The Eagles just dominated the Chiefs, Bama hoops is headed for a monumental showdown, the NBA went wacky at the trade deadline, and more.

[00:00:00] I will better take projection Welcome everybody to Takin On Sports, I am TD, that is Greg. Greg, how you doing man? I'm alright, how are you? I'm doing alright, finally got some sleep after working some events for the Super Bowl this weekend down in New Orleans Back home and a little rest of it
[00:00:28] It was alright, you know, it was kind of like off by the convention center, just doing like I worked at Sports Illustrated Party and Shaq's little thing Alright, so it was nice, you know, saw a couple celebs and stuff, gave Roman Harper a roll tide, you know Alright, all fun stuff That's pretty cool
[00:00:51] Got some props from Flavor Flav's driver, I don't know who he was giving them to but he asked for my name on the phone and, you know, was giving me props to somebody so hopefully somebody Important Who wants to pay me some money Yeah, hopefully some money Alright But it was a trip That's fine Event production is always a weird wild adventure, but yeah, so We'll leave there Speaking of Super Bowl
[00:01:21] We were wondering if the Chiefs could get the three-peat done If it would be a close game like the last time these two played And nah, Philly just said Fuck that They say we're tired of hearing about y'all And man, they just came out the gate and whooped the ass Absolute ass whooping I didn't, I was actually driving back during the game Yeah, you didn't miss a damn thing So yeah, that's what I tell you You know, I had a phone call from a couple buddies You know, keep me updated
[00:01:50] And, you know, I watched highlights and all that, obviously But yeah, it seemed like just That's kind of And the score wasn't even I mean, really I mean, they scored their points on the backups I mean, they're pulling some folks You know, they're Hardly celebrating when the Chiefs scored at the end I mean, the score didn't even indicative Of how bad it really was Like No, no, yeah Total garbage time touchdowns You know, made the score look a little better Than, you know, made Pat Mahomes' stats look a little more normal
[00:02:19] But that is the one thing that stood out to me Ass whooping And like And really, I mean It's not even so much What did the What did the Chiefs do Is what did the Eagles do I mean, the Eagles just You know Most impressive thing about it is According to the stats They had no They had no official blitzes in the entire game They blitzed none But yeah, a guy like With six coverage sacks And They were That line That line was vicious
[00:02:48] The secondary was tenacious And they Pat had happy feet He did a That was the worst I've seen Pat look Man, I don't know In any club situation I don't know Since a rookie year Probably Well, I mean They did look bad in that Super Bowl Against the Bucks But that was more He had his left tackle gone But man Left tackle And then He was fighting an injury During that game too Wasn't he? Yeah, I think so Or something like that Yeah
[00:03:16] But man This was completely different Just a dominant Complete domination It was impressive I mean Any questions about Jalen? Throw it out the window Man, Jalen showed out Got his MVP Absolutely I was gonna say On the other side of the ball I think The surprising thing Was that It wasn't You know A big Saquon game Which everyone thought That that's what Philly would have to do To win And they actually Shut him down Yeah, I mean He had what
[00:03:46] Like 25 carries For like For 52 yards Yeah That's good for Philly Not giving up on the run I mean They stuck to their game plan Mm-hmm I mean And it helps You know Jalen added what Like 72 yards himself A couple big scrambles Big design runs But yeah He did it with his arm He And happy for him, man Couldn't be happier Couldn't be a nicer kid I mean We all know the story by now You know Yeah, being benched
[00:04:15] For two in the title game You know Coming off the bench To win the SEC title The next year But then transferring To Oklahoma Learned under Lincoln Riley You know Quarterback whisperer Yeah And it really helped him out And you know Despite all that You know Still a lot of doubters That he could be A quarterback Of a Super Bowl winning team That Exactly I mean This is a man Remember when he got drafted A lot of Philly fans Were pissed They thought they already Had their quarterback Why would we take Jalen
[00:04:45] In the second round Obviously they knew What they were doing I was about to say Yeah That turned out To be the best decision That front office Has made in a while Because Carson Wentz Turned out to Not really be that dude After he came back From that injury He was never the same Really No Yeah You know Sad for him But We're celebrating Jalen right now Man Again Did it with his arm Just you know One mistake On one interception But other than that From what I saw Highlights That's a beautiful game
[00:05:15] Yeah Looked great That throw to Devontae That really The nail in the coffin That was a Beauty Just absolute beauty Good to see Devontae Get a Tuddy In the Superbowl As well Now we can Now we can Stop in that Dumb stat Of no Alabama Player has ever Scored into The Superbowl Oh yeah Which you know For anybody Who wonders that You know So the NFL Is weird With their record Keeping So They don't
[00:05:45] You only get Credit for a Touchdown Yeah If you actually Are the one To score the Touchdown So touchdown Passes Don't count And then as far As well Didn't Jalen Get a touchdown A couple years ago He did But Since he Got drafted Out of Oklahoma The NFL Through their stats Considers him An Oklahoma player So yeah Which is weird Because I saw Another stat That says Alabama Players Have the most Is it the most Superbowl wins Now
[00:06:14] Of any college Or something Now they count it But they count Jalen In that Yeah they count Jalen Yeah but Who knows Which we do I mean he counts Himself He went back Got his degree From Alabama He's an alum You know He still says We're all tied Despite everything You can be both It's okay It's a weird Argument online Every time I see it And particularly Because it's It's not even Oklahoma fans That are like No you can't Claim it It's like Auburn fans That are like It's Auburn And LSU
[00:06:44] Fans And SEC Trolls More than anything Yeah Which Alright Whatever guys But yeah Great for Jalen Happy for Smitty Man You know Of course He's a Louisiana Kid You know His last high School game Ended with a loss At that very site There in the Superdome And now to come back A few years later Win a Superbowl Man In your own city That's awesome Yeah In your own state Man Doesn't get bigger Than that Uh-uh Absolutely great
[00:07:14] Happy for him A couple You know Landon Dickerson A couple Alabama guys On that team As well Um Yeah So yeah I think Definitely Everyone was surprised By the The blowout nature Of it Particularly That it came From the rules But Now it makes you Wonder I mean You know When things Like that Happen You know Y'all Now you start Wondering Is that gonna Be the end Of the Chief's dynasty Now that Someone's cracked Their code I mean Now does I mean Do they not I mean They just don't Seem as Invincible Anymore Not that
[00:07:44] They won't Be back But I'm Just saying I don't Think anybody's Gonna be As You know Fearful And I think That's what It does More than Anything It just Cracks That aura You know It kind Of They All year Especially This season With all Those wacky Wins They had You know With You know Starting The very The Ravens Would have At least Tied that Game If not Won it You know The block Kicks
[00:08:14] The You know The pass Interference Against Cincy Just all Kinds of Stuff Casey Just Pulling out And They had That feeling Of just Inevitability Of people Just kind Of like Well You know Casey's Gonna win Because It's what They do And a Win like This Cracks That You know And it Gives Everybody Like All right Hey We can Beat Them And Like you Said They're Going To be Back You know They're Going To be Motivated Next Year They're Going To Improve Their Roster Where They Can Get Healthy Where They Can You know There's Always Tough So
[00:08:44] Yeah It's Always Tough Yeah It's Toughest Thing To do Is Defend A title Yeah I mean Never had A hell Of a Run But Man The Thing Too Now You Look At Philly I Mean A Lot That's A See Now Yeah They're Going To Be Back Yeah They Have A System Of How They Drafted And You Know The Type Of Free Agents They Bring
[00:09:14] In And Man They've Done A Great Job I Mean They're A Well Run Franchise Right Now Yeah And Kind Of Antithesis To The Way The League's Going You Know Pass Happy Offenses And They Kind Of You Know That Tough Guy Hey We're Still Going To Run The Ball We're Going To Be Hard Nosed I Mean Even When It Worked I Mean Even When It Wasn't Working In The Super Bowl They
[00:10:02] Yeah Yeah Yeah Absolutely I Think We'll Just See Who They Will Place Yeah Kellen Moore Of Of Got The Job As Saints Head Coach So He He Stays In New Orleans You Know Hopefully Never And Then Have To Leave It Yeah I Mean It Should Be A Job That Anybody Would Want To Come In And Take I Would Think I Mean With All That Talent There Yeah Yeah That's Plenty Of Talent Quarter You Know Maybe You
[00:10:32] Don't You You Know That's I It's A Tough Position But There Salary Cap Limitations Do Yeah But
[00:11:02] Who's The Quarterback I Mean You Go Derek Carr I Mean Do You Go With Spencer Rattler Down There Do You Get A Trade Somewhere Or Do You Go In The Draft And Try To Develop Someone I Don't Know Where Don't Know Exactly Where They're Picking I Don't Think They're In For Cam Guys Later In The Second Round But
[00:11:32] Yeah I Think One Thing As I Watched Highlights And Read About The Game And All That I Know Ravens Fans The Ravens Organization Just Kicking Themselves Right Now Seeing What Philly Did To KC Baltimore Could Have Done The Same Thing Oh Absolutely Very Similarly Constructed Rosters There And I Think That Would Have Made For A Great Game I Don't Know The Way Those Eagles Play I Don't Know If
[00:12:13] Does Philly Try To You Know Maybe How Many Can They Win How Can They Can They Get Back You Know Obviously The East Is You Know They're In A Friendly Division Although It Looks Like Washington Is Ready Already To Come In Who Knows About The Division Yeah The Giants We Know They're In A Rebuilding Mode And Your Cowboys Who Knows Who Knows But The
[00:12:45] Maybe The AFC Might Be More Top Heavy With Chiefs Bills Ravens You Could Probably If The Bengals Could Get Their Defense Together You Throw Them In There With How Good That Offense Is I Think That's A Very Interesting Offseason Plot To Watch If T Higgins Stays Around Or If They Yeah But The Eagles Yeah There's No I Mean It Just Might Be Deeper In NFC There I Mean You
[00:13:15] Got We Mentioned Commanders And You Got Those North Teams Detroit Minnesota Green Bay Yeah LA You Know Playing Well Still Yeah You Would Have To Think They'll Make Some Moves And Bounce Back When They Got Their DC Back Robert Solid So That Should You Know The Defense Fell Off A Little Bit Without Him There So I I'm Sure They'll Bounce Back I Mean They
[00:13:44] They Were Bad This Year But I Would Have To Think That They'll Bounce Back Somewhere I'd Be Shocked If They're Anywhere Near As Bad As They Were This Past Year For Sure But Fun NFL Season There's Some Good Games The Return Of The Running Back As A Premier Position With Saquan And Derrick Henry How many years They Did Despite Everything You Know Yeah I Know Ravens Fans Got Some Good News When He Came Out This Week Said He'd Like To Retire Raven So
[00:14:15] Hopefully He's Got Some A Good Few Seasons Left In Still Right Yeah We Move On The Next Year You Know Or Now We Move On To The Off Season And Agency Yeah Free Agency And Leading Into The Draft And We'll See What Happens There What You Think Of The Halftime What Did You Think Of Kendrick's Performance I Loved It I Mean Yeah You Know There Was You Know A Bunch Of Symbolism You Know It
[00:14:57] That I Mean It Was A Lot To It There So I Mean I Thought It Was Excellent Halftime Show Yeah
[00:15:27] It It Hard Rap Is I Was Talking About This As People Rap Is One Of The Harder Genres To Translate To Live Especially A Televised Performance Like That Or It Always Comes Off Flat In Award Shows You Know It Is Made For Almost Perfectly Made For You
[00:15:57] Much Great Symbolism There Is A Lot Of People That Can Detail It Better Than Us Out There But It Been Beautifully Broken Down By A Lot Of Different People You Can Find Anywhere But A Lot To It It Was A Great Great Show You Know Definitely Lived Up To The To The Hyping In Some And It Be Interesting You Know To See Well You Know What They Do Going Forward With Halftime Shows
[00:16:27] You Know They Gonna Go More Of A Conventional Route Or You Know They Are Going Stay With The Rap Route Or You Know Yeah We'll See At The NFL I Know A Lot Of People You Know Especially There Should Have Been Wayne Show But The NFL Has Never Done The Localized Music Like That And As Much As You Know I'd Love It To Snoop Snoop In When It Was In L.A. Yeah That's True But It's Just Not Something They
[00:16:57] Focus On No It's Not And Really That Was The First Raps They've Ever Had As You Know The Main Event And Kendrick Was The New Orleans Hip Hop Show
[00:17:26] It Would Have Been Fantastic A Lot Of People Would Have Loved It At The Same Time I Would Say Just The Climate They Were In It Was A Perfect Show Cause He Said A Lot Much More Meaning Much More Meaning As Much As I Mean Song
[00:17:56] Wise We Would Have Loved It Would Have Had Much Meaning Probably Not So You Know When They Go To A Place Like Indian Apples But Yeah I Can't Think A Musician From Around There Or Yeah
[00:18:27] Yeah What Do You Do Yeah Occasionally If They Want To Do It Sure But You Know This Like You Said This Was The Perfect Show Kendrick's You Know Been The Hottest Star In Music For A While Now Particularly This Year And I Think That's More What The Shows The Halftime Shows Really Always Been About It's Capturing That Hot Yeah Especially Recently They Got Away Because They Got Away From The Old I Mean For A While It
[00:19:17] Actually Get Yeah But You Know You Really Think About It The Only One That Really Made An Impact Was Prince's Yeah Halftime Show As far As Yeah Cause I Think Yeah Cause Prince Definitely Translates Beyond Different Eras I
[00:19:47] Too So He Is Definitely And On top Of That It Rain Too So I Mean That Was Perfect Oh Yeah The Perfect Yeah That Was Absolutely Perfect Show Still To Me Probably The Best Halftime Show Ever I Think That's Hard To Beat That One But At Same Time Yeah It's Going Back To Kendrick I Liked It I Liked That He Kept It Basically Himself You Know A Little Cameo From SZA There Yeah But You Know It Wasn't Just A Big Cameo Fest Which Sometimes That Can
[00:20:39] Fantastic And Like And Like We Said If You Guys Haven't Read Up There's Plenty Of People Out There Spelled It Out A Lot Of Symbolism And Oh What The Show Meant Particularly For For Black America But Like You Said Just In This Climate In General It
[00:21:10] Usually Done And You Know We'll Get Our Little UFL Tees Here In The Spring See If Birmingham Can Win The Fourth Straight Or You Know And Then We'll Get To Draft Time But Now It's It's Basketball Time And They Certainly Tried To Steal The Show Last Week With The Trade Deadline Of Course We Talked About Luka The Luka Trade And The De' Aaron Fox I Think
[00:21:40] Golden State Warrior I Got That Game On The TV Right Now Actually So That Be Interesting Piece For The Warriors You Know Especially If They Get Full Playoff Jimmy That Could Be Interesting Piece Other Notable Deals You Got Brandon Ingram Finally Out Of
[00:22:10] Pacers Pick I Think Next Draft So You Know They Already Gave A Three Year Extension Yeah They Did Three For 120 Is That It 121 Or Something Like That So He Got His Extension Out There DeAndre Hunter Goes To The Cavaliers That Interesting Piece For Them Kyle Kuzma Goes To The Bucks For Chris Middleton On The Way Out Yeah I I'm Not Sure About That I Don't Know
[00:22:40] How Much That Really Does For The Bucks There But It Seemed Like They Really You Know I Don't Know Chris Middleton Kind of Just Symbolized The Bucks I Don't Know Seemed Kind Of There
[00:23:10] But We'll See If It Does Anything For But Honestly To Me The Bucks Just Have Not Been The Same Ever Since They Brought In Doc Rivers As The Coach But That's Just Me No Yeah Something's Missing There And I Get This Trade It Was Pretty Much An Attempt At Just Trying To Get Some Spark Fresh You Know Fresh Eyes Yeah The Lakers Made A Move For Their Big Man Mark Roy On From Charlotte And Then Nixed It So He
[00:23:40] Failed A Physical So Now They're Kind Of But Everybody Is In A Tough Situation I Could I Guess Don Could To Connect Dude Is Back In LA And Wondering Doesn't Want To Really Be There I It's Kind Of Weird You Got Traded But Now You're Back And The Team Didn't Trade You And Then You Know William Doesn't Want To
[00:24:15] Traded So You're A Little Bit You Know And No One's Going To Get Mad At You If You're Kind Of Like Well Man Shit Y'all Tried To Trade Me Why Do I Want To Come Back Now Right Um Some Players Just The Business But Yeah Depending On The Type Of Player But Man Yeah The
[00:24:45] A Lot Of Minutes There So We'll See One Of The Bigger Ones Speaking Of Buyouts The guy Bruce Brown Jr. Pell's Gotten That Return For Ingram He's A Buyout Candidate There's Been A Lot Of Rumor He Could Reunite There In Denver He Was A Big Part Of That Title Winning Team That Could Be Big
[00:25:17] One Thing I Not To Not To Rub Salt In Your Room But I'm Sure You Not It It Seemed Like Everybody Got A Better Hall Than The Mavericks Did Man I Swear Everybody Got Three Four Things No Matter What Yeah A Couple Not Just They Either Got Expiring Contracts That First Rounders Or
[00:25:46] Multiple Second Rounders So Yeah Just In More And More In hindsight That Draft Looks Yeah Yeah And Nico And Rob I Guess Are Best Friends I He's Out Indefinitely
[00:26:16] Now Two Two Or Three Weeks Draft Is Out Two He Hurt His Knee Sprained Knee Out Two Weeks Um How's Out Yeah And Lively He's Been Out Like We Don't Have A Big Man At All Yeah And Yet As We Sit Here Tonight Up 11 In The Second In Golden State So It's A Weird It's A Weird League Sometimes Man But I Will Say Christie Since Coming In He's Put On Some Good Performances
[00:26:47] Still A Young Guy A Lot Of Energy So I Mean So Far I Liked What He's Done Um The Other Thing Talking About The Whole Trade I Mean Anytime The Other Night They Were Kicking People Out The Arena For Sam Fire Nico And They Took Signs Away From People So It's Still Pretty Hostile For Nico In Dallas I Guess He Had Get Armed Guards Or Something For His House I Would I Mean I Definitely I
[00:27:38] Yeah That Probably The Least Popular Man In Dallas Right Now Congratulations You Made Jerry Seem Like A Saint Right Now I Know Right Who Thought That Was Gonna Come Him And Brian Schottenheimer So Thankful For That Trade Right Now Oh Absolutely Well Yeah Let's And As Far As Other NBA Stuff Goes Right Now Of Course It's All Star Week And Coming Up This Weekend
[00:28:09] So You Know They'll Try That Is It The New Whatever They're Doing The Four Teams This Year So Yeah That's We'll See How That Goes Of Course All The Talk You Know The The The The Stars Don't Contest Anymore So That's No Fun Yeah One Interesting Thing I Saw Yeah One Everybody's Got To Write An Article
[00:28:39] These Days About Ideas To Save The All-Star Game Or Whatever Look It's It's No Matter What Gimmick You Use It's Up to The Players If The Players Want To Play Hard That's What Makes It You Know More Fun And If They Don't Then We're Going To Get What We Get But One Interesting Idea I saw Was More Like Teams Like A Three On Three Tournament Or Even One On One One One One One One One That That's Intriguing To Me That Could Be
[00:29:09] Right That Could Be The Counter Argue I saw In The
[00:29:42] It's More There Are People People Man People Get So Nostalgic But I'm Like Man The All-Star Game Has Been This Way For A Long Time Even When Y'all Were So Hyped About The Nineties I Mean It Was Still 140 To 130 Like It Was Maybe In The Fourth Quarter Some But Overall The All-Star Game Has Not Changed At All People Just Forget And Think Everything Was So Great Because They Were Kids But
[00:30:12] Let's Stop Like The All-Star Game Is All-Star Game Like If It's That Competitive Spirit To Michael Jordan The Dude Is One Of One Mike Is A Competitor Like No Other
[00:30:43] Anybody Who Watched The Last Dance You Know That His Little Quarter Game As Serious As He Took Everything But Then At The Same Time To Sometimes You Look At Stuff And Maybe Today's Player Is Smarter At The Same Time Because They Realize They Don't Have To Go 110 In A Meaning Let's All-Star Game Honestly People Take care Of Themselves Better Now Yeah I Mean I Get It But At The Same Time It's Like It's An All-Star Game Just Enjoy It And If It's That Bad To
[00:31:13] You There's A Thousand Other Things You Can Watch On A Sunday Night Find Find Something On Streaming Man Stream Start a New Show Watch A Movie Read A Book Plenty Of Stuff You Could Do I Mean And The Dunk Contest Is A Dunk Contest I Enjoy It Because I Want To See Somebody You Know I Mean You You Made A Good Point Last Year About It Is That Yeah It Be Nice To Have The Big Names And All That But At The Same Time When You Get These You Max McClone Guys Or Whatever
[00:31:43] Yeah They're These Guys That Don't Have A Name They're Going To Try To Make A Name For Them So They're Going To Some Crazy Stuff So Max Has Been Pretty entertaining The Last Couple Years I Don't Think It's Near As Bad As People Make It Out To Be Because At The End Of The Day You Gotta Think About People Were Super Excited From Jordan Doing That Dunk When We Were Little That That's Like A Walk In The Days Yeah
[00:32:13] Or A Guy Like Dominique Wilkins Great Dunker One Of The Best Ever But You Go Back And Watch His Stuff It's It's Not That Complicated It's Just He Was So Forceful And Smooth And Ferocious With It Yeah That's What Made It
[00:32:47] Out You Only Dunk Over So Many Different People You Can Only You Know Yeah Basically If You're Not Doing Like A Almost Impossible Like A 720 I Mean No One Really Good You Know It's Like Nobody Is Impressed By Anything These Days So That Yeah That's The Other Thing Too Yeah Nobody Yeah Like You Said You You're About Say No Everyone Would Rather Complain Right Yeah Yeah
[00:33:17] I Was Cool People Think It's Much Yeah Um Everybody Rather Complain But What It Is Yeah So Like We Said All Star Game And Then We Hit That Final Stretch Until The That's When The Playoffs Come Yeah So Start Heating Up Right Now But I Think Right Now College Is Kind Of Taking The Driver's See
[00:33:46] As Far As Basketball Right Now The Itself Absolutely Every Night Wild Crazy And Just An Absolute Huge One Coming Up This Weekend Number One Auburn Number Two Alabama Who's Also Number One In The Coaches Poll One Versus One One Versus Two Either Way You
[00:34:48] Coliseum, Tuscaloosa, game day will be there. Yeah, it's going to be a loud, loud arena. And if Alabama needs to rein in those turnovers because that's definitely what will hurt them against Auburn. Yeah, that's our one thing is we like to get sloppy sometimes. Yeah. But, man, everything was going right last night. The three ball was falling. But the one thing we do well is that outside of the Ole Miss game
[00:35:18] is this team hustles. They get after it. They get after the loose balls. I mean, Mo Diabate is just a beast at everything he does. But, you know, kudos to this team. I mean, you know, last weekend, winning the Fayetteville against a hot Arkansas team would just beat Kentucky or just beat Texas. So, who knew?
[00:35:47] I mean, you know, we've had our struggles on the road in past seasons. But this, man, they're holding their own. I mean, Arkansas did hit that comeback, made it a little closer probably than what it should be. But winning in the SEC this year is a tough spot. You know, Fayetteville is always tough when they're – and their crowd was getting into it as they got closer. So, for us to close it out, excellent. And then last night there really was no question. I mean, it was over pretty much before halftime. Yeah, Texas is playing hard.
[00:36:17] You know, they've had a couple losses in a row. So, they came out on fire. And, you know, they were hustling, getting a lot of offensive rebounds, second and third chances. Yeah, they're a freshman. Boy, he's talented. Oh, wow. He dropped. Well, the only dude that was making shots with them last night was – He had like 30 hit at halftime. It seemed like he was killing us. But, yeah, it was – If Alabama – If the Tide shoots like that again
[00:36:45] and it just tones down those turnovers a little bit, they can definitely win Saturday, especially with the home game. We said it time and time again, but the thing that always sticks out to me for this Alabama team is the depth. You know, it doesn't matter if, you know, somebody's having an off night because somebody else is going to be on. Yeah. And, really, the three-point shooting early, like you said, the two negatives of this team, the turnovers, their problem.
[00:37:14] And then three-point shooting hasn't been what it's been in the past few seasons. But it is getting better since the start of SEC play. Yeah. I think we're up like – I think they said – I thought I heard last night in the non-conference, we were shooting like 31%. I think we're up to like 38% or 39%. That's a big difference with the amount of shots that we take. Yeah, absolutely. And, you know, guys like Youngblood, he's really come in with a spark in that. Aiden Holloway is really –
[00:37:45] Aiden Holloway might be the skill of all time. I'm interested to see how he plays Saturday because, you know, he's going to have some feelings about it. We'll say that. Hopefully he doesn't get too emotional. That's the main thing. Right, yeah. He's going to over – You don't want to overplay it. But, yeah, you definitely know he's going to come in trying to do something because he's – But, I mean, just an excellent pickup. I mean, obviously it may not have fit what Auburn was trying to do,
[00:38:14] but he fits beautifully what we do in Tuscaloosa. You know, he fits in well with Sears. It just fits our – It fits what Coach Oates does, I mean, perfectly. So, I mean, just an excellent pickup there. And the other thing, too, is, you know, just the one thing that both Auburn and Alabama benefited well from is just the NIL, you know,
[00:38:42] being able to keep guys in college longer. I mean, definitely has benefited both teams quite well. Yeah, absolutely. Keeping – Being able to keep Sears and Stevenson and Nelson on the team. And then on their side, they're big men. Yeah, Brom. Obviously, he wouldn't – All those guys would have had to go in the past. I mean, there's no way they would have stayed in college this long. Yeah, and even looking ahead, you look at a guy like LeBron Phylon,
[00:39:11] absolutely an NBA prospect. But, you know, is there something that keeps him around next year? You know, obviously, depending on what we do, if, you know – Right. You know, like a freshman, he's kind of had up and down here. He got, you know, what, about 15, 16 yesterday? Yeah. He's come back on. Good game off the bench. He's the guy that comes off the bench and just provides such a spark when he's on. Yeah, I know. Yeah, like we said, it's the depth, and Saturday's game is going to be wild and should be a great, great time.
[00:39:42] Yeah. But, yeah, let's see. Elsewhere around the country, Kentucky sweeps Tennessee. That's impressive. Bita and Naval is kind of starting to string together some bad results here, so you wonder if maybe they were a little over – maybe not even overrated, maybe overranked when they got up to number one. But, you know, they're still a very talented team. So they're –
[00:40:09] Yeah, their main thing, though, is when they can't shoot very bad. Yeah, yeah. If they go cold, it's, you know, kind of reminiscent of some past Alabama teams in the past few years. Like if the shot isn't falling, then it really locks up the team. That's something that we've gotten away from this year is we still shoot a lot of threes, but we're not – I mean – But we are, I think –
[00:40:36] We've opened up a lot and have a lot of different options. You know, in the past, if Sears was off or if Nelson wasn't having a good day, we were cooked last year. This year, you know, just the depth. So, yeah, Tennessee is a great team. It's just that they just don't have the shooters that they did. I mean, obviously, Dalton Connect was definitely a big difference last year. I mean, that man was money. They're missing that. I guarantee Bucket this year. Yeah.
[00:41:06] But still, you know, they're still in the race for one seed. Absolutely. Definitely two seed. Florida's in that. Florida's coming on strong, man. I mean – Three team in the country, right? I mean, very impressive that they were able to go in to Auburn and get that win last week. And I'm kind of surprised in there because the jungle, whatever they call it, it's a tough spot to go in, especially with how good they've been and the way they sell out that arena.
[00:41:33] I mean, they had kids camping out all week, you know. That's the funny thing. The SEC's kind of turned into the – you know, doing a lot of the Duke stuff now. Kids having to camp out all week to get student tickets and stuff. I mean, it's amazing. I mean, kudos, you know, the SEC in general. Since then, Mike Slive's time and, you know, he was the one who kind of started pushing for basketball to get bigger and it's really, you know, taken off with the current commissioner
[00:42:01] just with how much they put into basketball, you know, great coaches and kind of taking over, at least for this year, you know. Yeah. The SEC is way down. Big 12 is still decent, but, yeah, I mean, the SEC is just on a different level right now. Yeah, absolutely. It's just ridiculous. They're, you know, depending on which bracketology read and what, there's a possibility the SEC could get in upwards of 14 teams, which would break the record.
[00:42:30] The Big East held it for 11 back in 2011. They could have three number one seed. Do you imagine they won't be able to get four, but two, I mean, two number one seeds is crazy. Two would be amazing. Yeah. Two would be amazing. Three would be absolutely ridiculous, but very possible. So, depending on how bad it's going.
[00:42:55] So, just been a great ride for that other elsewhere around the country. This week in particular, a couple upsets. Villanova got St. John's. St. John's team that's playing really well. Really well. Patino's got them going. And then Indiana upset Michigan State. Yeah. That's funny. On the day that Izzo was trying to break Bobby Knight's all-time Big Ten winning
[00:43:24] record and, of course, Indiana. So, not against us. So, that was funny. Because that's a team that definitely has struggled much more. You're going to have to wonder, you know, how long they're going to stick with Mike Wilson as their coach. Because, you know, they've had some struggles. Yeah. It's just not looking great there. For him. He's. Oh, wait. They announced Friday he's stepping down after the season.
[00:43:54] Really? Yeah. So, there you go. So, they will already be looking for the next IU coach to bring them back to glory. That's been a minute since they were consistently top team in the country. But, you know, honestly, if you look at it, maybe they shouldn't have got rid of Tom Cream. Because, I mean, he consistently had them in the tournament. Yeah.
[00:44:22] It's very similar to kind of Nebraska with, what's his name? Frank Solich back in the day. And Pelini. Yeah. Good, but no butt. But, yeah. That's what I'm thinking of. Yeah. Pelini would, you know, always. Good, but not great. You're getting there, but you're not winning enough. But then once it's gone, you're like, well, shit. Maybe. Yeah, exactly. Like, wait, what did we do? Did we do the right thing?
[00:44:50] I'm trying to find this article on ESPN. Where was it? It had, like, the best games every day left of the, there it is, of the college basketball calendar. Shit, our schedule itself almost seems like a game of best games. Brutal. By far the hardest remaining schedule in the country. I mean, Auburn twice. They still got Florida on the schedule. I had Tennessee. That last three games is brutal.
[00:45:18] The last three, it's Tennessee, Florida, Auburn, right? The last three for Alabama. Ridiculous. Tomorrow night, you got Maryland and Nebraska. Obviously, this weekend we know the Iron Bowl of basketball is a big one. You know, we go to Missouri next week, too. Yeah, like you said, Alabama is in particular. That's a much improved team.
[00:45:45] I mean, yeah, I think this is a Missouri team that did not win an SEC game last year. Yeah, and they are up 16 on Oklahoma at the moment. So, they are looking good. But, yeah, it's getting to be, you know, college, good, the fun time of college basketball. So, yeah. The SEC and that, you know, again, the Big 12, it's always fun to watch. That's what their competitiveness.
[00:46:13] You know, Kansas is down, but, and, you know, Texas Tech is a tough team. Iowa State's up and down, but they've been pretty tough throughout the year. Arizona's coming around. I mean, so. It's kind of similar to the way the football season played out. There's no elite team, but, man, it is a lot of good teams. A lot of fun. There they are. Yeah. A lot of great games.
[00:46:40] A good Royal Rumble for the conference title there. Of course, Houston and that mix as well. So, you know, that's a. Absolutely, yeah. Let's see. Elsewhere in the world of sports, I already mentioned the Saints hiring Kellen Moore. It looks like Ohio State has found their new defensive coordinator. They're going to bring in Matt Patricia. So, that is interesting. He'll, of course, replace, was it Jim Knowles who left for Penn State?
[00:47:09] Which is still so weird to me. Like. It does. Mia, it makes you think. I think there was reading some stuff, maybe some tension between him and Ryan Day as to how they wanted the defense to go. You would think everything was beautiful. I mean, as good as the defense was, you wouldn't think it would have been much tension there. But apparently there was some. And, of course, he's from Philly.
[00:47:37] So, Pennsylvania got Hart. I do not know if they've. I don't think they've replaced Chip Kelly yet on the offensive side of the ball. I don't think they have. So, that would be interesting. I think they. Wait, I'm trying to think. I thought they brought in somebody. That's what I'm looking. And I do know a former Buckeyes coach, Jim Trestle, is now the lieutenant governor of the state of Ohio. Hmm.
[00:48:06] So, that's. Yeah. That's. Yeah. That's what I said. I was like, well. That's. Okay. That's interesting. Yeah. I don't think. Talking about. Talking about governors. You see. People were saying. Paul Feinbaum is going to run for the Alabama governor. That's a big rumor. Because he bought a big house. You know what? He'd be better than some of the other names out there. So, I don't know. I don't know if he would actually do it. But.
[00:48:36] I think he would get quite. I think he'd get quite the vote in Alabama. I think people would come out of low for Paul. Yeah. And it'd make the press conferences more interesting. Let's see. Other. Ohio. Oh, yeah. So, it will be. Brian. They've just bumped up to Brian Hartline. To the OC. So, I mean. Of course. He's recruited every wide receiver there. So, I mean. That's a.
[00:49:04] I guess the interesting thing will be whether he'll call plays. Or if it'll be. Or if Ryan Day will go back to call him plays. Yeah. One interesting thing I saw. Pat White. Of course. The great West Virginia quarterback. He's going back to West Virginia. To work under Rich Rod. He's going to be assistant's quarterback coach. So. That's good. Yeah. That's probably a good thing.
[00:49:33] Getting the band back together up there. Absolutely. Morgantown. Absolutely. Yeah. If. Yeah. Makes you long for those days of that. That Big East. That era of Big East football was wild, man. Yeah. Good times. Yeah. The Louisville teams. The West Virginia teams. Were good. I mean. Rutgers was great. I mean. We just had. Rutgers. They had that. That year where USF got up to number two in the country. Yeah.
[00:50:04] Yeah. It was always someone kind of sneaking up in there. You know. It was great. It was great. Entertainment. Cincinnati. I think had a big year there. Yeah. About a couple. Louisville was good. It was at 09. I think Cincinnati finished unbeaten. They did. It was. Brian Kelly was the coach. That's right. Yeah. That was a catalyst for him going to Notre Dame. That big season. Yeah. Because.
[00:50:34] They went to. I remember. Florida waxed him in the Sugar Bowl. After we had beat. Florida in the SEC Championship. Hmm. I do. Yeah. They got him to. Yeah. They got him to. That's when he went to Notre Dame. After that. But yeah. Let's see. That's where. That's all I have in my notes. What's. Anything else in the world of sports.
[00:51:03] You wanted to touch on. I don't know. I think we covered a lot of stuff. I don't know. We're just on a. Interesting time there. You know. Kind of the. Out of football. Into basketball. Completely for a little bit. And. It was a good time. I mean. Pretty soon we'll be. In the conference tournament. And say tournament. And of course. As we begin that second half of the. NBA season. You know. Everybody pushing. They get. In that top six.
[00:51:34] That's the key. That is going to be the key again. Yeah. Stay out. Stay out of that play. Out of 7-10. 7-10. You don't want. Well. Unless you're the 9 and the 10. And you have nothing to lose. But. You definitely don't want to be in that 7 or 8. Because you're. Let's see. A little bit of breaking news here. Baseball news. Alex Bregman. Signs of the Red Sox. So. I got. Three years. 120.
[00:52:04] I mean. That was it. Yeah. Three years. 120. Or two. Opt outs. There you go. Okay. But yeah. So. That is it. Like we said. It's you know. Off season time for football. It is. Heating up now. For college basketball. And the NBA. You keep your eye on the NHL. As we get closer to playoffs there.
[00:52:48] They used to. There it is. I'm about to say. They used to have a gold tracker on here. Wow. I'm not being a big NHL fan. So I really don't know this answer. But. Is there as much. Flack and pushback. When. Current guys. Pass up older guys. As far as. Well.
[00:53:17] They played in a different era. Is there. Near that. Is there as like the NBA. And the NFL. Still on a nightly basis anymore. Either. But in general. Hockey. The game of hockey. Hasn't changed too much. You know. They're definitely. You know. The NHL definitely made a lot of rules. Changes about. 15. 20 years ago. You know. The 90s were kind of a. Wow. It's fun. The Jersey Devils. Kind of. Figured out this defense.
[00:53:47] A trap defense. That really. And everybody. Of course. Copycatted it. And it really did slow down. Scoring in the league. So that's when. NHL made a lot of rules. And you do see. More high scoring games now. And of course. They added this weird shootout. At the end. And all that. Which I hate. No. That's just that. It's that weird American. Like we hate ties thing. It's like. You can have them in the regular season. Who cares. It's fine. But yeah. Alex Ovechkin is now. 15 goals away. From Wayne Gretzky. From time. Needs 16 to.
[00:54:17] Come the NHL all the time. Yeah. They never come pretty quickly. Yeah. And like he said. Like we said. It's. It's a crazy. Mark to beat. And then. Absolutely. Of course. I've mentioned it on here before. With the. The most. Impressive stat. And maybe all of sports to me. So. Wayne Gretzky. You know. In the NHL. You get a point. For a goal. And an assist. So. Wayne Gretzky is also the all time. Points leader. But he has. More assist.
[00:54:47] Than second place. In all time points. Yarmir Yager. So. Draw. It's. It shows you how good he was. Right. So that's a record. When you talk about. Unbreakable sports records. Wayne Gretzky's all time. Points record. It's not being beat. That's amazing. But. Yeah. No. In general. I don't think there's that kind of pushback. Because the game of hockey. Has kind of always been the same. Alex Ovechkin himself.
[00:55:16] Has been around for quite a long time. Oh wow. Yeah. Yeah. But yeah. If that is it. I think that is it. Yeah. I don't really see anything else. There wasn't any more. No. WNBA news. I don't think anything happened there. The. You know. Over there. Europe. The Champions League. Started their. Knockout round this week. Yeah. So they're. They're getting on with that.
[00:55:46] But yeah. Greg. What is done up real good for you. Since last time we talked. You know. I guess. Getting older. Turning 41. One. Been a little under the weather. But you know. Still made it through. So. Just appreciate getting older. Some days you wonder. But you know. You ache. But hey. I'm still. Still kicking it around. So. I guess. I'm happy for that. How about you? I'll say. You know. Just.
[00:56:14] I'll stay with the Alabama basketball man. It's. It's just so great. Oh man. It's amazing. To go from. Where we were. When we were students. And where the program was. To. What Nate Oates. Has done with this program. Cannot be understated. Man. It's just amazing. Yeah. Because. I mean. There was a time. We didn't know. What we were going to look like. Game to game. No. Yeah. And. We could look great. The next day. We might put up 48. You know. We've had those videos. It's like.
[00:56:43] This team could be great. And now Nate Oates. Not only wins. He goes on the road. And wins dominantly. He wins at home dominantly. That's what I was going to say. It used to be a foreign concept. For Alabama basketball. To win on the road. Oh. Absolutely. We could pretty much guarantee. That they weren't going to win. A tough game on the road. And now. And we would sometimes. We get blown out by bums on the road. Yeah. It was just this weird thing. It's particular under Mark Goffrey. It's just a weird thing. We'd go. We were like the Georges of the world. By like 20.
[00:57:13] Yeah. And we. And we had good teams. It's not like we were bums there. You know. We had. Rappinville used to be a house of whores for us. Anytime we went to Nashville. It was. Ugh. Memorial Coliseum. Yeah. It was like. Damn it. Why are we going here? Yeah. If it. And like you said. It wasn't always guaranteed. You think. Oh. Well. This team's. You know. One in 15 on the year. We'll be fine. Nah. Didn't matter. No. We'd find a way to lose on the road. But yeah. We got.
[00:57:43] I mean. You know. We've gone to Fayetteville. We went to Austin. Granted. Not the greatest teams. But the fact that we're winning those type of games. In convincing fashion. Is just. Amazing. You know. The fact we went to Lexington. And the one. No problem. I mean. We're just going to different spots. And we're just handling business. On the road. It's just awesome. I mean. And now. There's no. There's no. There's no game at the season. Where you're looking like. Man. We don't have a chance. Right now. I mean. Of course.
[00:58:12] We might lose a game or two. Which is. Without schedule. I mean. Yeah. No one. That's basketball. Yeah. However. At the same time. If we play how we play. We could beat anybody on that schedule. Yeah. Oh no. And now. You know. We go in Saturday. The biggest regular season game. In the program history. So. Man. Which is amazing. So. Yeah. Insane. Yeah. That does it for us folks. Thank you for listening.
[00:58:42] Thank you for your patience this week. We said Greg's birthday was Sunday. I was out of town working. Schedules didn't allow to record till tonight. But. Got it in. And. Oh. We'll be back. This Sunday I think. Barring any changes. Uh. But yeah. We'll. Now that football's done. We'll. Pay more attention to basketball in the year. And you know. Some off season stuff. Yeah. So. Hopefully for you guys. Maybe some shorter episodes.

It's hard to keep up man. Really is. But yeah. I know what new Marvel movie coming out this weekend. Uh. The new Captain America. Uh. You know. Some good trailers there at the Super Bowl. Looks like another Jurassic World coming out. I was like.
[01:00:12] How many are there going to be? They are just. They are just running that franchise on the ground. That's. Yeah. Look. I'm the world's biggest Jurassic Park fan. I loved that movie. Back in the day. But man. Right. It is one of those franchises where. Some of it's kind of cool. You know. You watch. Ah. Whatever. Like. But it's like the concepts are good. And the execution is terrible. Right. Uh. But yeah. Then. Uh. What was the other big trailer? Oh. Thunderbolts trailer. That was a big one from Sunday. Uh. But yeah.
