Takes on College Football: Against the Spread, Week One

collegeLet's be clear: we are not experts. If you go by these, you're bound to lose a lot of money. But who knows? Each week, a few writers at The Alabama Take give their best guess at the best bets with the lowest stress. It's our college football picks of the week!   2018 ATS Record Blaine Duncan: 0-0 (Week Zero: 0-0) T.D. Wood: 0-0 (Week Zero: 0-0) Blaine Duncan Week Zero is a joke, really, so there was no point for us to make or discuss any picks from last week. This weekend is the real start. Week One, here we come! Oregon State (+39.5) at Ohio State: OSU is reeling. No Urban Meyer on the sideline will make a 40-point victory over a Power Five opponent harder than usual. Granted, the Beavers aren't destined for greatness this season and will certainly lose, but not by this much. Ole Miss at Texas Tech (OVER: 66.5): I'm hard pressed to pick a straight victor with this one, but I do have faith on it being a close game and needing a lot of points to decide the ending. Plus, it's always fun to bet on the over in order to scream for everyone to score. T.D. Wood A lot of good football to watch on our first full weekend, and a few "stay-aways" on the slate as well. Dear Louisiana, please hurry up and legalize sports betting and take my money already. Michigan (-1) at Notre Dame: As much as I'd hate to see Jim Harbaugh and Wolverine fans happy, I think the visitors take this one. Michigan's got a stout D, and may actually have a quarterback that can run some that resembles an offense for the Maize and Blue. Miami (-3.5) vs. LSU: It'd be very Mark Richt of Mark Richt to lose this game. But, the Canes are very talented and LSU is, well, how does one put this? Coach O. I like Miami to take this neutral-site opener (Jerryworld in Dallas) in impressive fashion, starting the "oh shit the U is BACK!" takes until they lose to, oh, let's say Georgia Tech late in the season. Virginia Tech (+7) at Florida State: Willie Taggart might be the guy for the Seminoles, but this game reeks of a classic Virginia Tech upset. Sign me up for like 3 blocked kicks and a back-breaking 77-yard touchdown run from the third string back. Note: All games are Against the Spread. Odds are taken from the Westgate Las Vegas Superbook.
