Ren Reads (and More) | Color Me Impressed

You ever wonder what color you are? Or what feelings are associated with certain colors? Great, me too.

I have always been fascinated by the feelings associated with certain colors and what messages they can send. I want to go over several colors and delve into what they communicate. We are also going to touch on how our thought and colors intertwine.

Let us first discuss some common color associations. The data gathered for this segment is compiled of my personal opinions, the opinions of people I know, and good ol' Google.

Common Color Associations

Red: passion, including love and anger
Yellow: joy, but also danger
Orange: warmth and kindness
Green: growth and nature
Blue: peace and reason
Purple: nobility and glamour, but also mystery
Pink: softness and fun

Pretty cool, right? Do you agree with these colors’ related feelings? What do you associate with these colors? In general, it seems that warm colors ten to be associated with more intense feelings, while cool toned colors tend to reflect more calm, subdued emotions.

We now move on to color and thought. Do your thoughts have color? I know it may seem like a weird question, but consider it from a different angle: how important is color to our thoughts?

I would say that color is directly related to our thoughts and it plays a huge role in our ways of thinking. When you think of an event you attended or any kind of day you had, how often is color involved? When I think of the weather yesterday, I think about it being a nice day, with the pretty blue sky and bright yellow sun. Or when I think of a cool outfit I saw in the store, of course I am remembering the color. Color plays a large part in how we describe and remember people, from their eyes and hair to what they were wearing when you saw them.

Let us go even deeper into color and thought. Some people, including myself, associate color when organizing things like notes and educational subjects. For example, the math class gets the red binder, the English class gets the blue binder and the science class gets the green one. Organization and color tend to go more hand in hand than one might think. Recall how you organize your thoughts and actions and see how often you use color as an aid; you might be surprised.

Colors and their associations have always been interesting to me, so I really hope you found some of this a bit cool or educational. This brings us to the final question: what color are you? Basically, what color is associated with your personality? Now you can go off of personal opinions and what you associate colors with. Or, if you are really serious about it, you can complete an endless amount of super legit and super accurate online quizzes. According to some random, popular quiz I took online, my color is orange — friendly and perceptive. Orange is not my favorite color by any means, but it is the awareness color for Leukemia, so I find this result quite fitting.

So, what color are you?
