As those closest to me know, I curate a horror movie watchlist every October to get me in my right mind. So much of the year sees me in swampy conditions, dwindling down to the twigs of my bones, mouth-breathing, hunched and probably smelly. But for whatever reason (call it the cool air, call it the better color scheme, call it the chance to rediscover my sinister callings), October always brings me back to a certain fullness (and a better odor) and that starts with doing one of my favorite activities: list-making.
For this year's binge, I decided on a catalogue of cool weapons (iconic, brutal, and um, innovative!). For your ultra-violent viewing pleasure, I give you: Wicked Weapons.
Notable mentions include: machete (Friday the 13th - iconic, but I used up Friday the 13th on pt. 7 and the, uh, tree...iykyk), fire extinguisher (Irreversible...woof), snakes (Snakes on a Plane...iconic), spiked bat (The Walking Dead...I'll never forget seeing that episode the first time and the chokehold it had on my millennial brethren), tire iron (Sorority Row...on second thought, I'm putting this in "Home Depot"), hacksaw (Terrifier...there's never too much blood, right?).
I found it difficult to decide what qualifies as a weapon versus the interesting ways people die in horror movies. If that had been a factor, I'd have to select the whole Final Destination franchise (especially the tanning bed). Also, what is horror even? Maybe that's an essay for another time.
And don't come for me re: No Country for Old Men, I'm calling that spiritual horror.
Happy watching, ya freaks!
