[00:00:00] I will better take projection.
[00:00:07] Welcome everybody to Takin On Sports, I am TD. That is Greg. Greg, how you doing, man?
[00:00:11] I'm pretty good. How are you doing?
[00:00:13] I'm alright myself, man. Kind of a quiet week, I guess, for college sports anyway, college football anyway.
[00:00:22] Well, depending how you look at it. I mean, Bill Belichick was kind of crazy.
[00:00:27] That's true. We'll get to that. There's some big news, at least, in the college game.
[00:00:37] But yeah, a tame week, as it were, at least.
[00:00:40] Yeah, as far as game. Not only what we're used to, it's our one game.
[00:00:46] As far as on-field action, definitely a little slow.
[00:00:50] Yeah, but sure, let's start there. We usually start with college football.
[00:00:56] We'll start there. Of course, the big news, I guess, this week, the biggest story of anything is Bill Belichick is now the coach at North Carolina.
[00:01:07] Who could have predicted that?
[00:01:09] Yeah, who knew?
[00:01:11] It's just kind of out of nowhere, like legit, just...
[00:01:16] Yeah.
[00:01:19] Yeah.
[00:01:20] What was your reaction? What was your initial reaction?
[00:01:25] I mean, first of all, you know, you're kind of shocked both ways in that, A, I mean, Bill's never been in college football.
[00:01:34] So, I mean, it's a different world.
[00:01:36] I mean, it's getting a little closer to the NFL with how transactions go these days, but still, it's a different world.
[00:01:41] So, it'll be interesting how that goes.
[00:01:44] On the Carolina side, it's kind of weird.
[00:01:46] I mean, I get it.
[00:01:47] I mean, it's a bit...
[00:01:48] I mean, they'll have all the...
[00:01:50] They'll have a lot of eyes on them there.
[00:01:52] I mean, if they ever wanted to turn it into, you know, from a mid-tier to at least have eyes on them like a big-time program,
[00:02:03] I mean, that's a way to do it, at least for a couple of seasons.
[00:02:06] I mean, overall, I think it's a weird match, but we'll see how it goes.
[00:02:11] Yeah, who knows?
[00:02:14] Certainly, obviously, you can't argue with the X's and O's of the man.
[00:02:18] You know, some guys will really benefit from learning from the greatest pro coach of all time.
[00:02:23] And, you know, UNC hopes that that translates to wins and maybe, you know, but yeah, there's a lot of questions.
[00:02:31] Like, how does he handle recruiting, especially at his age for a guy who's never done it?
[00:02:36] Or is, you know, is his name enough to do something?
[00:02:40] That's the thing.
[00:02:41] I don't know.
[00:02:42] I don't know for the kids.
[00:02:43] Yeah, exactly.
[00:02:44] Is he personable enough?
[00:02:46] Yeah.
[00:02:46] Right.
[00:02:47] Because, honestly, you know, a lot of these kids, these were going to be recruited and saw the end of his career in New England.
[00:02:52] And they weren't the best.
[00:02:54] You know, they didn't necessarily watch the football when they were running through the AFC and, you know, continuously in the Super Bowl.
[00:03:01] So, I mean, the history is there.
[00:03:04] But how much do kids care about history these days?
[00:03:06] Who knows?
[00:03:07] Yeah.
[00:03:08] And also, you know, Tom Brady gets a lot of that love, too, especially for the second half of it.
[00:03:17] But, you know, the first half, I would say definitely more Belichick in this game and the defensive players.
[00:03:24] Yeah.
[00:03:24] But, you know, Tom Brady, it opened up more and he became the focal point of that offense.
[00:03:30] Because, I mean, but it's a combination, though.
[00:03:35] You know, I think you give credit where both do.
[00:03:38] I mean, obviously, at the end, it looks more like it was Brady because of his run.
[00:03:43] But he landed in a very good spot in Tampa, to be honest.
[00:03:46] So, you know, it's hard to necessarily say, you know.
[00:03:50] But.
[00:03:52] Yeah, no, he is like a perfect spot for him, that perfect match.
[00:03:57] So, you know, it's definitely 50-50, I would say.
[00:04:01] But it'd be interesting just because it's so much you don't know how it's going to go.
[00:04:07] You know, as far as, you know, like you said, the recruiting, going, you know, the politics of college football.
[00:04:15] I mean, he didn't necessarily like the media and the NFL.
[00:04:19] And it's way more media stuff and obligations and meeting with boosters and going places and yakking it up with, you know, the football clubs.
[00:04:28] And, you know, different people that give you your money.
[00:04:31] So, we'll see how Bill does with all that, considering he's not, hasn't been known as much of a talker over the years.
[00:04:40] Yeah, exactly.
[00:04:41] It's, there's just so many things involved with the college game that seem.
[00:04:47] I don't think people think about necessarily.
[00:04:49] Exactly.
[00:04:50] And it seems so out of place for him to attempt.
[00:04:55] Yeah, who knows.
[00:04:56] If he puts the right people around him, too, I think, you know, he's definitely going to have to get some guys in there.
[00:05:02] That have some good college experience.
[00:05:08] You know, but I think he got to, you know, I think he did good with his GM bringing in Lombardi with him.
[00:05:15] Who has some, you know, NFL experience as GM.
[00:05:17] So, I think that's a good thing.
[00:05:19] But he'll definitely have to get some guys that are experiencing the college game.
[00:05:22] And, you know, we'll see where it goes from there.
[00:05:27] But, you know, very interesting hire.
[00:05:30] You know, for Carolina, definitely a, I guess, I guess for them a splashy hire.
[00:05:36] I mean, because at least it has all the headlines.
[00:05:38] Sounds like there was some dissension amongst the ranks as far as where they wanted to go with that.
[00:05:45] But, so.
[00:05:46] Yeah, and any.
[00:05:49] You know, a lot of it is understandable for the reasons that we've, you know, just covered.
[00:05:54] But at the same time, you know, who knows?
[00:05:57] Yeah, like UNC is not a place that has.
[00:05:59] You know, I'm sure everybody has, you know, national title aspirations.
[00:06:03] But they don't have those expectations.
[00:06:05] Right.
[00:06:05] There's not expectations.
[00:06:06] I mean, if they go 9-3, I mean, they're pretty, pretty, going to be pretty thrilled with that.
[00:06:11] Yeah, 9-3, threaten to make the ACC title game.
[00:06:15] Maybe threaten to make the playoff.
[00:06:17] Yeah, if he can get into the playoffs, that's a success.
[00:06:19] Oh, that'd be amazing.
[00:06:20] Yeah.
[00:06:21] I mean, considering I think they've only had, well, I was shocked they've only had one double digit win total in the last 20-some years.
[00:06:29] I was, I didn't realize it would have been that.
[00:06:31] Yeah, it seems like they've had more successful seasons than that.
[00:06:35] But, I guess not.
[00:06:37] But then the other thing, you look at it from the other end, I bet you Mack Brown is thinking, what the heck?
[00:06:41] Like, why didn't I put that much into my, you know, NIL or care when I was there?
[00:06:46] You know, kind of, you know, he was hot when he first got there.
[00:06:50] You know, got a lot of big names, quarterbacks and stuff.
[00:06:52] But then once NIL really opened up, they kind of fell off.
[00:06:56] So, he's probably a little frustrated.
[00:06:57] You know, they kind of didn't really go all in with him.
[00:07:02] But, you know, so, but it'd be interesting.
[00:07:06] Nonetheless, and we'll see what it does with recruiting.
[00:07:08] And, you know, just if he brings his son in and how that plays out, too.
[00:07:14] Because, you know, there was talk that they wanted to, that he wanted to make sure his son is the next coach and waiting.
[00:07:21] And that's kind of weird because he's never been a head coach.
[00:07:24] And we don't even know if he's a good, you know, a great coach or not.
[00:07:27] You know, he's an okay defensive coordinator, I guess, at Washington right now.
[00:07:31] And I guess he'll eventually come to Carolina.
[00:07:32] But if that's all true, that's kind of strange considering, you know, a lot of times court awaitings don't work or don't even work out or happen.
[00:07:43] Yeah, nepotism is always dangerous in that regard.
[00:07:46] And that's the part you had to be worried about if I were a Tar Heel fan.
[00:07:50] Or if that's even true.
[00:07:51] I mean, they were talking about it, but I don't know if it's true or not.
[00:07:54] Yeah, and I don't, you know, it'd be a big stretch.
[00:07:56] But we'll see.
[00:07:57] That's something for down the road for now.
[00:07:59] It's just to wait and see.
[00:08:00] And, you know, there's some time left in the recruiting cycle.
[00:08:05] Certainly transfer portal.
[00:08:07] I don't, you know, I don't have, I'm not familiar with Carolina's roster and what they might need.
[00:08:11] No, I can't.
[00:08:11] I can't.
[00:08:12] I'm an expert either.
[00:08:14] Can't say I'm an expert there.
[00:08:17] But, yeah, I think if they're going to, I think Bill's going to prove, I think he'll do it.
[00:08:24] A lot more damage in the transfer portal than he would necessarily in recruiting.
[00:08:29] I would think he would attack that more than recruiting.
[00:08:33] But we'll see.
[00:08:34] Yeah, it's seen, you know, good quick fixes and also something, you know, he can kind of scout players he's already seen as opposed to high school recruits.
[00:08:44] Right.
[00:08:44] But who knows?
[00:08:47] It was kind of a busy week for coaching, too.
[00:08:49] I guess we'll stay there real quick.
[00:08:50] The other, not as big news, but some other ones.
[00:08:53] Barry Odom leaves UNLV to take over Purdue.
[00:08:57] So a good hire for Purdue.
[00:08:59] You know, whether it works is who knows.
[00:09:01] You know, they really haven't been successful on the football field since, you know, Drew Brees.
[00:09:08] Consistently, yeah.
[00:09:09] Consistently, yeah.
[00:09:10] Yeah, Joe Tiller.
[00:09:11] When they had Joe Tiller, Drew Brees, I mean, they had a consistent little winning.
[00:09:15] I mean, they were in the Big Ten title game a couple years ago.
[00:09:19] Yeah, yeah.
[00:09:20] And they've had those spots here and there.
[00:09:22] You know, they had that big upset over Ohio State a few years back.
[00:09:26] They've had blips of success, but nothing sustainable.
[00:09:29] Yeah, nothing sustainable since that Joe Tiller era.
[00:09:31] Yeah, the basketball on grass, they called it, you know, which kind of at the time was a little revolutionary in the Big Ten.
[00:09:36] You know, they were the only ones really throwing it around.
[00:09:38] So.
[00:09:39] Exactly.
[00:09:41] But, yeah.
[00:09:41] That'd be interesting.
[00:09:42] And then.
[00:09:42] Yeah, good hire for the Boilermakers.
[00:09:44] Rich Rod back in West Virginia.
[00:09:47] Interesting.
[00:09:48] Yeah, crazy.
[00:09:51] Well, yeah, 17 years gone now since he left for Michigan.
[00:09:56] It was a little bit of a messy exit back then, you know, but he's back.
[00:10:02] He kind of, you know, even saw his career dip a little, struggle, you know, not a good tenure at Michigan.
[00:10:09] Struggled at Arizona.
[00:10:11] Right.
[00:10:11] But then has.
[00:10:13] Rebounded.
[00:10:14] Yeah, rebounded at Jacksonville State.
[00:10:16] Led them, of course, to the Comp.
[00:10:18] USA title this year.
[00:10:19] Mm-hmm.
[00:10:20] And, but now he's moving back to West Virginia.
[00:10:23] Yeah, interesting hire there.
[00:10:26] You know, the world of, you know, of Major, well, has really changed since he was last in Morgantown for sure.
[00:10:35] So it'd be interesting to see.
[00:10:37] I mean, he had them almost on elite level winning before he left for Michigan.
[00:10:42] So it'd be interesting to see if he can even get anywhere near what he had going.
[00:10:48] But, you know, not often do you see a retread hire like that, especially back to the same school.
[00:10:55] So it'd be interesting how it plays out or what kind of patience they have or, you know, how it goes the second time around.
[00:11:01] I bet you sometimes he wishes he had never went to Michigan because he had a role in West Virginia.
[00:11:07] He did.
[00:11:08] And if I remember right, it was kind of arguments over, you know, them not really supporting the program a lot or he wanted more money into the facilities or something like that.
[00:11:18] Probably so.
[00:11:19] I could see that.
[00:11:20] And who knows how things change, too, if they don't lose to Pitt in that crazy 2007 season.
[00:11:28] A bad Pitt team, too.
[00:11:29] If they get that win.
[00:11:30] That was a crazy loss.
[00:11:31] They would have gone to the national championship, the BCS title game.
[00:11:35] Who knows?
[00:11:35] Because they didn't have a conference title game.
[00:11:37] Yeah.
[00:11:37] Who knows what would have happened then?
[00:11:40] Exactly.
[00:11:40] Because that team was explosive.
[00:11:42] They had such an explosive team.
[00:11:43] Pat White, Steve Slayton.
[00:11:45] Man.
[00:11:45] My goodness.
[00:11:47] Fun to watch, you know, talk about revolutioning.
[00:11:49] You know, one of the forefathers of the spread option.
[00:11:52] Yeah.
[00:11:53] And really helped change the sport, him and Urban Meyer back in that day.
[00:11:57] Right.
[00:11:58] Yeah, that was, man.
[00:12:00] But if he can, you know, I don't know exactly how successful he'll be.
[00:12:06] But, you know, he knows how to win in Morgansdown.
[00:12:10] He knows the culture well.
[00:12:11] So, he won't have any surprises there.
[00:12:13] I think they're happy to have him back, it sounds like, anyway.
[00:12:18] It'll be interesting.
[00:12:19] And just to see what the expectations are.
[00:12:24] You know.
[00:12:25] Yeah.
[00:12:25] It's very.
[00:12:26] You know, we just talked about Bill Belichick.
[00:12:28] And, you know, he took over for Matt Brown, who did a very similar thing.
[00:12:31] Had early career success at North Carolina before he went to Texas and then came back
[00:12:36] after all those years.
[00:12:37] So, who knows?
[00:12:39] And speaking of guys going back to where they've had success, Scott Frost back at UCF.
[00:12:44] Yeah, back to UCF.
[00:12:45] Weird.
[00:12:45] Of course, Gus Malzahn, that strange, you know, resigned to take the offensive coordinator
[00:12:50] job at Florida State.
[00:12:52] Yeah.
[00:12:52] And it sounds like he just wanted to get back to coaching.
[00:12:54] So, it sounded like that was kind of NIL related and I really wanted to deal with all
[00:12:58] that from Gus's standpoint.
[00:13:00] Yeah.
[00:13:01] So, Scott Frost comes back where he had a ton of success.
[00:13:04] Yeah.
[00:13:04] Won the fake national title and all.
[00:13:08] Yeah.
[00:13:09] You know, before he had that unfortunate tenure at Nebraska.
[00:13:13] Yeah.
[00:13:13] So, it'll be interesting to see what he does this time.
[00:13:18] You know, yeah.
[00:13:19] A lot of success.
[00:13:21] You know, even kind of fell off after he left.
[00:13:24] I mean, Josh Heupel had some success, but didn't quite reach Scott Frost levels.
[00:13:29] Yeah.
[00:13:29] Not the sustained success that he had.
[00:13:31] There was a plethora of talent, I feel like, when Scott Frost got there that went pro.
[00:13:38] So, we'll see how he does the second time around.
[00:13:42] And see what maybe what he learned, you know, from his time in Nebraska to improve.
[00:13:46] Because it was a, you know, as much as hype as it was for him coming home to Nebraska.
[00:13:55] Man, it went about as bad as possible considering how high the name he was when he came into the job there.
[00:14:02] So, it'll be interesting how he rebounds there.
[00:14:05] Sure.
[00:14:06] And then you were talking about another, you were talking about Barry Odom going to Purdue.
[00:14:12] And then UNLV, interesting how he bringing in Dan Molan.
[00:14:19] Really?
[00:14:20] Is that official or is that just a...
[00:14:21] Yeah.
[00:14:22] That's official.
[00:14:23] Interesting.
[00:14:24] I have not seen that.
[00:14:27] Wow.
[00:14:27] There it is.
[00:14:28] Yeah.
[00:14:28] Sure enough.
[00:14:29] That's crazy.
[00:14:30] Oh, I didn't see.
[00:14:31] I had heard the rumors, but I didn't think it was official.
[00:14:34] But, man, that's kind of his jam.
[00:14:38] Probably, you know, won't be stressed.
[00:14:41] The recruiting won't be intense there.
[00:14:43] He can have a moderate level of success there.
[00:14:45] And he could probably do a lot with a program like that.
[00:14:52] So, yeah.
[00:14:53] That's a surprising one there for me.
[00:14:58] Other stuff going on there.
[00:15:02] I just had another one I wanted to kind of...
[00:15:04] We kind of talked about Charles Huff leaving Marshall to go to Southern Miss and how that was weird.
[00:15:10] That kind of showed some consequences this week.
[00:15:13] Because Marshall had basically pulled...
[00:15:15] They had to...
[00:15:16] Not basically.
[00:15:17] They did pull out of their bowl game against Army, the Independence Bowl, because they didn't have enough players.
[00:15:22] After Huff left, so many of their players went to the transfer portal.
[00:15:28] Which is just insane.
[00:15:31] He didn't like the contract?
[00:15:33] Or they didn't want...
[00:15:34] He basically played it up until the end and they didn't give what he thought?
[00:15:39] Or...
[00:15:39] I don't know exactly what happened there.
[00:15:41] But, obviously, him and the brass at Marshall have obviously had some issues.
[00:15:48] They didn't get...
[00:15:49] And it looks like overall it's going to hurt the university more than anything.
[00:15:52] Because that's a bad look to win the conference title and then not even be able to...
[00:15:56] Have enough people to know how to go to the bowl game.
[00:15:58] Yikes.
[00:15:59] Yeah.
[00:16:00] That's what...
[00:16:00] Yeah.
[00:16:01] The craziest thing about it is you're...
[00:16:03] You just won the conference title.
[00:16:05] And then you're not even going to play in bowl game.
[00:16:07] It sucks with the kids that did stick around, too.
[00:16:10] Yeah.
[00:16:10] And it really...
[00:16:11] You know...
[00:16:12] And it also sucks on the other end, too, for Army.
[00:16:15] I mean, now they're playing a 5-7.
[00:16:17] I think a...
[00:16:18] La Tech team.
[00:16:19] Yeah.
[00:16:20] I'm just like...
[00:16:23] Yeah.
[00:16:23] After a very disappointing Army Navy game for them.
[00:16:27] Yeah.
[00:16:28] That's an...
[00:16:28] I was kind of psyched how that game went.
[00:16:31] But, yeah.
[00:16:31] Speaking of that Marshall situation, Lane Kiffin had some comments about it.
[00:16:35] I don't know if it was earlier this week or last week.
[00:16:37] But he talked about the transfer portal and how he felt that, you know, the timing of it
[00:16:42] was horrible and it should be moved.
[00:16:44] And he's right.
[00:16:45] I think it needs to be after you shouldn't...
[00:16:48] There should be some rule you can't enter the portal until after your team's...
[00:16:51] All your team's games are finished.
[00:16:53] And so, if you make a bowl game, you can't enter the portal yet.
[00:16:56] Yeah.
[00:16:57] I think it would protect some of these bowl games, you know, with all these tons of opt-outs.
[00:17:02] It would, you know, help coaches.
[00:17:07] You just got to do something better, you know.
[00:17:09] You know, no people will talk about, oh, well, they need coaches.
[00:17:12] You know, if they opt out after the bowl game, you know.
[00:17:15] What about teams that make a playoff run?
[00:17:17] Well, you know, they're probably better suited to fill holes.
[00:17:21] But, you know, oh, well, it won't leave them that much time to...
[00:17:25] Well, then push back signing day or push back the transfer portal window.
[00:17:30] They can move a lot of stuff if they wanted to.
[00:17:32] Because, I mean, if you look at it, it's tough.
[00:17:35] Because, I mean, you have...
[00:17:38] For the players, I mean, they either, A, have to jump into the portal.
[00:17:42] Or they stay where they're at.
[00:17:44] So, I mean, they have to make that decision right then and there.
[00:17:46] I mean, they really don't have time to think about it.
[00:17:48] Either you're going to A, roll with the team, or you're going to jump in the portal if you feel like you're going to leave.
[00:17:53] So, I mean, it's not fair because they basically have a split decision to make it.
[00:17:56] And then you're either, you know, going to the bowl game.
[00:17:59] And then if you have, like, a national title run, like, senior bowls, like, the next week after, like...
[00:18:04] Right after that.
[00:18:07] And then right after that is, you know, everything just so right up against each other.
[00:18:13] Right after that is in the, you know, the combine and stuff.
[00:18:15] So, it's really no time for anybody to sit there and actually make decisions.
[00:18:20] Everything is so rash and so quick that you have to make.
[00:18:23] It may not always be the best decisions because you have to go so quick with everything these days.
[00:18:29] Yeah, and it's...
[00:18:31] And, you know, maybe, I think maybe a part of the argument might be that, well, you know, kids need to get out and get in before the school semester starts.
[00:18:39] And while that's true, that's also a decision they're making, a conscious decision to move somewhere to a different school and uproot their life and do that.
[00:18:46] So, that's just got to be...
[00:18:47] Hey, that's got to be part of it.
[00:18:49] That's just got to be part of you making that decision.
[00:18:52] And the schools, you know, need to live with that or they need to adjust somehow.
[00:18:56] You know, if that's a problem, then make it only...
[00:18:58] Because I know they want to go off that semester stuff.
[00:18:59] Make it only a summer window then.
[00:19:01] Yeah.
[00:19:02] I know everybody wants to go off that semester stuff, but obviously it's ways to adjust it.
[00:19:06] Yeah.
[00:19:06] I mean, how many days are you really missing in that second semester, honestly?
[00:19:11] And how many classes are you actually going to as a football player?
[00:19:14] Is that like...
[00:19:15] I'm sure a lot are online if they're, you know, I'm sure there's a lot of online classes.
[00:19:19] Yeah.
[00:19:20] I just worry, it's the good stuff done without necessarily being on the campus.
[00:19:23] You can, yeah, you can make stuff up in the summer.
[00:19:25] Yeah.
[00:19:26] So, I don't want to hear that argument.
[00:19:28] There's plenty of ways around it.
[00:19:30] Yeah, and I fully agree with Lane Kiffin.
[00:19:32] It does not need to be this right after, you know, it doesn't need to be in December.
[00:19:36] It needs to be...
[00:19:37] Or at least if it's going to be, it can only be...
[00:19:39] Like I said, you should only be able to enter the portal after your teams, all your teams' games are done.
[00:19:44] Not just bowl games, you know, or not just regular season, bowl games too.
[00:19:48] So, and then...
[00:19:52] Because, yeah, you know, and that takes...
[00:19:54] And maybe even...
[00:19:56] Maybe even not that.
[00:19:57] Maybe just a hard day.
[00:19:59] Like maybe it doesn't open until the day after the national title game.
[00:20:02] So that way, if a, you know, a good name enters the portal,
[00:20:06] and then coaches who are, you know, coaching...
[00:20:09] This is, I think, more of Kiffin's point.
[00:20:11] If coaches are trying to coach deep into December or January,
[00:20:15] they're still trying to do coaching, work on game plans, etc.
[00:20:18] Now, all of a sudden, they have to start recruiting these transfer kids too.
[00:20:21] And that takes...
[00:20:22] It's just an insane process.
[00:20:24] It just needs to be fixed.
[00:20:26] Yeah.
[00:20:26] Yeah.
[00:20:27] People just split in so many directions these days.
[00:20:29] You have to focus on your team.
[00:20:31] You have to focus on the transfer portal.
[00:20:32] You have to focus on the keeping guys that aren't hoping to keep somebody
[00:20:36] from jumping in the portal.
[00:20:38] Give them a hope for next year, whatever the case may be.
[00:20:41] And then, I mean, you look at it too.
[00:20:43] I mean, it's also crazy because, for example, you know,
[00:20:47] I just saw that the Penn State backup quarterback
[00:20:49] that actually played a little bit this year jumped in the portal today.
[00:20:53] So let's say something happens there to their quarterback.
[00:20:57] Yikes.
[00:20:58] Yeah, exactly.
[00:20:59] That's...
[00:21:00] Who's going to play?
[00:21:01] So it's just a messy situation, once again, you know, the NCAA.
[00:21:05] Because if anything, I feel like you could do the...
[00:21:08] You know, even if you...
[00:21:11] Even if you...
[00:21:15] Even if you open up the transfer portal,
[00:21:17] like let's say at the first of the year,
[00:21:20] I think that would be okay.
[00:21:24] Because I think at that point either, I mean,
[00:21:26] playoff teams probably stand together.
[00:21:28] And then you would have that transfer portal from there to the...
[00:21:33] I guess the old signing day in February or something like that.
[00:21:36] I don't know.
[00:21:38] You know, have a month.
[00:21:39] And I think that would give a little bit more time.
[00:21:41] But even then, yeah, it's just a...
[00:21:43] Just a tough situation.
[00:21:45] We'll see how it...
[00:21:46] See what they can do to fix it in some sense.
[00:21:49] Because, I mean, there's just so much going on.
[00:21:51] And I don't think everybody just has the time to sit down
[00:21:54] and actually make their best decisions.
[00:21:55] Because it's a decision you have to make then and there.
[00:21:58] You don't really have time to change your decision, you know?
[00:22:01] Yeah, exactly.
[00:22:02] Or think long and hard about it.
[00:22:03] You either, A, I'm happy.
[00:22:05] Or, B, I'm going to the portal.
[00:22:07] So, yeah.
[00:22:08] So, yeah, like you said,
[00:22:09] maybe it forced kids to really think about it
[00:22:11] and talk to their coaches, their staff,
[00:22:13] and say, hey, you know, if it's a playing time thing,
[00:22:15] do I really...
[00:22:16] You know, what do I need to do to get playing time here next year?
[00:22:19] Right.
[00:22:20] And, you know, sometimes, you know, they'll tell them,
[00:22:22] hey, it might be best for you to go into portal.
[00:22:25] Exactly.
[00:22:25] And there's nothing wrong with that.
[00:22:26] Yeah, you know.
[00:22:28] And it gives coaches a chance to make a plan, too.
[00:22:30] Like, well, hey, here's where we're going to be thin next year.
[00:22:32] We need to convince this kid.
[00:22:34] Or, like, you know what?
[00:22:35] Look, this kid's not going to play for us.
[00:22:37] You know?
[00:22:38] So, but, yeah.
[00:22:40] For example, like in Alabama, you know, what's his name?
[00:22:44] Devontae Smith just jumped into the portal.
[00:22:46] I was kind of shocked her, but I was thinking maybe that's more of...
[00:22:49] You might have got told, hey, why not?
[00:22:51] You know, would Red Morgan everybody have more time?
[00:22:53] You know, he did some good things this year,
[00:22:55] but I was like, dang, was he pushed?
[00:22:57] Or did he really want to go into the portal?
[00:22:59] Because I thought he had a solid end of the season for us.
[00:23:02] Yeah, that was an interesting one.
[00:23:03] Yeah, and he was a starter at times.
[00:23:05] So that one, I think that one kind of hurts, too.
[00:23:07] And, of course, Justice Haynes also in the portal from Bama.
[00:23:10] I think we all saw at least one of those spots coming in.
[00:23:14] It does suck because, you know, he's flash potential and stuff.
[00:23:17] And if he goes somewhere where he gets a whole, you know...
[00:23:22] I said the early people would mention Ohio State.
[00:23:25] Yeah.
[00:23:28] I think, you know, Alabama's in the battle for that receiver from North Carolina State.
[00:23:34] So we'll see what they add.
[00:23:36] Seems like we're right there with that.
[00:23:38] And it'll also be interesting, too, because, you know, the offense...
[00:23:42] Because it sounds like, of course, the bowl game is going to be J-1's last game
[00:23:45] from the way he was talking about it.
[00:23:47] Sure seems like it, yeah.
[00:23:49] Because he basically said, you know, it'll be interesting to see how next your thing plays out.
[00:23:53] I'm basically saying, you know, I'm not going to be here.
[00:23:56] And I would assume he's going to try the pros because no matter what people have said,
[00:24:01] he's still in most of my drafts somewhere in that first round.
[00:24:04] So, yeah, I think, you know, someone's going to feel like they can turn Jalen into, you know, something.
[00:24:12] So we'll see.
[00:24:13] But, you know, that'll change the offense a lot, you know, if we have more of a pocket passer
[00:24:19] or more of a, you know, more, I guess, more of a standard quarterback as far as how that does with the running game.
[00:24:27] But, you know, even if we do, you know, we're losing Haynes.
[00:24:31] I mean, we still have a plethora of backs.
[00:24:33] So, I mean, I guess if there was a spot to lose, that's not the worst.
[00:24:38] No, yeah, you just hope that he doesn't, you know, go somewhere and become a superstar, you know,
[00:24:43] at least definitely somewhere in the SEC.
[00:24:45] At least stop the SEC.
[00:24:46] Yeah, at least go up north.
[00:24:49] But, yeah, you know, Jim Miller had a lot of great game runs this year and looked explosive.
[00:24:54] Richard Young's a very highly touted young guy.
[00:24:57] We got strong recruits coming in.
[00:25:00] Yeah, we got that good dude from Mississippi.
[00:25:01] So, yeah, that's it.
[00:25:04] So, yeah.
[00:25:05] It'd be interesting, though.
[00:25:06] Other where, you know, in the transfer portal, the big news, you know, maybe that most coveted guy,
[00:25:11] Darian Mensah from Tulane, will be going to Duke.
[00:25:14] So, he's just get some great education.
[00:25:17] Right.
[00:25:18] Good pickup from Manny Diaz there.
[00:25:20] But I was curious about that whole situation with the, I can't think of his name right now,
[00:25:27] the Duke quarterback, Malik.
[00:25:31] Malik Murphy.
[00:25:33] Malik Murphy, yeah.
[00:25:34] Like, was he, I don't know, they were so bang-bang, I didn't know if, like, he told me he was jumping in the portal
[00:25:41] and they went after Mensah or they said, hey, we're bringing in Mensah.
[00:25:44] And Malik was like, hey, I'm out.
[00:25:46] You know, I don't know how that exactly worked.
[00:25:48] They were so bang-bang with both of those decisions.
[00:25:51] Yeah.
[00:25:52] That was kind of interesting to see.
[00:25:55] Another Miller Moss from USC QB going to Louisville.
[00:26:00] We'll go ahead and one more year there.
[00:26:02] That would be interesting.
[00:26:04] Yeah, going to play for, you know, a QB guru of sorts in Jeff Brom.
[00:26:08] So, good pickup for the Cardinals.
[00:26:10] Mm-hmm.
[00:26:12] Other than that, not a lot of huge names have gone anywhere yet.
[00:26:18] You know, there's still some big guys out there.
[00:26:19] Of course, Jackson Arnold this week, I guess that's one, committed from Oklahoma to Auburn.
[00:26:23] So, we get to see him again, Bama fans.
[00:26:26] We'll see what Hugh Freeze does with him.
[00:26:30] Because I don't – I still don't think people – I don't think anybody knows if Jackson Arnold is still good or not.
[00:26:35] Because last year was such a wash.
[00:26:37] I mean, their offense outside of our game, unfortunately, was absolutely atrocious.
[00:26:43] You know, they fired their offensive coordinator midway through the season.
[00:26:48] And, you know, I don't think Jackson Arnold really got a true – we've never got a true sense of if he's good or not.
[00:26:53] So, it'll be interesting to see what he does at Auburn.
[00:26:57] You know, if he is anywhere near what people thought, yikes.
[00:27:01] But we'll see.
[00:27:03] We'll see how it plays out.
[00:27:04] Yeah, we'll see how Hugh Freeze does.
[00:27:07] You know, the staff isn't really developed these quarterbacks so far.
[00:27:12] Yeah.
[00:27:15] You know –
[00:27:16] We'll see.
[00:27:16] Again, you don't know, is Jackson Arnold a bust?
[00:27:18] Is he not?
[00:27:19] Or is he just – you know, is he explosive talent waiting there?
[00:27:22] Can Freeze unlock it?
[00:27:24] Yeah.
[00:27:24] We'll see.
[00:27:25] Yeah, for sure.
[00:27:29] I'm trying to think other than that.
[00:27:33] I don't think, like I said, that's probably the biggest ones as far as –
[00:27:37] Yeah.
[00:27:39] Big names that have, like I said, already –
[00:27:42] Of course, quarterbacks seem always to be the most coveted.
[00:27:46] Right.
[00:27:47] Cow's quarterback, Fernando Mendoza, is in the portal.
[00:27:50] He's in the portal.
[00:27:51] I don't know if he's really good or not.
[00:27:54] I honestly –
[00:27:54] We'll see.
[00:27:55] Liberty's quarterback, Caden Salters, in there.
[00:27:59] Connor –
[00:28:00] That's an interesting one, at least a big name.
[00:28:02] Connor Wegman.
[00:28:03] Oh, yeah.
[00:28:03] That's the right he is in there.
[00:28:04] A big, highly touted recruit coming out of high school.
[00:28:09] Just never could really get it going.
[00:28:13] Yeah, he's got so many injuries.
[00:28:15] So many injuries, yeah.
[00:28:17] And just as, you know, he's a redshirt sophomore.
[00:28:19] But he's going to Houston, so that's an interesting pickup there.
[00:28:22] Yeah.
[00:28:23] Yeah.
[00:28:24] I think that's a great, great sign.
[00:28:27] It's his hometown.
[00:28:30] And then they also got the coach from Florida to go be their DC.
[00:28:34] There was a co-DC.
[00:28:35] Oh, okay.
[00:28:37] The guy who was at Alabama, I can't –
[00:28:39] He was going to be our linebacker coach.
[00:28:41] We brought him in, and then he went to Florida to be the DC.
[00:28:45] Ah, young guy.
[00:28:47] Oh, I know what you're talking about.
[00:28:48] Yeah.
[00:28:48] Yeah, I can't think of this thing.
[00:28:50] I'm still the miss.
[00:28:52] Yeah.
[00:28:52] But another big name that jumped in that I was very surprised at, Michael Van Buren jumped
[00:29:02] from Mississippi State.
[00:29:04] Yeah.
[00:29:04] And he was going to LSU.
[00:29:07] Is he?
[00:29:08] Yeah.
[00:29:08] That is what I see now.
[00:29:09] I was trying to follow where he was going.
[00:29:14] Huh.
[00:29:15] That is a – potentially that just happened today.
[00:29:19] That's a –
[00:29:19] Did it?
[00:29:20] I knew he was in there because the Mississippi State had signed.
[00:29:24] Who did they get?
[00:29:25] They got someone out.
[00:29:28] I thought they got someone else out the portal.
[00:29:32] They did.
[00:29:33] Who was it?
[00:29:34] Well, it's weird because, you know, Van Buren was committed to Oregon and then decommitted
[00:29:40] and flipped to State to go with Jeff Lebby.
[00:29:43] And then, you know, he got starts this year.
[00:29:46] They're getting – but Blake Shepin from Baylor.
[00:29:52] You know, they got him from Baylor.
[00:29:54] Oh, he was the one who got – because he was the original star last year and he got
[00:29:57] hurt.
[00:29:57] And that's how it was.
[00:29:58] Yeah.
[00:29:58] He got hurt this season against Florida in September.
[00:30:01] And it looks like he announced that he's going to return next year.
[00:30:05] So maybe the staff told Van Buren that it's Shepin's job, which seems crazy to me because
[00:30:10] Van Buren seemed to play pretty well.
[00:30:13] Yeah.
[00:30:14] Moments.
[00:30:14] Yeah.
[00:30:15] I mean, he didn't have a lot to work with.
[00:30:16] It was an ugly season.
[00:30:18] But you saw potential there.
[00:30:19] Yeah.
[00:30:20] I think some of it, too.
[00:30:21] I thought, you know, I thought they were in that – I thought they were in the – what's
[00:30:26] his name?
[00:30:29] The OU quarterback.
[00:30:31] Jackson Arnold.
[00:30:32] Yeah.
[00:30:33] I think that may have been why he jumped to the portal because I think there was a lot
[00:30:38] of talk Jeff Lebby was going to bring in Jackson Arnold.
[00:30:41] There was.
[00:30:42] And that was a big, you know, rumored thing that they were going to go after him.
[00:30:46] But, of course, they did not get him.
[00:30:48] And now they're out a great young quarterback, it seems.
[00:30:52] But maybe he didn't fit what they were trying to do.
[00:30:55] I don't know.
[00:30:55] But I thought he had potential.
[00:30:59] But that – so that would be interesting because obviously he's going to have to sit a year
[00:31:04] because Nussmire is coming back.
[00:31:07] Yeah.
[00:31:08] So if he wanted to play, I don't – LSU is not the best spot to go to.
[00:31:13] But I guess if you look at recent history of LSU quarterbacks, we'll see.
[00:31:19] I don't know if he's looking at that.
[00:31:22] So we'll see.
[00:31:24] Exactly.
[00:31:24] I think that is –
[00:31:28] Obviously, things change a lot after the Michigan quarterback.
[00:31:31] After he stayed in Michigan, they'll change on Underwood.
[00:31:34] That changed a lot of stuff at LSU.
[00:31:40] Yeah.
[00:31:41] So that's just some interesting stuff going on there.
[00:31:43] There's still some guys out there.
[00:31:47] But, yeah, we'll see how that plays out.
[00:31:49] There's like over 2,000 people that jumped in the portal.
[00:31:52] That's just insane.
[00:31:53] Yeah, it's insane.
[00:31:53] Insane, yeah.
[00:31:54] And we'll see what else.
[00:31:56] As far as coaching goes, just I think that's all the big ones.
[00:32:00] Bronco Mendenhall, that's a name.
[00:32:02] He's back.
[00:32:02] He's now at Utah State.
[00:32:04] Utah State.
[00:32:05] Left New Mexico.
[00:32:06] Yeah, left New Mexico.
[00:32:07] So a little bit of a bump up there.
[00:32:09] Yeah.
[00:32:10] And then as far as what's still there,
[00:32:14] Central Michigan still has a vacancy after Jim McElwain retired.
[00:32:20] Sam Houston has an opening after their coach left to take the Temple job.
[00:32:26] Oh.
[00:32:27] And then I think there's one more opening still.
[00:32:31] Ohio, after a MAC title,
[00:32:34] they lost their coach to another coach who left to a conference champion,
[00:32:39] but they lost their coach to Charlotte.
[00:32:44] I don't know.
[00:32:45] Is that a come up?
[00:32:48] I don't know.
[00:32:49] Maybe he just wants to be in the South.
[00:32:51] Who knows?
[00:32:51] I don't know anything about him, but.
[00:32:54] I don't know if that's really it.
[00:32:56] Of course.
[00:32:57] Yeah.
[00:32:58] Oklahoma State decided to keep Mike Gundy.
[00:33:02] They pulled some of his money for NIL?
[00:33:05] I don't understand that.
[00:33:08] That's interesting.
[00:33:09] I feel like that's on his last legs.
[00:33:12] How about saying it?
[00:33:12] It also feels like it's,
[00:33:15] you know,
[00:33:15] self detrimental there if you're Oklahoma State,
[00:33:18] because he's going to need players.
[00:33:20] But yeah,
[00:33:20] maybe just a long tenure of Gundy's coming to the end.
[00:33:25] Coming to the end.
[00:33:26] Who knows in the Big 12,
[00:33:27] he could turn around and go undefeated next year.
[00:33:29] Yeah.
[00:33:30] Yeah.
[00:33:30] And I think that's a,
[00:33:32] you know,
[00:33:32] that's the other thing too with the,
[00:33:33] you know,
[00:33:34] with that Big 12.
[00:33:35] You just,
[00:33:36] anybody could jump up.
[00:33:38] I mean,
[00:33:39] so Houston could,
[00:33:40] you know,
[00:33:41] they get their stuff together.
[00:33:43] I mean,
[00:33:43] that's a,
[00:33:44] big Willie Fritz will get it going there.
[00:33:46] And,
[00:33:48] you know,
[00:33:49] I think that's the other thing that gets these coaches coming back.
[00:33:52] Or,
[00:33:52] you know,
[00:33:53] get Bill Belichick interested.
[00:33:54] You know,
[00:33:55] they see,
[00:33:56] you know,
[00:33:56] SMU jumping in the playoff or they see,
[00:33:59] you know,
[00:33:59] and they're like,
[00:34:00] man,
[00:34:00] I could do that.
[00:34:01] You know,
[00:34:01] they have that feeling.
[00:34:02] Well,
[00:34:03] you know,
[00:34:03] I'm good enough to have done that.
[00:34:05] Or,
[00:34:05] you know,
[00:34:06] you see Dan Mullen getting back into coaching and,
[00:34:08] you know,
[00:34:08] he say,
[00:34:09] well,
[00:34:09] shit,
[00:34:10] you know,
[00:34:11] UNLV basically one game away from a playoff spot.
[00:34:14] You know,
[00:34:14] if I could,
[00:34:15] you know,
[00:34:15] get some people in here,
[00:34:17] run my offense,
[00:34:19] you know,
[00:34:19] it probably feels like he could win the,
[00:34:21] the Mountain West and,
[00:34:22] you know,
[00:34:23] get one of them playoff bursts like a Boise State did this year.
[00:34:26] So.
[00:34:27] Absolutely.
[00:34:28] Yeah.
[00:34:29] And of course,
[00:34:30] you know,
[00:34:31] Sam Pittman will remain at Arkansas.
[00:34:33] I'm sure he'll be on the hot seat next year.
[00:34:36] Billy.
[00:34:36] Yeah.
[00:34:36] We already knew he's staying.
[00:34:39] Dave Aranda will stay at Baylor after he had a,
[00:34:43] you know,
[00:34:43] end of the year.
[00:34:44] Yeah.
[00:34:45] Six game winning streak.
[00:34:46] So.
[00:34:47] They're winning what?
[00:34:47] Eight and four.
[00:34:49] Interesting.
[00:34:49] You know,
[00:34:49] four after the two and four start.
[00:34:52] Yeah.
[00:34:52] Yeah.
[00:34:52] I played former school and play.
[00:34:57] LSU in the bowl game.
[00:34:59] That'd be interesting.
[00:35:00] I'm going up against his,
[00:35:01] where it was a DC.
[00:35:02] Yeah.
[00:35:03] Yeah.
[00:35:04] But that,
[00:35:05] yeah,
[00:35:05] that's a dude.
[00:35:06] He was definitely,
[00:35:08] you know,
[00:35:08] he definitely kind of was on the hot seat.
[00:35:10] I guess he's.
[00:35:11] Kind of off for now.
[00:35:14] But we'll,
[00:35:14] we'll see what he does.
[00:35:15] It's coming up here.
[00:35:16] Yeah.
[00:35:17] Yeah.
[00:35:17] It might be a room,
[00:35:18] room temperature seat next year.
[00:35:20] Right.
[00:35:21] The biggest surprise to me that someone who's staying is UAB decided to keep Trent Dilfer.
[00:35:27] Crazy.
[00:35:28] Um,
[00:35:29] and it's not just the losing.
[00:35:31] I mean,
[00:35:31] it's obviously bad enough.
[00:35:33] And,
[00:35:33] you know,
[00:35:33] UAB is not a perennial powerhouse,
[00:35:36] but they have a proud tradition there and they're proud of what they have.
[00:35:39] And exactly.
[00:35:40] You know,
[00:35:41] before that,
[00:35:42] that weird shutdown of the program,
[00:35:43] they were winning conference USA titles.
[00:35:45] Right.
[00:35:48] the way he does the city and distance.
[00:35:50] Yeah.
[00:35:50] He,
[00:35:50] he disses this.
[00:35:51] It's his talk.
[00:35:52] It's his arrogance.
[00:35:53] Fans don't like him.
[00:35:54] UAB,
[00:35:55] you know,
[00:35:56] again,
[00:35:56] I live here in Birmingham.
[00:35:57] People don't like him.
[00:35:58] He is not a light guy here.
[00:36:00] Uh,
[00:36:00] there's not a lot of excitement around what he's doing.
[00:36:03] The program,
[00:36:04] you know,
[00:36:04] of course they said they'll expect to make big staff changes.
[00:36:07] Well,
[00:36:07] you better bring in a,
[00:36:08] uh,
[00:36:09] some bigness name that UAB can draw.
[00:36:12] And I don't know.
[00:36:14] Yeah.
[00:36:15] UAB can draw.
[00:36:16] So,
[00:36:17] um,
[00:36:18] just weird.
[00:36:19] Yeah.
[00:36:20] It's,
[00:36:20] it's weird.
[00:36:21] It's,
[00:36:21] it's a weird one.
[00:36:22] And then as far as extensions go,
[00:36:25] it looks like Rhett Lashley got one from SMU.
[00:36:28] So that's,
[00:36:28] you know,
[00:36:29] good for them to keep a very good coach.
[00:36:33] Yeah.
[00:36:33] Yeah.
[00:36:34] After a big year.
[00:36:36] Yeah.
[00:36:36] For sure.
[00:36:37] But let's,
[00:36:38] let's look ahead.
[00:36:39] Uh,
[00:36:40] obviously we know the field for the college football playoff.
[00:36:44] Let's just preview a few of these games or release first round games.
[00:36:47] Just real quick.
[00:36:49] Um,
[00:36:50] we'll start.
[00:36:50] We're doing in chronological order.
[00:36:52] Friday nights,
[00:36:53] our first one,
[00:36:53] the 10 seven game,
[00:36:54] Indiana visits Notre Dame.
[00:36:56] Uh,
[00:36:57] we,
[00:36:57] we talked about it.
[00:36:58] Just a kind of a dream matchup for Indiana.
[00:37:01] Uh,
[00:37:01] I love,
[00:37:02] I love,
[00:37:02] I just love the feel of the game,
[00:37:04] you know,
[00:37:05] both in state,
[00:37:05] I mean,
[00:37:06] those,
[00:37:07] there's so much excitement.
[00:37:08] Those tickets are going for like a thousand dollars right now.
[00:37:11] That's crazy.
[00:37:12] That's just insane.
[00:37:12] That just shows the excitement.
[00:37:14] I mean,
[00:37:14] not only for,
[00:37:15] I mean,
[00:37:15] it's dream for Notre Dame though.
[00:37:17] I mean,
[00:37:18] that's,
[00:37:18] I mean,
[00:37:18] that's historical in itself.
[00:37:20] So whether you like Notre Dame or not,
[00:37:22] just the history there,
[00:37:23] the fact that they're hosting a playoff game in December.
[00:37:27] I mean,
[00:37:27] that's just,
[00:37:28] that's just a story in itself.
[00:37:30] And then you have the,
[00:37:31] the upstart underdogs from down the road in Bloomington at the basketball school coming in and they're ready to see what they can.
[00:37:55] Kirk,
[00:37:55] I don't know if they win the game,
[00:37:56] but I think they're,
[00:37:59] you know,
[00:37:59] I have plenty of time to get ready for it.
[00:38:01] And I think it'll be a fun one.
[00:38:04] Yeah.
[00:38:04] You think they keep it close?
[00:38:06] I think they do.
[00:38:08] I think they can.
[00:38:10] Yeah.
[00:38:10] Yeah.
[00:38:11] I kind of agree.
[00:38:11] I do like Notre Dame to get the win.
[00:38:13] They've just been playing really,
[00:38:14] really well the past month or so.
[00:38:18] So I like it.
[00:38:20] Yeah.
[00:38:21] Notre Dame has been,
[00:38:22] you know,
[00:38:22] probably the most under talked about just because I don't,
[00:38:27] some of it just because people don't know what to really think of Notre Dame because everybody just thinks that I've lost to Northern Illinois.
[00:38:36] It was a weird,
[00:38:37] one of the weirdest losses of the season.
[00:38:38] I think a lot of people dwell on that.
[00:38:40] And I think a lot of people feel like Notre Dame gets a lot of privilege.
[00:38:44] I mean,
[00:38:44] they do at times,
[00:38:45] but they more than earned their spot this year.
[00:38:49] But,
[00:38:50] you know,
[00:38:50] you know,
[00:38:51] a lot of people say,
[00:38:52] they didn't really play anybody and people really hung up about them not being in the conference,
[00:38:57] especially now with,
[00:38:58] you know,
[00:38:58] with conference team,
[00:39:00] you know,
[00:39:01] winning your conference,
[00:39:02] getting in or not.
[00:39:04] But,
[00:39:05] you know,
[00:39:05] they've been,
[00:39:06] they've been playing excellent football since,
[00:39:07] since that game.
[00:39:09] I mean,
[00:39:09] they've been blowing folks out,
[00:39:11] really not a lot of competition games.
[00:39:13] You know,
[00:39:13] people were really excited about those Army Navy games and they housed both of them like it was nothing.
[00:39:21] You know,
[00:39:21] they dominated USC,
[00:39:23] even on the road.
[00:39:24] I mean,
[00:39:25] they really haven't had any games where you're like,
[00:39:26] whoa.
[00:39:27] And usually Notre Dame has a couple of games and they're like,
[00:39:29] man,
[00:39:29] they're really in a battle,
[00:39:30] even at their best years.
[00:39:32] So,
[00:39:33] you know,
[00:39:33] I think this might be,
[00:39:34] if there's a time for Notre Dame to really have an opportunity to go deep in the playoff,
[00:39:40] or have a chance for their first title since 88,
[00:39:42] this might be the year.
[00:39:44] Yeah.
[00:39:45] Especially with the news that,
[00:39:46] you know,
[00:39:46] Carson Beck will not be playing.
[00:39:49] Yeah.
[00:39:50] I hate to hear that.
[00:39:51] Yeah.
[00:39:52] That,
[00:39:52] that kind of makes sense.
[00:39:53] That's a lot.
[00:39:54] Now,
[00:39:54] granted that there's a lot of practice time that this,
[00:39:57] between,
[00:39:58] between now and new year's day for the backup quarterback,
[00:40:00] his name is just blanking me right now.
[00:40:03] But,
[00:40:04] uh,
[00:40:04] yeah,
[00:40:04] I think,
[00:40:05] I think you're right.
[00:40:06] This is an opportunity for Notre Dame to,
[00:40:08] uh,
[00:40:09] at least me,
[00:40:09] you know,
[00:40:09] when you got it,
[00:40:10] you can't lose this game.
[00:40:11] You got to win this game.
[00:40:13] And then you got to at least,
[00:40:15] at least take Georgia.
[00:40:17] Yeah.
[00:40:18] And I think that George is a good team,
[00:40:22] but they're not,
[00:40:23] I,
[00:40:24] they're not the Georgia that we've been accustomed to over the last three or four
[00:40:27] years.
[00:40:28] No,
[00:40:28] they're not that kind of invincible feeling.
[00:40:30] They've pulled out some gains,
[00:40:31] but it used to be,
[00:40:33] they'd pull these games out and you're like,
[00:40:34] well,
[00:40:35] George is going to come back and win here.
[00:40:36] And they did,
[00:40:37] you know,
[00:40:37] kind of like that,
[00:40:38] you know,
[00:40:38] the peak years of the Alabama dynasty where you just knew like,
[00:40:41] it doesn't matter that they're down 10 points right now.
[00:40:44] And sure enough,
[00:40:45] it didn't.
[00:40:46] This year felt different.
[00:40:47] You know,
[00:40:48] you felt like,
[00:40:48] so you felt the,
[00:40:50] I mean,
[00:40:51] I,
[00:40:51] I mean,
[00:40:53] yeah,
[00:40:53] I mean,
[00:40:54] obviously,
[00:40:55] you know,
[00:40:55] they had the good win in Austin,
[00:40:56] but they had their backs against the wall at that point.
[00:40:59] I mean,
[00:41:00] people already count them out.
[00:41:01] It seems like when people count out Georgia is when they really show up,
[00:41:04] but I mean,
[00:41:05] you know,
[00:41:05] Alabama of one,
[00:41:06] I mean,
[00:41:07] it should have,
[00:41:07] I mean,
[00:41:09] and did Ole Miss house them.
[00:41:12] I mean,
[00:41:12] that's also both on the road.
[00:41:14] So,
[00:41:14] I mean,
[00:41:15] give or take,
[00:41:16] neither one's a bad loss.
[00:41:17] And they,
[00:41:18] of course,
[00:41:18] you know,
[00:41:19] they always find a way to dominate Tennessee,
[00:41:22] but,
[00:41:24] you know,
[00:41:25] the Texas,
[00:41:26] the second Texas game was such an ugly game.
[00:41:29] The SEC championship game was so ugly.
[00:41:31] I like terrible game.
[00:41:32] Yeah.
[00:41:33] So,
[00:41:33] but,
[00:41:34] you know,
[00:41:34] escaped Georgia Tech.
[00:41:37] They're still Georgia.
[00:41:38] They're still extremely talented.
[00:41:39] They find ways to win.
[00:41:40] It's just,
[00:41:40] they're more vulnerable than they've been for quite some time.
[00:41:44] Yeah.
[00:41:45] Since they,
[00:41:45] since they've started winning titles,
[00:41:47] it's,
[00:41:48] you know,
[00:41:49] there's a,
[00:41:50] I mean,
[00:41:51] of course,
[00:41:51] the win shot game,
[00:41:52] but they won the title.
[00:41:53] It also wouldn't shock me if they lost to Notre Dame either.
[00:41:56] No.
[00:41:57] Yeah.
[00:41:57] And that's just kind of year it's been for them.
[00:41:59] That's very up and down.
[00:42:00] That's kind of the whole field.
[00:42:01] I mean,
[00:42:02] there's not,
[00:42:02] no game where I just think,
[00:42:03] oh my gosh.
[00:42:07] Yeah.
[00:42:08] Um,
[00:42:08] let's move on Saturday.
[00:42:10] First game that kicks off is SMU going to happy Valley to play Penn state.
[00:42:14] Of course,
[00:42:14] great year for the Mustangs and their first year in the ACC,
[00:42:18] Penn state,
[00:42:19] another,
[00:42:19] you know,
[00:42:20] 10 win year,
[00:42:21] but you know,
[00:42:21] another loss to Ohio state.
[00:42:23] Uh,
[00:42:24] and although they did play Oregon extremely well in the big title game,
[00:42:27] another loss to a big name.
[00:42:31] you know,
[00:42:31] this isn't a big name per se,
[00:42:33] but it's a huge game.
[00:42:34] You better not lose this one.
[00:42:36] Hey,
[00:42:37] yeah.
[00:42:37] Team coming in with absolutely nothing to lose.
[00:42:40] Um,
[00:42:41] it's SMU,
[00:42:42] you know,
[00:42:43] got in the playoff despite not winning the conference.
[00:42:46] Uh,
[00:42:48] yeah.
[00:42:48] And if you're Franklin,
[00:42:49] you cannot,
[00:42:50] I mean,
[00:42:51] it won't get you fired,
[00:42:52] but you better win this game.
[00:42:54] No.
[00:42:55] Yeah.
[00:42:55] I honestly don't like at home.
[00:42:58] Yeah.
[00:42:59] And you probably have technically the more talented roster,
[00:43:01] but man,
[00:43:03] I just,
[00:43:05] it would not.
[00:43:06] SMU is going to give them a game.
[00:43:07] I'm about saying,
[00:43:08] not only would it not shock me if SMU came in there and give a run for it.
[00:43:12] Like,
[00:43:12] I don't know if I want to pick SMU to win yet,
[00:43:15] but you know,
[00:43:16] that,
[00:43:16] that lines around eight and a half right now.
[00:43:19] I'm definitely taking the points in SMU.
[00:43:21] Oh yeah.
[00:43:22] Yeah.
[00:43:23] Cause I think SMU can put up points with anybody.
[00:43:26] Yeah.
[00:43:26] The biggest problem with SMU is they turn the ball over a lot.
[00:43:29] You can't do that.
[00:43:30] Cause they,
[00:43:31] they average at least,
[00:43:32] uh,
[00:43:34] I'm just talking about Clemson game.
[00:43:35] You know,
[00:43:35] they started off sloppy and they get down 21,
[00:43:38] you know,
[00:43:39] 14,
[00:43:39] 21 at Penn state.
[00:43:41] That's not going to work out for them.
[00:43:43] So they're going to have to come out hot from the get go.
[00:43:46] They're going to have to gain momentum.
[00:43:48] The biggest thing for SMU is that environment.
[00:43:53] Cause they,
[00:43:54] they haven't seen an environment like Penn state.
[00:43:57] They haven't been to a happy rally.
[00:43:59] Cause you know,
[00:43:59] the,
[00:44:00] you know,
[00:44:00] it's the first year in ACC.
[00:44:01] I mean,
[00:44:02] even in ACC,
[00:44:03] I mean,
[00:44:04] there's not any really intent.
[00:44:05] I mean,
[00:44:06] Florida state might,
[00:44:06] might be the most intimidating stadium.
[00:44:09] Maybe West,
[00:44:10] maybe Virginia tech when they're on.
[00:44:12] Um,
[00:44:13] but yeah,
[00:44:15] the SMU has never seen anything quite like happy Valley.
[00:44:17] So it'd be interesting how they,
[00:44:19] how they get ready for that.
[00:44:20] Cause that's the atmosphere,
[00:44:21] especially when you've never been part of something like that.
[00:44:25] So that'll be interesting to see how they adapt to that.
[00:44:28] Um,
[00:44:30] but it also be interesting too,
[00:44:32] because,
[00:44:32] you know,
[00:44:32] the Penn state fan base gets frustrated at times,
[00:44:36] you know,
[00:44:36] they expect bigger things and then,
[00:44:38] you know,
[00:44:38] they get it,
[00:44:40] you know,
[00:44:40] they,
[00:44:41] when they lose Ohio state and we saw kind of reaction from that and,
[00:44:44] you know,
[00:44:44] getting into a Jane Franklin,
[00:44:46] man,
[00:44:46] imagine if SMU comes in there,
[00:44:48] puts up a quick 14 on you,
[00:44:50] that fan base is going to be pissed.
[00:44:53] Yeah,
[00:44:53] they're going to be,
[00:44:54] yeah,
[00:44:54] it'll be things to get dicey there in happy Valley.
[00:44:57] Yeah.
[00:44:58] After that is Clemson visiting Texas,
[00:45:02] a battle of the orange teams.
[00:45:03] Clemson,
[00:45:04] of course,
[00:45:04] got in,
[00:45:05] via their win in the ACC title game and just that great 56 year old,
[00:45:10] 56 yard walk off.
[00:45:11] Nailed it.
[00:45:12] I,
[00:45:12] they just know nailed it.
[00:45:15] Good.
[00:45:16] It was clean.
[00:45:16] Notable because it was Clemson's first win over a ranked team all season.
[00:45:20] Only their second win over team with a winning record.
[00:45:23] I picked the best time to do it.
[00:45:25] They did.
[00:45:28] This is the one game.
[00:45:30] All right.
[00:45:31] Yeah,
[00:45:31] go ahead.
[00:45:32] Now I was going to say,
[00:45:32] do you think that Clemson has a realistic shot?
[00:45:35] Do you think that maybe there's some questions about Texas?
[00:45:37] Like what big win do they actually have this year?
[00:45:40] Yeah,
[00:45:40] I think there are questions about Texas.
[00:45:44] I don't think that this is the one game.
[00:45:46] I really don't have any,
[00:45:49] maybe that's weird.
[00:45:50] And maybe it'll be the game that ends up being great,
[00:45:53] but I don't think a lot of people have a lot of questions about this.
[00:45:55] I don't think anybody really,
[00:45:56] I don't know.
[00:45:57] I don't have any faith in Clemson and going in there and winning.
[00:46:01] I think Texas handles business.
[00:46:04] That defense has put it pretty great in Texas.
[00:46:07] The offense has been suspect at times,
[00:46:09] but that defense is nasty.
[00:46:12] Yeah,
[00:46:12] that is a very good defense.
[00:46:14] I think I really like Sark's ability to draw up a game plan against that
[00:46:18] Clemson defense.
[00:46:19] It's been a good,
[00:46:21] but again,
[00:46:21] that schedule,
[00:46:23] they just,
[00:46:24] you know,
[00:46:25] they've lost to the one team that's worth a damn on their schedule this year.
[00:46:29] Twice.
[00:46:30] The two teams.
[00:46:31] Yeah.
[00:46:31] The South Carolina and Georgia.
[00:46:33] Are you talking about Texas?
[00:46:35] Yeah.
[00:46:35] Yeah.
[00:46:35] Sorry.
[00:46:36] Yeah.
[00:46:36] No,
[00:46:36] I was talking about Texas.
[00:46:38] I mean,
[00:46:39] they've played Texas.
[00:46:40] I mean,
[00:46:40] everything else was pretty cakewalk,
[00:46:43] but you know,
[00:46:43] I don't,
[00:46:45] I don't know.
[00:46:46] I don't think like,
[00:46:48] you know,
[00:46:48] I don't think,
[00:46:49] you know,
[00:46:49] they beat the Texas A&M.
[00:46:50] I don't think Clemson is probably about to,
[00:46:52] to me,
[00:46:52] they're like Texas A&M.
[00:46:54] I mean,
[00:46:54] they're a decent team,
[00:46:55] but I don't seem to,
[00:46:56] I just don't see Clemson be able to move the ball like that on Texas.
[00:47:02] No,
[00:47:02] I agree.
[00:47:03] And I think that.
[00:47:06] Now I will say,
[00:47:07] I think they need to have.
[00:47:10] Now yours is a quarterback,
[00:47:12] but I think they have to have some play for Arch Manning in the playoff at some point.
[00:47:17] No,
[00:47:17] I think,
[00:47:17] yeah,
[00:47:17] you got to get involved with his ability with his legs.
[00:47:20] You know,
[00:47:20] the talent he has with his legs.
[00:47:21] Yeah.
[00:47:22] Some Arch Manning.
[00:47:22] Uh,
[00:47:24] packages or something.
[00:47:25] Yeah.
[00:47:26] Sometimes Quinn Ewers has gotten stale at times for sure.
[00:47:29] Yeah.
[00:47:29] And you know,
[00:47:30] they need their,
[00:47:31] in a little more consistency from their guys,
[00:47:33] like Isaiah Bond,
[00:47:34] some of the receivers.
[00:47:35] Yeah.
[00:47:36] To really,
[00:47:37] um,
[00:47:38] make some big plays and come through.
[00:47:40] But yeah,
[00:47:40] that defense I'm with you,
[00:47:42] that line's around 11 and a half.
[00:47:43] I kind of,
[00:47:45] I kind of,
[00:47:46] I kind of be shocked if they don't cover.
[00:47:48] Yeah.
[00:47:49] I like Texas,
[00:47:49] especially at home in that one.
[00:47:51] Yeah.
[00:47:52] Yeah.
[00:47:52] I like them there.
[00:47:53] And the last game,
[00:47:54] last first round game,
[00:47:56] uh,
[00:47:56] the big one next Saturday night under the lights in the horseshoe,
[00:47:59] Tennessee,
[00:47:59] Ohio state.
[00:48:00] I think probably the best game of the first round matchups as it should be
[00:48:04] with the eight nine.
[00:48:05] Yeah.
[00:48:06] Yeah.
[00:48:06] As I mentioned last week,
[00:48:08] I think Tennessee got job.
[00:48:09] I think Tennessee should be hosting a home game.
[00:48:13] yeah.
[00:48:14] Now that was the,
[00:48:14] you talk about a rocking atmosphere.
[00:48:16] Yeah.
[00:48:17] Playoff game in Knoxville.
[00:48:18] Ooh.
[00:48:19] Um,
[00:48:20] and I think the Vols have the best chance of any of these road teams to go in and pull
[00:48:24] the upset and win on the road.
[00:48:26] Yeah.
[00:48:26] I think their defense is yeah.
[00:48:28] Outstanding defense,
[00:48:29] great running attack.
[00:48:30] And Nico has played really well the past month.
[00:48:34] Um,
[00:48:35] their,
[00:48:36] their,
[00:48:36] their passing game is starting to kind of come back in the.
[00:48:39] Right.
[00:48:40] It was better.
[00:48:41] Yeah.
[00:48:42] I mean,
[00:48:43] and that's the two of the,
[00:48:44] like everybody says,
[00:48:45] it's two of the biggest things to win on the road is good defense and good
[00:48:48] running game.
[00:48:48] And Tennessee had both.
[00:48:50] I mean,
[00:48:50] those are two of the biggest ingredients to win on the road.
[00:48:53] Of course,
[00:48:54] they're not going to be intimidated going to the horseshoe.
[00:48:56] I mean,
[00:48:56] they go over the sec.
[00:48:57] So I mean,
[00:48:58] that's not a big thing.
[00:48:59] You know,
[00:49:00] there was something about the weather,
[00:49:01] but Knoxville and exactly in the deep South.
[00:49:03] So,
[00:49:03] I mean,
[00:49:03] they have some cold days,
[00:49:04] so that won't be a factor.
[00:49:07] Um,
[00:49:07] I think it's just going to be a great game.
[00:49:09] Um,
[00:49:10] you know,
[00:49:10] the most interesting thing I think about this game is how does Ohio state
[00:49:15] respond from that Michigan loss?
[00:49:17] Yep.
[00:49:18] You know,
[00:49:18] it's,
[00:49:18] it's easy to say,
[00:49:19] it's a playoff game,
[00:49:20] but still to lose to your rival in that sense,
[00:49:23] after all the talk of that,
[00:49:24] you have to beat them and you still find a way to lose.
[00:49:27] How do they bounce back?
[00:49:29] Also,
[00:49:30] if things get dicey at the first of the game,
[00:49:35] that crowd,
[00:49:36] yeah,
[00:49:36] that crowd is going to be pissed.
[00:49:37] Yeah.
[00:49:38] And that's the one downfall of being at home,
[00:49:41] home,
[00:49:42] like a Penn state or Ohio state,
[00:49:44] things go dicey quick.
[00:49:46] That crowd's going to be pissed.
[00:49:48] Yeah.
[00:49:48] And then,
[00:49:48] you know,
[00:49:49] you talk about pressure and how much pressure is on Ryan day to deliver a
[00:49:53] win here.
[00:49:54] Cause maybe not the national title,
[00:49:56] although I,
[00:49:57] I would certainly think that he needs to,
[00:50:01] uh,
[00:50:01] at least make a run for it to calm the fan base down.
[00:50:07] Because honestly,
[00:50:09] you know,
[00:50:10] of course the,
[00:50:11] the,
[00:50:11] the,
[00:50:11] they wouldn't fire him.
[00:50:13] No,
[00:50:14] but something tells me if it ends quickly,
[00:50:16] he might just go because that's a,
[00:50:19] he was miserable this whole past year.
[00:50:22] Absolutely miserable.
[00:50:25] From the time they lost to Michigan on.
[00:50:28] And now they lost again.
[00:50:29] And if they have a quick exit out the playoff,
[00:50:32] I think he might leave just cause he's tired of the shit.
[00:50:35] Yeah.
[00:50:36] It's,
[00:50:36] you know,
[00:50:37] he,
[00:50:37] he says all the right things for him.
[00:50:39] Like they're,
[00:50:39] you know,
[00:50:40] he's happy and all that.
[00:50:41] And obviously he's at a great place to be a coach,
[00:50:43] but that fan base is that much against you.
[00:50:46] And you just cannot seem to get over the hump.
[00:50:49] You cannot.
[00:50:49] Yeah.
[00:50:50] I don't think he can afford,
[00:50:51] they might not fire him,
[00:50:53] but they'd make his life pretty tense next year.
[00:51:00] He's already had a tough,
[00:51:01] tough year after losing to Michigan last year.
[00:51:04] And this whole year,
[00:51:05] you know,
[00:51:05] it was about meeting Michigan.
[00:51:06] He didn't do it again.
[00:51:07] And,
[00:51:07] you know,
[00:51:08] you know,
[00:51:09] his family felt a lot of pressure too.
[00:51:10] You know,
[00:51:11] his kids are crying after the game.
[00:51:13] So yeah,
[00:51:14] but he definitely needs this win.
[00:51:17] But yeah,
[00:51:18] it's going to be interesting game.
[00:51:20] Um,
[00:51:21] cause honestly,
[00:51:25] for all the hype and all the stuff with Ohio state's offense,
[00:51:30] offense,
[00:51:31] especially the running game never was what it was supposed to be this year.
[00:51:34] It's kind of weird.
[00:51:36] No.
[00:51:37] Yeah.
[00:51:37] Well,
[00:51:37] when Sean Jenkins,
[00:51:38] that's a,
[00:51:38] you know,
[00:51:40] you thought it'd be an Inville Howard.
[00:51:42] Yeah.
[00:51:42] Like kind of running attack.
[00:51:43] They didn't really,
[00:51:45] we'll see.
[00:51:46] Maybe they,
[00:51:46] you know,
[00:51:47] rework some stuff for the playoffs.
[00:51:49] I don't know.
[00:51:50] I thought Chip Kelly was going to be more explosive in his first year.
[00:51:54] Yeah.
[00:51:54] And it just seems that he did not,
[00:51:56] you know,
[00:51:56] maybe it's a getting used to the system thing,
[00:51:58] but speaking of staying in Ohio real quick,
[00:52:02] uh,
[00:52:03] off the field story of sorts.
[00:52:05] And Ohio lawmaker has proposed a law to make it illegal to plant a flag at Ohio state.
[00:52:14] Like a felony?
[00:52:15] It's just soft,
[00:52:16] soft.
[00:52:18] Now the funny thing I saw,
[00:52:20] somebody went back and looked at us.
[00:52:22] Somebody,
[00:52:23] somebody said possibly it's a Michigan fan trolling because they've seen other posts where he's like a Detroit Lions fan and stuff.
[00:52:30] So I don't know.
[00:52:31] Huh?
[00:52:32] So that'd be extra funny.
[00:52:33] That would be hilarious.
[00:52:35] Yeah.
[00:52:36] If in fact he is,
[00:52:38] uh,
[00:52:39] Ohio state fan,
[00:52:40] like get,
[00:52:41] get the hell out of here.
[00:52:42] We,
[00:52:42] you gotta leave the fan base,
[00:52:43] bro.
[00:52:44] Get on.
[00:52:45] Yeah.
[00:52:46] That's embarrassing.
[00:52:47] If you are a citizen,
[00:52:49] Ohio and you're an Ohio state fan,
[00:52:51] as I mentioned,
[00:52:51] a lot of citizens of Ohio are,
[00:52:53] you gotta do what you write your local councilman,
[00:52:56] you know,
[00:52:56] your state representative and say,
[00:52:58] Oh no,
[00:52:59] man,
[00:52:59] we can't let this pass.
[00:53:01] Cause we're never going to hear the end of it.
[00:53:03] Uh,
[00:53:04] you go out and you win the damn game.
[00:53:06] That's how you stop a flag from getting planted on your field.
[00:53:10] You go out and you beat Michigan.
[00:53:12] Yeah,
[00:53:13] exactly.
[00:53:13] It's,
[00:53:13] you know,
[00:53:14] the old adage.
[00:53:14] What,
[00:53:15] what did Michael Irvin say?
[00:53:16] You know,
[00:53:16] used to talk about,
[00:53:17] you know,
[00:53:18] the people always wanted to flag and get mad at those hurricanes back in the
[00:53:22] day for dancing and celebrating.
[00:53:24] And he said,
[00:53:25] you know,
[00:53:25] you didn't want,
[00:53:26] you don't want us to celebrate.
[00:53:27] Don't let us score.
[00:53:28] yeah.
[00:53:29] Yeah.
[00:53:30] So that's how I look at it.
[00:53:32] I mean,
[00:53:34] it's disrespectful,
[00:53:35] but hell,
[00:53:36] I feel like this is,
[00:53:38] if you're,
[00:53:39] if you just beat a team,
[00:53:41] why not?
[00:53:42] I mean,
[00:53:43] especially in that type of rivalry situation.
[00:53:46] No,
[00:53:47] the only,
[00:53:47] the only thing that I think is dumb about the whole flag thing is you guys play on turf.
[00:53:52] The flag never sticks.
[00:53:56] Yeah.
[00:53:57] Nobody has grass,
[00:53:58] so it doesn't stick,
[00:53:59] but it's just very disrespectful.
[00:54:02] Yeah.
[00:54:02] I enjoy it.
[00:54:03] It's one of those weird football,
[00:54:04] yeah,
[00:54:04] I'm down.
[00:54:05] Yeah.
[00:54:05] I don't care.
[00:54:06] Yeah.
[00:54:06] Playing the flag,
[00:54:07] whatever.
[00:54:10] It's one of those weird football things where it's like a guy punching a guy with a helmet
[00:54:14] on.
[00:54:15] It's like,
[00:54:15] what are you doing,
[00:54:15] man?
[00:54:16] That's,
[00:54:18] yeah,
[00:54:18] I don't know why you're throwing punches to a guy with a helmet on or anywhere.
[00:54:21] Honestly,
[00:54:22] really,
[00:54:22] if you were in football pants,
[00:54:23] there's not a lot of,
[00:54:25] there's not covered.
[00:54:26] Yeah.
[00:54:26] Yeah.
[00:54:27] Maybe you can get some body shots into the belly.
[00:54:29] Yeah.
[00:54:29] Get some stomach shots and ribs.
[00:54:31] Yeah.
[00:54:31] But yeah,
[00:54:32] that's a,
[00:54:32] that,
[00:54:33] you know,
[00:54:33] yeah,
[00:54:33] it should be a fun first round first,
[00:54:35] you know,
[00:54:36] time of these playoff games on campus.
[00:54:37] Again,
[00:54:38] it is the official.
[00:54:39] I just want to see what the atmospheres,
[00:54:41] you know,
[00:54:41] what those atmospheres are going to be like.
[00:54:43] And,
[00:54:43] and hopefully they are good enough to see the next round be on campus as well.
[00:54:48] I want to see all,
[00:54:49] I want to see every round,
[00:54:50] but the title game,
[00:54:50] the first three rounds should all be on campus.
[00:54:54] Even the semis.
[00:54:56] Even the semis.
[00:54:57] Yeah.
[00:54:57] Even the semis should be on campus.
[00:54:59] Uh,
[00:55:00] the national title game is the only game that should be neutral.
[00:55:03] Make it,
[00:55:03] you know,
[00:55:04] make it a true playoff.
[00:55:05] Let,
[00:55:05] you know,
[00:55:06] let the teams that earn the high siege,
[00:55:07] you know,
[00:55:07] give them more reward.
[00:55:09] Cause we talked about the Superbowl.
[00:55:11] So basically the NFL.
[00:55:13] Yeah.
[00:55:13] Or any playoff system,
[00:55:15] you know,
[00:55:15] the,
[00:55:16] the top four teams don't even get a home game.
[00:55:18] That makes no sense.
[00:55:19] Yeah.
[00:55:20] And you know,
[00:55:21] people will say,
[00:55:22] well,
[00:55:22] what about the bowls?
[00:55:22] Well,
[00:55:23] again,
[00:55:23] if you've,
[00:55:24] you know,
[00:55:25] followed me or whatever for years now,
[00:55:27] I've been saying that the,
[00:55:28] the top bowls,
[00:55:29] the new year six,
[00:55:30] as it were,
[00:55:31] should go.
[00:55:31] They should start the season.
[00:55:33] Uh,
[00:55:33] they should be the week zero games.
[00:55:35] You can still have,
[00:55:36] you can go back to your conference affiliations and,
[00:55:39] you know,
[00:55:39] the sugar bowl sec champion from the previous season could play in the sugar bowl,
[00:55:43] et cetera.
[00:55:44] You know,
[00:55:44] the Rose bowl can get their big 10.
[00:55:46] Well,
[00:55:46] they can't get their big 10 packed in anymore.
[00:55:48] Cause they went and screwed that up.
[00:55:50] But,
[00:55:50] uh,
[00:55:51] I guess they can.
[00:55:52] Yeah.
[00:55:52] If the pack 12 gets,
[00:55:54] they need one more team.
[00:55:55] Right.
[00:55:56] They did almost there.
[00:55:57] Yeah.
[00:55:58] Yeah.
[00:55:59] It won't be quite the same,
[00:56:00] but yeah.
[00:56:01] But even if you,
[00:56:03] uh,
[00:56:04] but then the other thing,
[00:56:05] you know,
[00:56:07] obviously the,
[00:56:08] then people say,
[00:56:08] what about the bowls?
[00:56:10] But then at the same time,
[00:56:11] the same people will say,
[00:56:12] Oh,
[00:56:12] I'm not going to watch that bowl.
[00:56:13] That's stupid.
[00:56:14] Exactly.
[00:56:15] Yeah.
[00:56:15] You can't have it both ways.
[00:56:17] You can't pretend to care about the bowl games and not even act like you watch them.
[00:56:21] Like I don't watch them all,
[00:56:22] but you know,
[00:56:23] I enjoy it.
[00:56:24] You know,
[00:56:24] we're called football here.
[00:56:25] So we enjoy it.
[00:56:26] You know,
[00:56:26] I watch it,
[00:56:27] you know,
[00:56:28] midweek,
[00:56:28] you know,
[00:56:29] game that most people aren't looking at.
[00:56:31] And of course,
[00:56:32] we know it doesn't have the implications,
[00:56:34] but you know,
[00:56:35] for certain programs,
[00:56:36] you know,
[00:56:36] bowl season is important.
[00:56:37] You know,
[00:56:38] a team like your,
[00:56:39] like a Nebraska who hadn't been to both engines 2016.
[00:56:42] You can't tell me they're not excited for a bowl game.
[00:56:44] Exactly.
[00:56:45] Yeah.
[00:56:45] You can't say,
[00:56:46] you know,
[00:56:47] a team like,
[00:56:47] uh,
[00:56:48] I don't know.
[00:56:50] Well,
[00:56:51] some of these schools that get to,
[00:56:52] you know,
[00:56:52] get to go somewhere and play fun or maybe,
[00:56:55] you know,
[00:56:56] a school that gets to,
[00:56:57] you know,
[00:56:57] maybe a small,
[00:56:58] it gets a crack at a big conference school.
[00:57:01] Right.
[00:57:01] Or even a,
[00:57:02] you know,
[00:57:02] a,
[00:57:03] uh,
[00:57:03] you know,
[00:57:03] a team like Colorado who hadn't had much success in the last decade.
[00:57:07] I mean,
[00:57:08] they're going to a bowl game and they're all going to play.
[00:57:10] And the coaches,
[00:57:11] you know,
[00:57:12] coaches love bowl games because it gives them more practice time.
[00:57:15] More practice.
[00:57:16] Yeah.
[00:57:17] Or the other thing that you do,
[00:57:19] if,
[00:57:20] uh,
[00:57:20] you know,
[00:57:20] you have your bowl,
[00:57:21] you have your bowl games that,
[00:57:23] uh,
[00:57:23] you know,
[00:57:24] supposedly don't matter as much because it's not,
[00:57:26] it has no,
[00:57:27] uh,
[00:57:28] natural title implications.
[00:57:30] You know,
[00:57:31] I don't know if they have,
[00:57:32] you know,
[00:57:32] necessarily these ties anymore,
[00:57:35] get rid of all ties and just people,
[00:57:37] invite whoever they want to the bowl game.
[00:57:39] Yeah.
[00:57:40] Could do that.
[00:57:40] Yeah.
[00:57:42] Uh,
[00:57:43] me.
[00:57:43] Anyway,
[00:57:44] you know,
[00:57:44] there are some things to be worked out.
[00:57:46] I'm sure.
[00:57:47] Um,
[00:57:48] one last piece of college before we move on,
[00:57:51] of course,
[00:57:51] the Heisman trophy was awarded Saturday night.
[00:57:53] Travis Hunter got it as a lot of people thought he would,
[00:57:57] uh,
[00:57:58] not,
[00:58:00] I don't think it's a bad call.
[00:58:01] Uh,
[00:58:01] you know,
[00:58:02] Ashton Gentry had a lot of supporters.
[00:58:03] He even said himself,
[00:58:04] he felt like he should have,
[00:58:06] uh,
[00:58:07] walked away with the trophy and he should feel like that.
[00:58:10] Yeah.
[00:58:10] Uh,
[00:58:11] and I get it.
[00:58:12] Understand great season for him.
[00:58:14] I have no problem with Travis Hunter getting it.
[00:58:16] Cause it's not just a lot of people,
[00:58:18] you know,
[00:58:18] the haters out there,
[00:58:19] they're,
[00:58:19] they're kind of claiming like,
[00:58:20] Oh,
[00:58:21] he just got it because he plays a lot of downs or plays both ways.
[00:58:25] It's like,
[00:58:26] that's not the only reason got it.
[00:58:27] But excellent.
[00:58:29] Both ways.
[00:58:30] Yeah,
[00:58:30] exactly.
[00:58:30] He was,
[00:58:31] you know,
[00:58:31] one of the premier players that the Tysman trophy award is for the best player in the game.
[00:58:36] And we bitch about how it's up to month in the offensive award,
[00:58:39] or it's too often that quarterback award.
[00:58:42] And then we get a defensive player to get it.
[00:58:44] First one since Charles Woodson,
[00:58:45] 97 only second one ever.
[00:58:47] And all of a sudden we're bitching about it.
[00:58:49] Yeah.
[00:58:50] But he plays both ways.
[00:58:51] And I get it.
[00:58:52] I mean,
[00:58:53] it's more,
[00:58:54] I think it has to do more.
[00:58:55] People don't like prime and how he did things to Colorado.
[00:58:58] That's dumb to me.
[00:58:59] I don't have any problem with how he did things.
[00:59:01] It's different,
[00:59:02] but we're in a different world.
[00:59:04] And I mean,
[00:59:05] he didn't do anything disrespectfully.
[00:59:06] I mean,
[00:59:06] he just said,
[00:59:07] did things differently.
[00:59:08] I mean,
[00:59:09] I know people don't like it.
[00:59:10] He's flashy.
[00:59:11] You know,
[00:59:11] he's going to talk,
[00:59:13] but overall,
[00:59:13] I think he's a hell of a coach.
[00:59:15] I mean,
[00:59:15] we saw the transition from year one to year two of Colorado.
[00:59:18] I mean,
[00:59:19] change light years.
[00:59:20] I mean,
[00:59:20] it's a completely different team,
[00:59:21] so much better in year two.
[00:59:23] So obviously he's taking,
[00:59:24] he takes his job seriously.
[00:59:26] Um,
[00:59:28] but Travis Hunter,
[00:59:29] I mean,
[00:59:30] is exceptional.
[00:59:31] I mean,
[00:59:32] you got to think he played in a shitload of plays all season at a high level.
[00:59:40] Great.
[00:59:41] Defensively,
[00:59:42] great wide receiver.
[00:59:43] I mean,
[00:59:44] just a star on both ends.
[00:59:46] I mean,
[00:59:47] people were so excited about Charles Woodson.
[00:59:49] Charles Woodson couldn't touch Travis Hunter as far as those offensive plays.
[00:59:54] Oh no,
[00:59:54] absolutely.
[00:59:55] And Charles Woodson played offense,
[00:59:57] but he was primarily a punt returners where he made big plays like that.
[01:00:01] Travis Hunter had 92 catches over 1100 yards.
[01:00:04] And I forget how many touchdowns,
[01:00:05] but that is 92 catches in a college season is insane.
[01:00:10] Uh,
[01:00:10] it is,
[01:00:12] uh,
[01:00:13] you know,
[01:00:13] he was the fulcrum of that Colorado offense.
[01:00:16] You know,
[01:00:17] when he missed some time,
[01:00:18] they kind of stuttered it,
[01:00:19] you know,
[01:00:19] and then granted they had a bunch of other stars.
[01:00:21] You obviously should do a quarterback and a great receiving core there,
[01:00:25] but,
[01:00:26] uh,
[01:00:27] he absolutely earned it,
[01:00:31] uh,
[01:00:32] as his play with,
[01:00:34] uh,
[01:00:34] you know,
[01:00:34] as an offensive player,
[01:00:35] put up great numbers and then he's a lockdown corner,
[01:00:40] just an absolute lockdown.
[01:00:41] He had four interceptions and some people who was a lot,
[01:00:44] Hey,
[01:00:45] cornerbacks don't get a lot of interceptions.
[01:00:46] Yeah.
[01:00:47] When you're the reason why he's not,
[01:00:51] people are scared to throw that way.
[01:00:53] He shuts on the whole side of a field.
[01:00:56] It's epic.
[01:00:57] What he did this year,
[01:00:58] you know,
[01:00:59] it's just his whole career has been a story.
[01:01:01] I mean,
[01:01:02] uh,
[01:01:02] you know,
[01:01:03] to,
[01:01:03] to have enough faith and prime that you don't go to Florida state to go to
[01:01:09] Jackson state.
[01:01:10] I mean,
[01:01:10] that takes a lot of faith in itself.
[01:01:12] It's a difference in the,
[01:01:14] you know,
[01:01:14] money programs and then the go to Colorado and turn Colorado from a doormat.
[01:01:20] It's almost a playoff team in two years.
[01:01:23] I mean,
[01:01:23] it's just been an exceptional run.
[01:01:24] And the most interesting thing is just what the NFL does with them.
[01:01:28] You know,
[01:01:28] obviously I don't think it's a realistic,
[01:01:31] you can play both ways like that in the NFL,
[01:01:35] but we'll see.
[01:01:38] We'll see.
[01:01:40] You know,
[01:01:40] obviously you can,
[01:01:41] I mean,
[01:01:42] I think he's going to have to pick a primary thing,
[01:01:44] but you know,
[01:01:45] at some time,
[01:01:46] Hey,
[01:01:47] if you,
[01:01:47] you know,
[01:01:48] if you're a cornerback or two,
[01:01:49] get hurt,
[01:01:50] you know,
[01:01:51] pick them as a primary wide receiver,
[01:01:53] why not put them in there,
[01:01:54] you know,
[01:01:55] or,
[01:01:55] you know,
[01:01:57] throw some packages in for him.
[01:01:58] If he's considered primary,
[01:02:00] cornerback for whoever drafts him,
[01:02:02] should open up some plays for him.
[01:02:04] You know,
[01:02:05] he doesn't necessarily have to be your number one guy,
[01:02:07] but he has plenty,
[01:02:08] you know,
[01:02:09] he'll definitely be talented enough to give you some quality receiving plays.
[01:02:15] But I think that'd be the most interesting thing is just see what the NFL does with them.
[01:02:19] If they give them an opportunity to play both or if he's going to have to pick finally or,
[01:02:23] you know,
[01:02:23] we'll see.
[01:02:25] Yeah.
[01:02:25] And it seems like,
[01:02:26] yeah,
[01:02:26] that'll definitely be.
[01:02:27] And I think it's,
[01:02:28] it'll be hard because it seems that he can do both.
[01:02:33] Yeah.
[01:02:33] NFL.
[01:02:33] Well,
[01:02:34] NFL scouts are split on to what he would be better served at.
[01:02:37] Cause he has elite ball.
[01:02:38] As a,
[01:02:39] yeah,
[01:02:40] as a receiver.
[01:02:41] And like we said,
[01:02:41] he's a great lockdown corner,
[01:02:43] a tough guy,
[01:02:43] not afraid to make hits.
[01:02:45] He is definitely going to,
[01:02:46] yeah,
[01:02:47] it's going to be very interesting to watch that.
[01:02:52] But again,
[01:02:53] deserving.
[01:02:53] That was our point.
[01:02:54] Just very deserving of,
[01:02:56] very deserving of the title.
[01:02:58] Yeah.
[01:02:59] Of the award.
[01:03:00] Now I did.
[01:03:01] I put a question out there yesterday.
[01:03:03] I didn't get a lot of comments on it,
[01:03:05] but in today's world,
[01:03:07] you know,
[01:03:08] with NIL and really like you can go to New York anytime.
[01:03:11] If,
[01:03:12] if you were a,
[01:03:14] let's say a cam ward or something like that,
[01:03:17] and you didn't have a chance in hell of really winning the Heisman,
[01:03:19] you knew that going in,
[01:03:21] are you,
[01:03:21] would you still go there?
[01:03:22] I mean,
[01:03:22] I know it's an experience,
[01:03:24] but in,
[01:03:24] you know,
[01:03:25] you know,
[01:03:25] in the past,
[01:03:26] it was the man,
[01:03:27] maybe that's our first trip to New York city,
[01:03:28] living our life.
[01:03:29] But,
[01:03:29] but the NIL and everything,
[01:03:31] it seems like people go to New York whenever nowadays.
[01:03:33] I don't know,
[01:03:33] you know,
[01:03:34] at some point is someone might turn down a,
[01:03:36] um,
[01:03:37] Heisman,
[01:03:38] or is it just too big of an event?
[01:03:40] You're going to go regardless.
[01:03:41] I think it's probably too big an event.
[01:03:43] You just got your,
[01:03:44] you just go regardless and enjoy,
[01:03:46] enjoy what you can.
[01:03:48] Yeah,
[01:03:49] exactly.
[01:03:49] I think you just,
[01:03:52] do what you can and enjoy the limelight and meeting people and whatever else.
[01:04:00] Oh,
[01:04:03] that also that kind of,
[01:04:04] uh,
[01:04:06] just that meeting the other Heisman winners,
[01:04:08] maybe you'd never a little bit.
[01:04:09] Yeah.
[01:04:09] I think it's too,
[01:04:11] too big.
[01:04:12] Yeah.
[01:04:12] Yeah.
[01:04:13] One of those too big to ignore there,
[01:04:15] but let's move on real quick.
[01:04:18] Let's finish up.
[01:04:20] Uh,
[01:04:21] or let's move on at least to go to the NFL now.
[01:04:24] It's football season.
[01:04:25] Uh,
[01:04:25] some big games today.
[01:04:27] Uh,
[01:04:28] bills and lines,
[01:04:29] a big shootout there.
[01:04:30] The bills.
[01:04:32] It was a fun game,
[01:04:33] but man,
[01:04:34] it never really,
[01:04:35] the bills were never really in danger.
[01:04:38] Yeah.
[01:04:39] Lions fought back.
[01:04:39] But the biggest thing with the lions,
[01:04:41] man,
[01:04:42] dad,
[01:04:42] defensive health.
[01:04:43] That's tough.
[01:04:44] They have so many injuries.
[01:04:46] We've talked about,
[01:04:47] you know,
[01:04:47] or the bills,
[01:04:48] the best team league or the lions.
[01:04:49] Uh,
[01:04:50] we've,
[01:04:50] you know,
[01:04:51] kind of gone both ways.
[01:04:52] I think until the lines get healthy again,
[01:04:54] it's the bills.
[01:04:55] And I think Josh Allen probably wrapped up MVP.
[01:04:58] Man.
[01:04:59] He's yeah.
[01:05:00] Yeah.
[01:05:00] Barring just,
[01:05:01] you know,
[01:05:01] him doing absolutely nothing in the last few weeks and someone like
[01:05:04] Saquon or Lamar really going off.
[01:05:07] Um,
[01:05:08] see him falling off.
[01:05:09] You know,
[01:05:10] exactly.
[01:05:11] Yeah.
[01:05:11] It's,
[01:05:11] it's about more right now.
[01:05:13] It's about more Josh Allen falling off in the bills,
[01:05:15] losing a couple of games.
[01:05:16] Cause yeah.
[01:05:17] Cause you know,
[01:05:17] you know,
[01:05:18] you know,
[01:05:19] yeah.
[01:05:19] Lamar had a five touchdown game today,
[01:05:20] but you know,
[01:05:21] which will kind of probably help his odds back,
[01:05:24] move back a little bit.
[01:05:26] But,
[01:05:26] um,
[01:05:27] yeah,
[01:05:27] Josh Allen.
[01:05:29] Yeah.
[01:05:30] The other giants.
[01:05:30] Yeah.
[01:05:31] So yeah.
[01:05:31] Yeah.
[01:05:31] But,
[01:05:32] um,
[01:05:33] but still,
[01:05:34] still an impressive outing,
[01:05:35] but yeah,
[01:05:36] Josh Allen is putting up things.
[01:05:38] And the thing with Josh Allen this year is he's not making the mistakes.
[01:05:40] It just hurt him in the past.
[01:05:42] Yeah,
[01:05:43] no.
[01:05:43] And they're,
[01:05:44] they're playing,
[01:05:44] they tough.
[01:05:45] The defense is playing really well.
[01:05:47] You know,
[01:05:48] obviously today,
[01:05:49] not so much,
[01:05:50] but again,
[01:05:51] you know,
[01:05:51] they have the lead.
[01:05:52] So yeah,
[01:05:53] that lions,
[01:05:55] uh,
[01:05:55] that lions offense is explosive.
[01:05:58] Like don't,
[01:05:58] no one's going to be able to completely shut down that thing.
[01:06:01] No.
[01:06:02] Yeah.
[01:06:03] Yeah.
[01:06:04] So many weapons,
[01:06:05] but yeah,
[01:06:06] I mean,
[01:06:06] that was a fun,
[01:06:07] fun,
[01:06:07] fun game.
[01:06:08] I mean,
[01:06:08] if we,
[01:06:08] man,
[01:06:10] I would,
[01:06:10] I wouldn't mind seeing that as a Superbowl rematch in February.
[01:06:13] That would be fun.
[01:06:14] No.
[01:06:15] Yeah.
[01:06:15] That would be a very fun one.
[01:06:17] Um,
[01:06:18] and then the,
[01:06:18] the other,
[01:06:19] I guess some other big one pits or Pittsburgh.
[01:06:21] Yeah.
[01:06:21] And Philly played today.
[01:06:23] Eagles pretty easily.
[01:06:24] Won that one.
[01:06:26] Uh,
[01:06:26] now they're tied with the lions for the best record in the NFC.
[01:06:30] The lions have the tiebreaker right now based on conference,
[01:06:33] uh,
[01:06:34] winning percentage.
[01:06:34] So the lions would still be the one seed,
[01:06:37] but,
[01:06:38] uh,
[01:06:38] a big,
[01:06:38] big win for them.
[01:06:40] Uh,
[01:06:41] the Eagles there.
[01:06:42] Um,
[01:06:44] helps out the Ravens a little bit,
[01:06:45] I guess.
[01:06:46] Yeah.
[01:06:47] Right.
[01:06:47] For all the supposed animosity between Jalen hurts.
[01:06:50] And,
[01:06:51] um,
[01:06:52] I was,
[01:06:52] I mean,
[01:06:53] I,
[01:06:54] I mean,
[01:06:55] they should look good.
[01:06:55] They're winning games.
[01:06:56] They're winning games.
[01:06:57] Uh,
[01:06:58] I think,
[01:06:58] you know,
[01:06:59] and I don't think they're going to have the,
[01:07:00] obviously not going to have the meltdown that they had last year.
[01:07:03] Um,
[01:07:05] so that,
[01:07:05] you know,
[01:07:06] the top of the NFC is tough.
[01:07:08] I mean,
[01:07:08] you have,
[01:07:09] of course,
[01:07:10] you know,
[01:07:10] the lions,
[01:07:11] the,
[01:07:11] the Eagles,
[01:07:12] the Packers are right there,
[01:07:13] putting it on,
[01:07:14] uh,
[01:07:15] Seattle as we speak,
[01:07:16] um,
[01:07:16] and Seattle dominating,
[01:07:18] um,
[01:07:19] you know,
[01:07:19] they're playing good.
[01:07:20] Minnesota's right there,
[01:07:21] man.
[01:07:22] The NFC playoffs are going to be pretty elite.
[01:07:24] I think it's gonna be a hell of a fun.
[01:07:26] Yeah.
[01:07:27] You got a,
[01:07:27] you got a red hot Buccaneers team coming in.
[01:07:30] Wow.
[01:07:31] Yeah.
[01:07:31] The chargers today.
[01:07:33] Wow.
[01:07:33] Impressive.
[01:07:34] Went on the road.
[01:07:36] Just destroyed them.
[01:07:37] And,
[01:07:38] and not only that,
[01:07:39] that gives them what now they've won like past four games,
[01:07:43] two games.
[01:07:43] I thought they won like something like four.
[01:07:45] No,
[01:07:45] I always think about a two,
[01:07:46] two game lead over the Falcons.
[01:07:48] Oh yeah.
[01:07:49] No,
[01:07:49] they,
[01:07:49] yeah,
[01:07:49] they jumped the Falcons.
[01:07:50] The Falcons play tomorrow night,
[01:07:52] Monday night football.
[01:07:52] Yeah,
[01:07:52] but that's four wins in a row for the bucks now.
[01:07:55] And they're playing good.
[01:07:57] Yeah.
[01:07:58] Mike Evans is back healthy.
[01:07:59] Uh,
[01:08:00] Baker's playing really good.
[01:08:02] Uh,
[01:08:03] that's the thing.
[01:08:04] I bet you Cleveland,
[01:08:05] which they have never given up on,
[01:08:06] um,
[01:08:07] yeah.
[01:08:08] Uh,
[01:08:08] another ugly,
[01:08:10] ugly loss for the Browns today too.
[01:08:12] Um,
[01:08:13] yeah.
[01:08:15] Yeah.
[01:08:15] What else happened today?
[01:08:16] Let's see your Cowboys got a win over the Panthers.
[01:08:21] Uh,
[01:08:21] pretty easy one too.
[01:08:22] Um,
[01:08:23] yeah,
[01:08:23] I was kind of shocked how easy it actually went.
[01:08:26] Um,
[01:08:26] might be our last one of the season based on the rest of the schedule,
[01:08:29] but take what you can get.
[01:08:31] Talk about the Cowboys that,
[01:08:33] uh,
[01:08:33] last Monday night,
[01:08:35] that loss was so terrible.
[01:08:36] Oh yeah.
[01:08:38] with the,
[01:08:38] with the black,
[01:08:39] black,
[01:08:40] the,
[01:08:40] block the point and then have a very,
[01:08:43] uh,
[01:08:43] Leon let feel to it.
[01:08:45] Yeah.
[01:08:46] Oh man.
[01:08:48] It's a terrible way to lose.
[01:08:50] terrible way to lose.
[01:08:51] Yeah.
[01:08:51] Uh,
[01:08:51] let's see what else cheap cheese.
[01:08:53] Uh,
[01:08:53] one that we mentioned a Browns loss,
[01:08:55] but Patrick Holmes hurt and,
[01:08:57] uh,
[01:08:58] they're evaluated and see his little type.
[01:09:00] Yeah.
[01:09:00] An ankle injury.
[01:09:01] Those can always be tricky.
[01:09:04] that's a team boy.
[01:09:05] Pat doesn't play.
[01:09:06] They're in trouble.
[01:09:07] Yeah,
[01:09:08] exactly.
[01:09:09] He has some magic.
[01:09:11] And they pull out some stuff,
[01:09:13] but man,
[01:09:14] patting it.
[01:09:16] And now we've seen Pat hobbled at times and he's been elite even when hobbled,
[01:09:21] but man,
[01:09:22] but they're not playing.
[01:09:23] I mean,
[01:09:23] even before that,
[01:09:24] he was 19 of 38 for 159 yards today.
[01:09:27] That was not like,
[01:09:27] there's something,
[01:09:29] there's something off in Kansas city.
[01:09:31] I don't know what it is exactly the offense,
[01:09:33] but something definitely has not clicked all year.
[01:09:37] They keep winning games.
[01:09:38] Like you said.
[01:09:39] Yeah.
[01:09:39] They now find ways to win.
[01:09:41] Some of the greatest.
[01:09:43] Yeah.
[01:09:44] Still.
[01:09:45] Yeah.
[01:09:48] Despite the bills beating them.
[01:09:49] So,
[01:09:49] yeah,
[01:09:50] I mean,
[01:09:50] obviously at this point,
[01:09:51] everything's still going through arrowhead and you know,
[01:09:53] that not many people win there and it's going to probably cold as shit in
[01:09:57] January.
[01:09:59] And that's a tough atmosphere to win.
[01:10:01] And they get loud.
[01:10:03] That brings,
[01:10:05] speaking of,
[01:10:05] yeah.
[01:10:06] So the Steelers lost to the Eagles.
[01:10:07] That brings them down,
[01:10:08] uh,
[01:10:10] to 10 and four.
[01:10:11] Uh,
[01:10:12] and of course another big one matchup.
[01:10:14] They go to Baltimore next Sunday.
[01:10:15] So huge one there for the AFC North,
[01:10:18] um,
[01:10:19] Houston good win today over Miami.
[01:10:22] Yeah.
[01:10:22] Uh,
[01:10:23] they really shut down.
[01:10:25] They did.
[01:10:25] Dolphins offense to,
[01:10:27] um,
[01:10:28] three picks today for two.
[01:10:31] uh,
[01:10:31] they've been rolling a little bit.
[01:10:33] Yeah,
[01:10:33] no,
[01:10:34] Miami was hot.
[01:10:34] Trying to fight for that last playoff.
[01:10:38] then that,
[01:10:39] uh,
[01:10:39] the Chargers lost.
[01:10:40] It keeps them in the conversation.
[01:10:42] Now that was a bad loss to the Chargers today.
[01:10:44] Cause that along with the Broncos win over the Colts.
[01:10:49] Now the Broncos have jumped into the sixth seed in the AFC.
[01:10:53] The Chargers fell to seven,
[01:10:55] but they still have a two game lead over the Colts and dolphins and Bengals.
[01:11:01] Uh,
[01:11:01] Bengals also got a win today.
[01:11:03] Yeah.
[01:11:04] we mentioned the NFC Seattle right now has the third seed.
[01:11:08] I'm not sure what tiebreakers they would have once they,
[01:11:10] if they,
[01:11:10] once they,
[01:11:10] it looks like they'll lose tonight.
[01:11:12] Um,
[01:11:14] they'd be tied on the record with the Buccaneers.
[01:11:16] Uh,
[01:11:17] of course the Vikings play tomorrow night.
[01:11:21] Um,
[01:11:23] they play the bears tomorrow night.
[01:11:24] Yeah.
[01:11:25] Monday night football.
[01:11:25] Yeah.
[01:11:25] The bears,
[01:11:26] as they try to keep pace with,
[01:11:29] uh,
[01:11:29] Detroit and this would move green Bay to 10 wins.
[01:11:33] Commanders got a win today to keep a hold on that last spot.
[01:11:37] Seven seed.
[01:11:38] Thanks one for the two.
[01:11:40] Yeah.
[01:11:41] Oh,
[01:11:41] man.
[01:11:44] And the Rams won Thursday night in a,
[01:11:47] uh,
[01:11:49] a game of football that was played.
[01:11:51] Yeah.
[01:11:52] Man,
[01:11:53] that was an ugly game.
[01:11:55] Wow.
[01:11:55] It was indeed.
[01:11:56] Uh,
[01:11:56] four field goals was enough though.
[01:11:59] Um,
[01:12:00] you would have to think that that,
[01:12:03] I think we're kind of the end of the year for the 49ers.
[01:12:06] I mean,
[01:12:06] they could jump back,
[01:12:07] but I think that window,
[01:12:08] them being super bowl contenders kind of shut.
[01:12:10] Yeah.
[01:12:11] I think the,
[01:12:11] that front office has a lot of decisions to make this off season to try to
[01:12:15] rework that roster.
[01:12:16] And if,
[01:12:17] you know,
[01:12:18] I don't think that they're complete blow up stage,
[01:12:21] but they definitely need to start rebuilding a little bit.
[01:12:25] Yeah.
[01:12:25] To,
[01:12:26] I mean,
[01:12:27] build the team around Brock Purdy and,
[01:12:29] and some,
[01:12:30] but obviously sadly seems like,
[01:12:34] um,
[01:12:35] and just our injuries.
[01:12:36] I mean,
[01:12:37] yeah,
[01:12:38] it was just,
[01:12:38] yeah.
[01:12:39] The team that couldn't get healthy,
[01:12:40] just cursed by injuries.
[01:12:41] Really?
[01:12:42] Yeah.
[01:12:42] See,
[01:12:43] man,
[01:12:43] I mean,
[01:12:43] you would think his career might be close to being done just cause he
[01:12:47] can't stay healthy.
[01:12:49] Yeah.
[01:12:49] He can't stay healthy.
[01:12:50] And he has the worst injuries.
[01:12:52] There's always leg injuries.
[01:12:53] And there's a running back.
[01:12:54] That's the worst type of injury you can have.
[01:12:57] Yeah.
[01:12:57] So,
[01:12:59] so yeah,
[01:13:00] that's,
[01:13:00] um,
[01:13:00] did you see the,
[01:13:02] from the,
[01:13:02] the,
[01:13:03] talking about the Thursday night game,
[01:13:04] the dude did quit in the third quarter.
[01:13:06] I did.
[01:13:07] Yeah.
[01:13:08] the 49ers linebacker,
[01:13:10] he just apparently,
[01:13:11] you know,
[01:13:11] we're blanking on this.
[01:13:13] He didn't want to come in,
[01:13:14] but he was signed in the off season to kind of be a placeholder for a
[01:13:17] green law.
[01:13:18] The guy who got injured in the super bowl,
[01:13:21] of course,
[01:13:21] you know,
[01:13:22] terrible injury there.
[01:13:23] Um,
[01:13:25] uh,
[01:13:26] Campbell,
[01:13:26] that's his last name.
[01:13:28] And green law came back,
[01:13:29] got the start this week and,
[01:13:31] you know,
[01:13:32] was having a little soreness.
[01:13:33] So they,
[01:13:33] Devondra Campbell,
[01:13:34] they wanted him to go in,
[01:13:36] uh,
[01:13:36] to play.
[01:13:37] And he just refused.
[01:13:40] And he's going to lose.
[01:13:41] He's going to lose his job.
[01:13:42] And that's,
[01:13:43] there's not really defense for it.
[01:13:44] You're a grown man.
[01:13:45] You know,
[01:13:45] the deal when they signed you,
[01:13:46] I'm sure they told you.
[01:13:48] And it's just weird.
[01:13:50] The thing is,
[01:13:51] is that's going to kill his other chances.
[01:13:52] And I feel it's one thing.
[01:13:54] Exactly.
[01:13:54] He pissed off behind the scenes and move on to a different team.
[01:13:57] But 31 other teams saw that you quit.
[01:14:02] Yeah.
[01:14:02] Just absolutely refused to play.
[01:14:05] Um,
[01:14:07] and,
[01:14:07] um,
[01:14:07] he's not going to have too many people on his side at all.
[01:14:10] Yeah.
[01:14:11] Yeah.
[01:14:13] And they were,
[01:14:14] um,
[01:14:16] a lot of angry,
[01:14:17] uh,
[01:14:19] a lot of people were pissed.
[01:14:20] Uh,
[01:14:21] teammates of his.
[01:14:22] Yeah.
[01:14:22] So
[01:14:23] not a good look.
[01:14:25] That's just,
[01:14:26] That was pretty funny.
[01:14:27] That was pretty funny.
[01:14:30] And so Dandre for the 49ers.
[01:14:32] Boy.
[01:14:33] Yeah.
[01:14:36] Um,
[01:14:37] but yeah,
[01:14:37] that,
[01:14:37] uh,
[01:14:38] that's probably do it for football for the,
[01:14:41] this episode.
[01:14:43] Moving real quick to Bama hoops.
[01:14:45] Got a good win.
[01:14:46] Finally knocked off Creighton,
[01:14:48] the blue Jays.
[01:14:49] Yeah.
[01:14:50] I mean,
[01:14:50] it was a solid win.
[01:14:51] Um,
[01:14:51] you know,
[01:14:52] Mark Sears had a good game.
[01:14:53] Um,
[01:14:55] yeah,
[01:14:56] we,
[01:14:56] uh,
[01:14:57] I'm the business.
[01:14:58] Got a little closer.
[01:14:59] Maybe we should have at times,
[01:15:00] but you know,
[01:15:01] we never let them cut fully in there.
[01:15:03] So I think we had to leave the whole game.
[01:15:05] So,
[01:15:06] I mean,
[01:15:06] that was a good win.
[01:15:07] I mean,
[01:15:08] Creighton had been up and down a little bit themselves,
[01:15:10] but I mean,
[01:15:10] they did beat Kansas.
[01:15:12] So,
[01:15:12] I mean,
[01:15:12] they're obviously not a decent team.
[01:15:15] And,
[01:15:15] you know,
[01:15:16] after three straight losses,
[01:15:17] it was good to get past them there.
[01:15:19] Um,
[01:15:20] but you know,
[01:15:20] they're just,
[01:15:21] uh,
[01:15:21] when you look at it,
[01:15:22] I mean,
[01:15:23] these are games that last year,
[01:15:24] this team all lost.
[01:15:26] And this year we're winning a lot of those games.
[01:15:28] Yeah.
[01:15:29] So it's a good sign.
[01:15:30] And those young guys are getting a lot of minutes.
[01:15:33] Uh,
[01:15:34] uh,
[01:15:34] LeBaron fill on just looks like the real deal each and every game.
[01:15:38] That's a good plan.
[01:15:39] I think he might be,
[01:15:40] um,
[01:15:41] we're going to have to enjoy him because I don't think he's going to be there
[01:15:44] after this year.
[01:15:45] That's going to be,
[01:15:46] yeah.
[01:15:47] Uh,
[01:15:47] uh,
[01:15:47] enjoy this roster while we can.
[01:15:49] It might not be together long,
[01:15:50] but now that,
[01:15:52] you know,
[01:15:52] after that just brutal stretch of games,
[01:15:54] which,
[01:15:54] Hey,
[01:15:56] can't argue with a five and two record in game where every team is either
[01:16:01] ranked or on the cusp of.
[01:16:03] Yeah.
[01:16:04] I don't know.
[01:16:05] Yeah.
[01:16:05] Some good wins,
[01:16:06] you know,
[01:16:06] uh,
[01:16:07] you know,
[01:16:07] of course beat Illinois,
[01:16:08] Houston records and on the road at North Carolina and the Creighton game,
[01:16:12] you know,
[01:16:12] tough loss in the Oregon in that tournament final and tough loss on the road to
[01:16:16] Purdue and just a really tough place to play.
[01:16:19] And they're a hot team.
[01:16:20] They're a hot team.
[01:16:21] And they're,
[01:16:22] Purdue's a lead at home.
[01:16:23] Yeah.
[01:16:24] I mean,
[01:16:24] so I mean,
[01:16:25] it's not a terrible loss by any means.
[01:16:27] No,
[01:16:28] but,
[01:16:28] now an easy stretch,
[01:16:30] uh,
[01:16:30] easier,
[01:16:30] it should say,
[01:16:31] you know,
[01:16:31] they go to North Dakota.
[01:16:33] This was that Wednesday.
[01:16:35] Yeah.
[01:16:37] Kent stayed at home next Sunday and then South Dakota state before SEC play.
[01:16:43] Yeah.
[01:16:45] Yeah.
[01:16:46] Hell of a start.
[01:16:47] I mean,
[01:16:48] you know,
[01:16:48] again,
[01:16:48] I think was at the third or third straight year of having the toughest,
[01:16:52] uh,
[01:16:52] schedule.
[01:16:53] Um,
[01:16:56] and we saw pay dividends last year.
[01:16:58] So,
[01:16:58] you know,
[01:16:58] pay dividends.
[01:16:59] And this year,
[01:17:00] I'm assuming we'll pay dividends again this year.
[01:17:03] Not only that,
[01:17:04] but we got some good wins along the way.
[01:17:06] So that's even better.
[01:17:07] But man,
[01:17:08] this sec boy,
[01:17:10] this sec is stacked.
[01:17:12] Yeah.
[01:17:12] This is going to be one hell of a,
[01:17:15] uh,
[01:17:16] great.
[01:17:17] Tennessee sending number one in the country undefeated.
[01:17:19] They got the big win on the road yesterday in Champaign,
[01:17:23] you know,
[01:17:24] so they're going to be a great team.
[01:17:26] I mean,
[01:17:26] Kentucky has had some great wins.
[01:17:29] I mean,
[01:17:29] they went to Gonzaga last week,
[01:17:32] you know,
[01:17:32] beat Louisville yesterday.
[01:17:33] Louisville looked a little better.
[01:17:34] So I'm going to be interested in how they bounce back.
[01:17:37] So that game was a little better than what it has been for a little bit.
[01:17:40] Um,
[01:17:41] but yeah,
[01:17:41] I mean,
[01:17:41] the sec is just stacked with good,
[01:17:45] great teams.
[01:17:46] I mean,
[01:17:47] right now,
[01:17:48] crazy enough,
[01:17:48] the best conference in basketball.
[01:17:51] Yeah,
[01:17:51] no.
[01:17:52] And,
[01:17:52] and yeah,
[01:17:53] I don't even think it's a question.
[01:17:54] Yeah.
[01:17:54] We talked about the ACC sec challenge last week.
[01:17:57] It's not a question.
[01:17:58] Dominance.
[01:17:59] Dominance.
[01:18:00] I mean,
[01:18:00] and then you look at it.
[01:18:01] I mean,
[01:18:02] I mean,
[01:18:03] the,
[01:18:03] the hogs have been up and down,
[01:18:05] but I mean,
[01:18:05] there's,
[01:18:06] there's,
[01:18:06] you know,
[01:18:07] Calipari is always going to be tough.
[01:18:09] You know,
[01:18:10] Florida's having a good start to the year.
[01:18:13] Both Mississippi schools have started off pretty good.
[01:18:15] I mean,
[01:18:16] yeah,
[01:18:17] this,
[01:18:17] yeah,
[01:18:18] the sec,
[01:18:19] it's going to be no games off.
[01:18:20] I mean,
[01:18:21] you're going to have to come ready to go.
[01:18:23] Um,
[01:18:23] Missouri started off the season pretty well.
[01:18:26] Um,
[01:18:28] yeah,
[01:18:28] it's going to be tough.
[01:18:29] No,
[01:18:30] it's going to be fun.
[01:18:31] We'll be ready.
[01:18:33] Yeah.
[01:18:33] I think I mentioned it last week,
[01:18:35] but,
[01:18:35] uh,
[01:18:36] let me find it again.
[01:18:37] I'm pretty sure there is not a single,
[01:18:40] there's not a single sec school with a losing record.
[01:18:43] Uh,
[01:18:44] the worst,
[01:18:45] the worst record in the sec right now,
[01:18:47] South Carolina at seven and three.
[01:18:49] So,
[01:18:49] uh,
[01:18:50] yeah,
[01:18:51] that's,
[01:18:51] uh,
[01:18:53] exactly.
[01:18:54] It'd be tough.
[01:18:55] Uh,
[01:18:55] in other college hoops news,
[01:18:57] um,
[01:18:59] off the court news,
[01:19:01] a big surprise this week.
[01:19:03] One of the top prospects in the country,
[01:19:05] um,
[01:19:06] you get his name,
[01:19:07] right?
[01:19:07] AJ,
[01:19:08] and is it Dabansta?
[01:19:10] Dabansta?
[01:19:11] I'm not really sure how he pronounces it,
[01:19:13] but,
[01:19:13] uh,
[01:19:14] a guy that's projected to maybe be the number one pick in next year's draft.
[01:19:18] The 2026,
[01:19:20] uh,
[01:19:21] chose BYU.
[01:19:22] Yeah.
[01:19:23] beat out Alabama,
[01:19:25] UNC,
[01:19:25] and Kansas.
[01:19:26] just,
[01:19:27] uh,
[01:19:28] amazing gift for the Cougars.
[01:19:31] and they,
[01:19:32] uh,
[01:19:33] I mean,
[01:19:35] he's already goes,
[01:19:36] I guess,
[01:19:37] a prep school out there.
[01:19:38] So,
[01:19:38] I mean,
[01:19:38] maybe they had the head and leg up on it.
[01:19:40] Sounded like he got quite,
[01:19:42] quite a lot of money to go to BYU though.
[01:19:44] I was like $5 million.
[01:19:46] If that's true or not,
[01:19:47] who knows?
[01:19:47] But,
[01:19:49] you'd have to think though,
[01:19:50] the event,
[01:19:50] you'd have to get pretty good money to pick that over those basketball powerhouses no matter what.
[01:19:56] Yeah.
[01:19:57] And he,
[01:19:57] um,
[01:19:58] that,
[01:19:59] you know,
[01:19:59] he come out and what he said is,
[01:20:01] you know,
[01:20:01] there's a big NBA,
[01:20:02] uh,
[01:20:03] kind of infrastructure at BYU.
[01:20:05] A lot of former NBA coaches and stuff now in that program.
[01:20:10] So,
[01:20:10] but yeah,
[01:20:11] it's kind of surprising,
[01:20:12] a big gift for.
[01:20:13] Big gift.
[01:20:14] Huge gift for the Cougars.
[01:20:16] Yeah.
[01:20:16] He was in that.
[01:20:17] he was in the house for,
[01:20:19] yeah,
[01:20:20] he was in the house.
[01:20:21] And UNC for Alabama's big win there at Chapel Hill,
[01:20:24] but wasn't enough for the tide to snatch them.
[01:20:28] But,
[01:20:29] uh,
[01:20:29] uh,
[01:20:31] nonetheless,
[01:20:31] just,
[01:20:31] uh,
[01:20:31] you know,
[01:20:32] interesting bit of news there.
[01:20:33] Um,
[01:20:35] as far as that goes,
[01:20:36] but yeah,
[01:20:37] um,
[01:20:39] other than that,
[01:20:40] you know,
[01:20:40] it's all the notes I have.
[01:20:41] Of course,
[01:20:41] last week we talked about,
[01:20:42] you know,
[01:20:43] we broke the news to you that,
[01:20:45] Juan Soto is with the Mets.
[01:20:47] Uh,
[01:20:49] exactly.
[01:20:50] Um,
[01:20:51] not much,
[01:20:52] you know,
[01:20:52] there's been a few signings this week,
[01:20:54] but nothing too huge.
[01:20:55] Kyle Tucker did get traded from the,
[01:20:58] the,
[01:20:59] uh,
[01:21:00] I guess your big one,
[01:21:01] your couple of biggest off the,
[01:21:02] you know,
[01:21:02] your signings this week,
[01:21:04] Kyle Tucker traded from the Astros to the Cubs.
[01:21:07] That was a pretty big one.
[01:21:08] Then your Yanks,
[01:21:09] uh,
[01:21:10] Max Freed,
[01:21:11] big signing for them.
[01:21:12] That was a big signing.
[01:21:13] I like it.
[01:21:14] Yeah.
[01:21:14] Mm-hmm.
[01:21:15] Um,
[01:21:16] happy for him to get paid.
[01:21:18] Hate that he went to your Yanks,
[01:21:19] but I guess at least he's not in the,
[01:21:22] uh,
[01:21:22] the NL East or anywhere in the NL to torture the Braves.
[01:21:26] Exactly.
[01:21:28] Yeah.
[01:21:28] So happy for him to get paid,
[01:21:30] you know,
[01:21:30] eight year,
[01:21:30] $218 million deal.
[01:21:32] Huge money.
[01:21:33] Yeah.
[01:21:34] Yeah.
[01:21:35] Um,
[01:21:36] Nathan Ovalde returned to the Rangers.
[01:21:39] Um,
[01:21:42] other than that,
[01:21:43] you know,
[01:21:43] still waiting some,
[01:21:44] you know,
[01:21:44] the athletics making a few signings here and there,
[01:21:47] but those are the big ones.
[01:21:48] Um,
[01:21:49] nothing too big.
[01:21:51] Yeah.
[01:21:51] Yeah.
[01:21:53] But,
[01:21:53] uh,
[01:21:53] other than that,
[01:21:54] do you have anything in sports world you want to touch on before we go?
[01:21:57] No,
[01:21:57] I think,
[01:21:58] you know,
[01:21:59] it's just,
[01:21:59] it's just interesting.
[01:22:00] All this,
[01:22:01] uh,
[01:22:02] you know,
[01:22:02] just,
[01:22:02] uh,
[01:22:03] college,
[01:22:03] I,
[01:22:04] the coaching carousel was more interesting than I thought.
[01:22:07] I,
[01:22:07] you know,
[01:22:08] Belichick.
[01:22:09] So that was fun.
[01:22:09] Um,
[01:22:10] and just to see where all these other transfer players go be interesting.
[01:22:15] I think we'll see a lot more names go this week.
[01:22:18] Yeah.
[01:22:19] I think,
[01:22:19] uh,
[01:22:20] hopefully,
[01:22:21] you know,
[01:22:21] for Alabama fans,
[01:22:22] hopefully we don't see any more big names hop in and hopefully we grab a
[01:22:26] couple of these,
[01:22:27] uh,
[01:22:27] bigger names out there,
[01:22:28] depending on what we need.
[01:22:29] I'm very interested to see,
[01:22:31] especially,
[01:22:31] you know,
[01:22:31] we mentioned the,
[01:22:32] the no row situation is,
[01:22:34] this is indeed his last game.
[01:22:36] What are planned for next year?
[01:22:37] Obviously we have Keelan Russell coming in just a big time,
[01:22:40] five star QB.
[01:22:42] That's crazy.
[01:22:42] They actually lost our,
[01:22:43] uh,
[01:22:44] state title game.
[01:22:45] It was a shot,
[01:22:45] you know,
[01:22:45] they did.
[01:22:46] They really,
[01:22:46] uh,
[01:22:47] they lost.
[01:22:48] Yeah.
[01:22:49] It was a good game.
[01:22:50] I mean,
[01:22:50] it was,
[01:22:51] I mean,
[01:22:51] it was two of the best teams in the state,
[01:22:52] but yeah,
[01:22:54] but yeah,
[01:22:54] it'll be interesting because I mean,
[01:22:56] yeah,
[01:22:57] do you want to go with the experience with Ty Simpson or do you want to go ahead
[01:23:02] and run with the new guy and just let them go or,
[01:23:04] you know,
[01:23:05] are we in the market?
[01:23:06] Yeah.
[01:23:07] Are we in the market for some transfer?
[01:23:09] One of these transfer guys we don't know about.
[01:23:12] yeah.
[01:23:13] Is there going to be another big name to hop into port at some point?
[01:23:17] Yeah.
[01:23:17] Who knows?
[01:23:18] Who knows what we do?
[01:23:20] Um,
[01:23:21] you know,
[01:23:21] I,
[01:23:22] I personally,
[01:23:23] I mean,
[01:23:23] I like,
[01:23:26] I don't know.
[01:23:28] Maybe I'm still old school in the fact.
[01:23:29] I still like,
[01:23:30] uh,
[01:23:30] some consistency,
[01:23:31] somebody that's,
[01:23:34] you know,
[01:23:35] built within the program,
[01:23:36] you know,
[01:23:37] someone has either been there or someone that we brought in.
[01:23:39] We think that's possibly our next guy,
[01:23:41] like Keelan.
[01:23:42] Um,
[01:23:43] you know,
[01:23:44] my own term,
[01:23:45] I would like to see someone under center two or three years rather than
[01:23:48] switch out every year.
[01:23:49] So hopefully we don't get to that.
[01:23:50] Yeah.
[01:23:51] It'd be interesting if we bring anybody to spice up the battle or,
[01:23:55] you know,
[01:23:55] if we have,
[01:23:56] you know,
[01:23:57] what,
[01:23:57] what happens with that,
[01:23:58] but,
[01:23:59] you know,
[01:24:01] I,
[01:24:01] I really don't know what,
[01:24:03] you know,
[01:24:03] what the,
[01:24:04] I don't think anybody really knows,
[01:24:05] you know,
[01:24:06] what the offensive really look like,
[01:24:08] you know,
[01:24:08] if we have a new,
[01:24:10] if we,
[01:24:11] you know,
[01:24:11] without Jalen,
[01:24:12] I mean,
[01:24:12] that changes how the quarterback plays.
[01:24:14] That'll change some of the running.
[01:24:16] Um,
[01:24:17] and you know,
[01:24:18] we'll see what that does with the passing game.
[01:24:20] On top of that too,
[01:24:21] though,
[01:24:22] if we were to ask him out of the transfer portal,
[01:24:24] does that push somebody else out?
[01:24:25] You know,
[01:24:25] would Ty get pissed and leave or,
[01:24:27] you know,
[01:24:27] who knows?
[01:24:29] Yeah.
[01:24:29] Right.
[01:24:29] Or would that signify that maybe,
[01:24:32] uh,
[01:24:33] you know,
[01:24:34] the kids get red shirted next year or something?
[01:24:36] Yeah.
[01:24:36] Like,
[01:24:37] I don't know.
[01:24:40] Yeah.
[01:24:41] I'm real interested to see,
[01:24:42] but yeah,
[01:24:42] that's,
[01:24:43] uh,
[01:24:43] that's,
[01:24:43] you know,
[01:24:44] the world we live in.
[01:24:44] That's what we're looking forward to now is all this player movement.
[01:24:48] And then of course the first round games,
[01:24:50] you know,
[01:24:50] when we come and talk to y'all next week,
[01:24:52] uh,
[01:24:53] we'll have some,
[01:24:54] we'll have playoff games.
[01:24:55] Yeah.
[01:24:56] And for,
[01:24:57] for,
[01:24:57] for games to talk about,
[01:24:59] we'll see if we have any surprises or,
[01:25:01] you know,
[01:25:01] what,
[01:25:02] what we have,
[01:25:03] you know,
[01:25:03] my main thing is,
[01:25:05] I guess with the playoff,
[01:25:06] one more thing.
[01:25:07] I just,
[01:25:08] I just don't want to see the little guys get blown out.
[01:25:12] Yeah,
[01:25:12] no,
[01:25:12] let's see some,
[01:25:13] cause I,
[01:25:13] I hate the,
[01:25:16] I hate the,
[01:25:17] look,
[01:25:17] see,
[01:25:18] they shouldn't even been invited to the playoff.
[01:25:19] They got blown out.
[01:25:20] I,
[01:25:21] I can't stand the people to think like that.
[01:25:26] Cause you know,
[01:25:27] and of course,
[01:25:28] you know,
[01:25:29] our fan base is bad at that.
[01:25:30] Some of our fan base is terrible at stuff like that.
[01:25:33] Yeah.
[01:25:34] No,
[01:25:34] there's a lot,
[01:25:35] you know,
[01:25:35] I've posted some stuff this week where,
[01:25:38] you know,
[01:25:39] talking about,
[01:25:40] you know,
[01:25:40] my thing,
[01:25:40] like,
[01:25:41] look,
[01:25:41] if you,
[01:25:41] if you want to,
[01:25:42] if you really want to make this fair,
[01:25:44] whatever you do,
[01:25:45] every conference champion gets a bid and you expand to 16 or whatever.
[01:25:50] And so there's plenty of that large bids for the big conferences,
[01:25:53] you know,
[01:25:54] I mean,
[01:25:57] cause I'm tired of the shit.
[01:25:58] I mean,
[01:25:58] there's just a,
[01:25:59] a new story.
[01:26:00] I saw where the NCAA thinks that they might expand the basketball tournament to 70
[01:26:04] some teams.
[01:26:05] No,
[01:26:06] like all because I saw that.
[01:26:08] Yeah.
[01:26:09] It's all because guys like Greg Sankey and the big 10 commission,
[01:26:12] they bitch and moan.
[01:26:13] They want more of their guys in there.
[01:26:14] And it's the money.
[01:26:15] It's all about money.
[01:26:17] I get plenty of basketball.
[01:26:19] Please stop.
[01:26:20] Please stop.
[01:26:20] The big 10 and the SEC get like half the conference up and get,
[01:26:23] I think the SEC might get like 10 teams in.
[01:26:26] That's plenty.
[01:26:28] Yeah.
[01:26:28] Maybe more.
[01:26:29] Maybe 12.
[01:26:31] Like it's plenty.
[01:26:32] The basketball sick.
[01:26:34] I thought it was ridiculous.
[01:26:35] We moved to six state,
[01:26:36] honestly,
[01:26:37] but let's leave it there.
[01:26:39] I guess the NCAA tournament is not broken.
[01:26:43] Leave it alone.
[01:26:44] Exactly.
[01:26:45] Yeah,
[01:26:45] that is.
[01:26:45] It is not like the,
[01:26:47] you know,
[01:26:48] college football changes is understandable.
[01:26:51] The BCS was not the answer.
[01:26:53] You know,
[01:26:53] the old bowl system was not the answer.
[01:26:55] The 14 playoff had its pluses.
[01:26:58] It had its minuses.
[01:26:59] it was a start at something,
[01:27:01] but of course they've expanded it to make it more,
[01:27:06] you know,
[01:27:07] bigger nationals.
[01:27:08] And they've done a hell of a job.
[01:27:10] I mean,
[01:27:10] I feel like nationally,
[01:27:12] the college football has never been hotter than what it has been this year.
[01:27:15] Teams,
[01:27:16] you know,
[01:27:16] people that may not necessarily give a shit about college football past a certain point
[01:27:21] have been much more interested because it's not your same four teams.
[01:27:24] And I think when people are appreciating it,
[01:27:26] that it has more of the NFL feel to it as far as,
[01:27:29] you know,
[01:27:30] open up to a lot more teams.
[01:27:32] And I like that.
[01:27:33] I think,
[01:27:33] I think the average fan likes that too.
[01:27:36] Of course,
[01:27:37] you know,
[01:27:37] you're going to have your homers that hate it,
[01:27:39] but you know,
[01:27:41] they'll get over it.
[01:27:42] Um,
[01:27:43] um,
[01:27:44] but yeah,
[01:27:44] I just think,
[01:27:45] you know,
[01:27:45] I just want the little guys to do well.
[01:27:47] Um,
[01:27:48] at least,
[01:27:49] uh,
[01:27:49] pull off one upset or at least be competitive so we can.
[01:27:53] Yeah.
[01:27:53] But just,
[01:27:55] you know,
[01:27:55] the NCAA tournament basketball,
[01:27:57] please don't ever change that number again.
[01:27:59] It's good where it's at.
[01:28:00] If you can't get in as one of the 68,
[01:28:03] you don't need to be there.
[01:28:05] Yeah.
[01:28:06] Um,
[01:28:07] yeah,
[01:28:07] it's ridiculous.
[01:28:09] And,
[01:28:09] you know,
[01:28:09] we'll get some changes for the college football playoff.
[01:28:12] I think the main thing we need to start off with first before the expansion is figuring out what they want to do with the seating.
[01:28:20] Yeah.
[01:28:20] Before we move to 16 teams,
[01:28:23] you got to figure out a,
[01:28:25] you know,
[01:28:26] what do you value?
[01:28:27] Yes.
[01:28:28] Conference champions should get value.
[01:28:30] Put them in the thing,
[01:28:31] but just because you won your conference,
[01:28:32] as we know,
[01:28:33] not every conference is the same.
[01:28:35] So,
[01:28:36] you know,
[01:28:37] Arizona state.
[01:28:39] Cool.
[01:28:39] They got to buy this year for future years.
[01:28:42] You know,
[01:28:42] you can't say that,
[01:28:43] you know,
[01:28:44] if,
[01:28:44] you know,
[01:28:44] if they're 10 and two and you have an 11,
[01:28:47] one,
[01:28:48] a Michigan team that didn't necessarily win the big 10,
[01:28:50] you can't,
[01:28:51] you know what I'm saying?
[01:28:53] I don't know if you can,
[01:28:55] maybe you can,
[01:28:57] but I would say most years you probably can't say,
[01:28:59] Hey,
[01:29:00] you know,
[01:29:00] they deserve the two seat as an example.
[01:29:03] Um,
[01:29:05] but I think that,
[01:29:07] I mean,
[01:29:07] the other thing is this,
[01:29:08] uh,
[01:29:08] after the first round,
[01:29:10] you got to recede.
[01:29:11] If,
[01:29:12] if you can't,
[01:29:12] you can't have Oregon have the toughest.
[01:29:16] I mean,
[01:29:17] Oregon has a tough game either way.
[01:29:19] The tough,
[01:29:20] arguably the toughest second round game.
[01:29:23] Yeah.
[01:29:23] I mean,
[01:29:24] you have Oregon either play on Tennessee or the plan Ohio state.
[01:29:28] I mean,
[01:29:28] that's tough either way it goes.
[01:29:30] And you have a team like Penn state.
[01:29:34] Go play SMU.
[01:29:36] They win that.
[01:29:37] Then they go play Boise.
[01:29:38] I mean,
[01:29:40] I mean,
[01:29:40] it's tough games.
[01:29:41] You can't knock either one,
[01:29:42] but on paper,
[01:29:43] Oregon's like,
[01:29:44] what the hell?
[01:29:45] Yeah,
[01:29:45] exactly.
[01:29:46] Yeah.
[01:29:48] no,
[01:29:48] I'm always a big fan of receding and,
[01:29:51] and,
[01:29:52] uh,
[01:29:52] in any type of playoffs.
[01:29:54] Yeah.
[01:29:55] I mean,
[01:29:55] I get it.
[01:29:56] I mean,
[01:29:56] it matches for the eight,
[01:29:57] nine matchup plays the one,
[01:29:59] whatever.
[01:29:59] That makes sense,
[01:30:00] but it's just crazy to,
[01:30:02] to think.
[01:30:04] Well,
[01:30:04] that works better when you're in a position like the NCAA tournament,
[01:30:08] where you're playing all the games in one weekend and you can kind of fix
[01:30:11] brackets like that.
[01:30:12] But when you play,
[01:30:13] you know,
[01:30:13] you got a week or like 11 days,
[01:30:15] whatever,
[01:30:15] between games,
[01:30:16] you can.
[01:30:17] Yeah.
[01:30:17] You got time to figure that out.
[01:30:19] Yeah.
[01:30:19] Let's,
[01:30:20] you know,
[01:30:20] I mean,
[01:30:22] Penn state probably has,
[01:30:25] on paper,
[01:30:25] the easiest route to a semifinal ever.
[01:30:28] If you don't,
[01:30:29] based upon the paper,
[01:30:31] the SMU is going to be a tough game.
[01:30:32] Going to the blue field would be tough,
[01:30:34] but you look at it,
[01:30:36] you're like,
[01:30:36] what the heck?
[01:30:39] But yeah,
[01:30:39] I mean,
[01:30:40] you look at Texas,
[01:30:42] I mean,
[01:30:43] yeah,
[01:30:44] going to Arizona,
[01:30:44] if they beat Clemson at home,
[01:30:46] going to Arizona state,
[01:30:47] it'd be interesting game,
[01:30:48] but on paper,
[01:30:48] you're like,
[01:30:48] damn,
[01:30:49] really not the toughest way to.
[01:30:53] No.
[01:30:53] Yeah.
[01:30:54] Yeah.
[01:30:54] You got to look at this,
[01:30:55] you know,
[01:30:56] the auto conference,
[01:30:57] the auto buys,
[01:30:58] that's probably not going to last.
[01:31:00] It doesn't seem to be too popular.
[01:31:02] All right.
[01:31:02] So,
[01:31:03] and it doesn't,
[01:31:04] I was going to figure that out before you expand.
[01:31:07] Yeah.
[01:31:07] It's fine.
[01:31:08] If you want to give conference winners,
[01:31:09] uh,
[01:31:10] auto bid,
[01:31:10] I'm not against that at all,
[01:31:12] but,
[01:31:12] uh,
[01:31:13] yeah,
[01:31:13] I don't think that necessarily it should automatically get the top four seeds in a buy.
[01:31:17] It just seems so.
[01:31:19] But,
[01:31:20] well,
[01:31:20] with that said,
[01:31:21] uh,
[01:31:21] Greg,
[01:31:21] what has been done real good for you this week?
[01:31:24] Uh,
[01:31:25] you know,
[01:31:25] just,
[01:31:26] uh,
[01:31:28] I don't know,
[01:31:29] just,
[01:31:29] uh,
[01:31:30] um,
[01:31:30] getting into that Christmas feel this week more.
[01:31:33] So,
[01:31:34] um,
[01:31:34] you know,
[01:31:35] it was a good finish,
[01:31:37] finally finished up the outside lights this week.
[01:31:39] So that was good.
[01:31:40] There you go.
[01:31:41] Yeah.
[01:31:41] Yeah.
[01:31:42] A little warm.
[01:31:42] It was a lot warmer than what I thought it was going to be.
[01:31:44] So it was good.
[01:31:45] Got that off.
[01:31:46] Well,
[01:31:47] that's good.
[01:31:47] Finished,
[01:31:48] you know,
[01:31:49] and,
[01:31:49] uh,
[01:31:49] you know,
[01:31:50] you know,
[01:31:51] kids started getting more excited for Christmas.
[01:31:54] It puts me in the mood for Christmas.
[01:31:56] So,
[01:31:56] yeah.
[01:31:56] So just enjoying getting to that more of that holiday feel and hopefully get into that
[01:32:02] bacon so we can have some good cookies.
[01:32:05] Um,
[01:32:06] but how about you?
[01:32:07] Uh,
[01:32:08] I'm actually going to go with what's not done up real good this week and it's
[01:32:13] goddamn fantasy football.
[01:32:15] Uh,
[01:32:17] number one seed in the playoffs,
[01:32:19] best team in the league all year by far,
[01:32:21] just scoring points left to right.
[01:32:22] And my guys actually did well today,
[01:32:24] uh,
[01:32:25] play my boy.
[01:32:26] Uh,
[01:32:26] he was the sixth seed actually.
[01:32:28] So even we do receding in ours,
[01:32:30] you know,
[01:32:30] he,
[01:32:31] he pulled the upset last week.
[01:32:32] We do a 16 playoff.
[01:32:34] I got the buy and his team just exploded on me today.
[01:32:38] And I,
[01:32:39] I'm going to need a miracle tonight.
[01:32:40] I got Justin Jefferson and,
[01:32:43] and Brock Bauer tomorrow,
[01:32:44] but I need them both to have huge career games to,
[01:32:47] to get the comeback.
[01:32:50] So once again,
[01:32:51] and this is not new for me in this particularly,
[01:32:55] especially I have great regular seasons and then we get to the playoffs and,
[01:32:59] uh,
[01:33:01] not even,
[01:33:02] it's not even my guys.
[01:33:02] I think one year is my guys just decided not to show up,
[01:33:05] but mostly it's just like,
[01:33:06] this is the most points.
[01:33:08] This is the guy I'm playing this week.
[01:33:09] Most points that he scored all year.
[01:33:12] And he waits for this,
[01:33:13] you know,
[01:33:14] I remember one year,
[01:33:16] a few years back as when Brady was still there and they played,
[01:33:20] I think it was the lions actually before they were good.
[01:33:22] And it was the playoff matchup and Tom Brady and Mike Evans went off,
[01:33:27] uh,
[01:33:28] just absolutely went nuts.
[01:33:29] And I knew that I was going to lose that game.
[01:33:32] And that was like a Saturday game.
[01:33:34] And I knew I was like,
[01:33:35] well,
[01:33:35] congratulations.
[01:33:36] I said in a little group chat,
[01:33:37] he's like,
[01:33:37] Oh,
[01:33:37] it's not over yet.
[01:33:38] I'm like the hell it ain't like your,
[01:33:39] your two guys already got like 120 points.
[01:33:42] Yeah.
[01:33:43] Something like that.
[01:33:44] And like that,
[01:33:44] you only had two guys play.
[01:33:46] Like there's no chance.
[01:33:47] Yeah.
[01:33:47] That's tough.
[01:33:48] Yeah.
[01:33:49] Yeah.
[01:33:50] So that's the worst thing about fantasy football.
[01:33:52] It could be so great for the regular season.
[01:33:55] And then all of a sudden,
[01:33:56] boom,
[01:33:56] just over with just like that.
[01:33:58] And nothing I did wrong,
[01:33:59] you know,
[01:34:00] like nothing I did wrong.
[01:34:01] You know,
[01:34:02] I had a couple of guys kind of,
[01:34:03] you know,
[01:34:04] underperformed today,
[01:34:05] I guess not,
[01:34:05] but not even huge.
[01:34:07] It was like Zay flowers,
[01:34:09] but you know,
[01:34:09] he still got me like a lot.
[01:34:10] He got me solid.
[01:34:11] You know,
[01:34:11] all my guys got me solid points.
[01:34:13] I got Lamar.
[01:34:13] So he had a huge day.
[01:34:15] I got big points.
[01:34:16] Normally it wins you games.
[01:34:17] Yeah.
[01:34:18] No.
[01:34:19] Yeah.
[01:34:20] The score I had today,
[01:34:21] you know,
[01:34:21] especially when you consider once I add on my two tomorrow night,
[01:34:25] even if they just do average things,
[01:34:26] I'd win nine out of 10 times,
[01:34:29] but yeah,
[01:34:31] the other thing too,
[01:34:32] those matchups,
[01:34:33] when you look at it and you have like,
[01:34:35] you know,
[01:34:36] you lose because someone goes crazy and you look at the other,
[01:34:39] you look on it and then all the other matchups and you would be the,
[01:34:42] every other team in the league,
[01:34:44] besides the teams are playing.
[01:34:46] Yeah,
[01:34:46] that's the worst.
[01:34:47] If anything,
[01:34:48] I'm about to say,
[01:34:48] if anything makes me feel better,
[01:34:49] the same thing is happening to the two seed.
[01:34:53] Oh,
[01:34:53] okay.
[01:34:54] And the same thing,
[01:34:55] this guy is just balling out against him.
[01:34:57] I think the guy he's playing had Josh Allen.
[01:35:00] Oh,
[01:35:01] wow.
[01:35:02] And so he needs,
[01:35:03] if I remember right,
[01:35:04] he's got Sam Darnold tomorrow.
[01:35:06] So we're rooting for the Vikings tomorrow to go nuts.
[01:35:09] Oh,
[01:35:09] that's funny.
[01:35:11] But yeah,
[01:35:12] so it makes me feel at least a little bit better than the guy that was right
[01:35:15] behind me.
[01:35:16] He had actually had the same record as me this year.
[01:35:18] I just beat him head to head.
[01:35:20] So that's why I got the one seed.
[01:35:22] The funny part is we joked about it mid season.
[01:35:24] We were both like,
[01:35:25] you know,
[01:35:26] five and oh,
[01:35:26] six and oh,
[01:35:27] we were like,
[01:35:28] someone made a comment in the chat.
[01:35:30] Like,
[01:35:30] damn,
[01:35:30] y'all need to lose.
[01:35:31] We're like,
[01:35:31] ah,
[01:35:31] don't worry.
[01:35:32] We'll lose in the first round of the playoffs.
[01:35:33] I'm sure.
[01:35:34] Sure.
[01:35:35] Sure enough.
[01:35:36] There you go.
[01:35:38] What can you do?
[01:35:40] Right.

[01:36:25] you can just lie and tell them it's on back order.
[01:36:27] You know,
[01:36:27] you ordered it in time,
[01:36:28] but it's coming.
[01:36:29] Hey,

[01:36:30] But,
[01:36:31] uh,
[01:36:32] forget it.
[01:36:33] No,
[01:36:33] no,

[01:36:45] I know glued to the TV next.
[01:36:48] I think I'm working Friday,
[01:36:50] but I,
[01:36:51] you know,
[01:36:51] definitely be sneaking off.
[01:36:53] It's just holiday party season.
[01:36:54] So that's not,
[01:36:55] yeah,
[01:36:55] it's nothing crazy.
[01:36:56] And then,
[01:36:57] uh,
[01:36:57] Saturday,
[01:36:58] I know,
[01:36:59] man,
[01:37:00] three,
[01:37:01] three,
[01:37:02] just back to back.
[01:37:03] Boom,
[01:37:03] boom.
[01:37:04] Just beautiful games.
[01:37:05] Beautiful games.
[01:37:06] Yeah.
[01:37:06] I think we're going to some Christmas party,
[01:37:08] a friend's birthday,
[01:37:09] Saturday night,
[01:37:09] but Hey,
[01:37:10] it's,
[01:37:10] they know they'll have it on TV somewhere.
[01:37:13] Oh yeah.
[01:37:14] Oh yeah.
[01:37:15] SEC school too.
[01:37:16] And the South.
[01:37:17] Yeah.
[01:37:18] Yeah.
[01:37:19] Yeah.
[01:37:21] If not,
[01:37:21] I'm,
[01:37:22] I'm not,
[01:37:22] I'm not above taking my phone out and having it on the whole time.
[01:37:25] Uh,
[01:37:26] honestly,
[01:37:27] first time I ever say this.
[01:37:30] Oh,
[01:37:30] HIO.
[01:37:31] Let's go.
[01:37:32] Oh,
[01:37:33] Oh man.
[01:37:33] I mean,
[01:37:33] Hey,
[01:37:34] I'm right there with you.
[01:37:36] I'm right there with you.
[01:37:37] No,
[01:37:38] I work one of the guys I've worked for,
[01:37:40] uh,
[01:37:40] on the festival circuit in the summer.
[01:37:41] He's a big Ohio state fan.
[01:37:43] So I'll be,
[01:37:44] uh,
[01:37:44] you know,
[01:37:45] yeah.
[01:37:46] I hope your Buckeyes do the thing.
[01:37:48] Cause I'm usually every day,
[01:37:50] big guys,
[01:37:51] but if there's a way to get rid of the balls early,
[01:37:56] we're not fond of Ohio state,
[01:37:57] but as always,
[01:37:58] it is the official position of the taken on sports podcast that every day,
[01:38:03] all day for the rest of the days,
[01:38:05] fuck Tennessee.
[01:38:07] Uh,
[01:38:07] absolutely.
[01:38:08] Go to hell.
[01:38:09] Rocky top.
[01:38:10] That's it.
[01:38:10] All that folks.
[01:38:11] We'll see you next week.
[01:38:13] Greg,
[01:38:13] buddy.
[01:38:14] Take it easy.
[01:38:15] Yeah.
[01:38:15] Yeah.
