Season II is here. I’m back and ready to talk about sports and hard topics…are YOU ready?! If so, then sit back, relax, grab a drink or two and listen to The Staredown!
[00:00:00] Hey everybody and welcome back to The Staredown. It has been a little while but I am ready
[00:00:08] to jump right on into this. If you'll notice today's episode is called Season 2, my way
[00:00:16] because I think after a little bit of a break it's time to get back to what this whole
[00:00:22] thing was started for. Women talking sports, women's experiences around sports and well
[00:00:29] whatever the hell I really want to talk about. So if you're ready you know what time it is.
[00:00:36] Sit back, relax, grab a drink or two and let's dive on into The Staredown.
[00:00:52] All right so let's kind of jump right on in and let's just go ahead and address the
[00:01:13] obvious. Where have I been? And I know you've all missed me, right? Right well I've missed
[00:01:18] you but more importantly I've kind of missed me. So this will maybe make a little bit more
[00:01:25] sense and maybe that last statement will make a little bit more sense but basically I left
[00:01:29] a very toxic job. I'm going to call it what it is. I left an extremely toxic job at the end
[00:01:35] of January. It was a very interesting place because I was a female and I was not part of the
[00:01:47] end crowd so to speak. My ideas were not heard, they were not given the merit that they deserved
[00:01:54] and respect was honest to God just not given. So I did what I had to do and I left and I have now
[00:02:00] started a new job. That is wonderful and I love it so much and everyone that I've met from the
[00:02:07] team has been like they have just been so great and they are so welcoming and it doesn't matter if
[00:02:14] I am a male or a female or an alien or whatever they are just excited to have me be on the team
[00:02:22] and listen to my ideas and we actually truly collaborate and we listen to each other
[00:02:29] and it's not an easy task that we're doing but it's just a good environment. So that's one thing
[00:02:36] but I will say that even though I left something that was emotionally draining, it's been great
[00:02:40] to dive into something that has been very much instead of dealing with emotional stuff all day
[00:02:47] every day or people playing games and playing emotional games, I'm actually doing work. Like I'm having
[00:02:54] to use my brain and think through problems and how do we fix them or what can we do? How can we
[00:03:01] anticipate things in the future? So I have been exhausted in such a great way of being able to get back
[00:03:09] into actually using my brain for a job. So I'm very happy so that's one thing that's happened.
[00:03:14] The other thing that happened is in the middle of February actually right after actually the end
[00:03:19] of week one of my new job, I ended up with COVID and it was horrible. It was so unlike
[00:03:27] my first bout of COVID which was basically like a running nose for a day. No this had me down
[00:03:33] and out for about a week fever chills awfulness so guys just let's all remember guys and gals
[00:03:41] everybody everybody just remember please wash your hands things still spread germs are everywhere
[00:03:47] let's not continue to have to deal with this it was bad but yes there was that. Then after that
[00:03:53] there were some more work things new job things travel which is fun I love to travel so that's been
[00:03:59] that's been a lot of fun and then the other thing that I had happened was I had my gallbladder
[00:04:06] removed so again this is my podcast so I'm you know I'm gonna give you guys as much details I want
[00:04:11] but yeah I had my gallbladder removed it has been great actually I'm a few weeks out and actually
[00:04:18] started running again this week so I'm on the mend and I'm on the mend physically but I think more
[00:04:27] importantly I'm on the mend emotionally and mentally and that's been a really hard thing because I
[00:04:32] don't think I realized how worn down I was after football season and those things kind of happened
[00:04:40] and everything wrapped up with you know the last job and I keep just referring to it because it
[00:04:43] was a good point in time to kind of really realize when I allowed myself to have a little bit
[00:04:51] of introspection and figure out you know kind of these things like okay why am I this tired is
[00:04:56] it is it mentally is it physically all those things so anyway a long story super long sorry I've
[00:05:04] probably taken more time on this than I really wanted to but oh well I have done a lot of thinking
[00:05:09] about the podcast and I have done a lot of kind of soul-serting I guess um making sure that
[00:05:21] what I have said on the previous episodes is where I want to go with this making sure that it's true
[00:05:27] to me and true to who I am and true to kind of what I feel like the podcast space is missing in terms
[00:05:36] of women and sports and let me tell you guys there's been a lot of things happening in sports lately
[00:05:41] especially involving women so I kind of want to this is a reset episode it's it's why it's called
[00:05:48] season two and if you go look at it the two it's it's just kind of like Beyonce the two the two
[00:05:55] capital eyes we're going Roman numeral here um by the way her new album cowboy Carter please go check
[00:06:01] it out it's amazing even if you don't like some of the songs there's a little bit of everything for
[00:06:07] everyone on there so um yeah I've been jammed it all weekend so I've been a little inspired by her
[00:06:13] so so don't be surprised if that's not the last reference but you know this is to me this episode
[00:06:18] is going to be me hitting the reset button and not even really hitting the reset button but me just
[00:06:23] hitting go like okay skip forward we're done with chapter one we're on to chapter two like this
[00:06:28] is season two like I've done this now for this is I believe episode 18 or 19 I'm not sure it doesn't
[00:06:36] matter it's season one or I'm sorry it's episode one of season two so new start we're gonna
[00:06:42] we're gonna go into this season of life and we're gonna we're gonna start all over with it so
[00:06:46] I'm gonna jump right on end to probably the biggest topic and women sports right now
[00:06:52] the NCAA tournament march madness baby and of course the hell fitting is at death today is March 31st
[00:06:57] the last day of March which is by the way been such a long month and even though it's my birthday
[00:07:02] month oh y'all this month has felt like a whole year but that's okay because tomorrow's April
[00:07:08] so again we're gonna keep we're just gonna keep on keeping on but the NCAA women's tournament
[00:07:13] has definitely not been a disappointment at all actually neither is the men's tournament but I
[00:07:20] want to focus on the women's because I think that when you saw Shaq kind of come out early on
[00:07:26] before the tournament either tournament started and he was like look the women's tournaments actually
[00:07:32] kind of probably gonna be the one that I pay attention to the most you have the K-1 Clarks you
[00:07:37] have the angel recess you have the juju you have all of these storylines going on and I think it's been
[00:07:45] such a testament to the work that these players and coaches and honestly conferences have put into
[00:07:55] growing the women's game and you know my husband always says like he loves women's basketball
[00:08:01] and he'll tell anybody like women's basketball is where it's at for him because they play defense
[00:08:07] you know you it I can't tell you how many times even when Ole Miss isn't playing we'll be watching a
[00:08:12] game and I'm like hell is that even a travel because let me tell you some of these refs and the
[00:08:16] refs have not all been great but that's not the point they are sticking to these rules and you know
[00:08:23] you don't get the five or six steps not dribbling no you're getting called for a walk and
[00:08:29] you're having defense played you're having girls being I hate to say it knocked out of games because
[00:08:36] they're down there and they're all going for rebounds and girls are going up and they're hitting
[00:08:39] their head on the court and that doesn't feel good angel recessed or they got a bloody nose I mean
[00:08:45] these girls are playing they are playing and it is so much fun to watch and then of course you do
[00:08:51] have the personalities with it too right like it's it's kind of the same thing with like Ray Lewis
[00:08:57] and the Baltimore Ravens like I love Ray Lewis's personality you know the walking out on the field
[00:09:02] like everybody knew his like walk out and then they're like the raw kind of thing and I think
[00:09:06] you're starting to see these girls personalities come out but with that the keyboard warriors
[00:09:12] all feel like they have the ability to say something and so the first topic I really want to touch
[00:09:17] on when it comes to the women's game is angel Reese is not a thug do I like her no
[00:09:29] do I have my own reasons for it yeah and I'm not going to get into them but that's okay like
[00:09:32] I really honestly it boils down to I don't like her because she's not on my team
[00:09:37] end of story but when angel Reese goes out there and tells you know Camila Cardoso like
[00:09:46] I'm gonna be doing this all fucking day all fucking day and everyone's like oh she's a thug
[00:09:53] well then Cameron brink walks off the court after fouling out until the ref fuck you
[00:10:01] angel Reese is a thug but Cameron is just she's really passionate
[00:10:07] you know it's not that's not right that is blatant that is blatant and you even kind of saw it in
[00:10:16] the article this weekend that the LA Times put out and I'm not even going to bring up the quote
[00:10:21] because the way that the LA Times described the LSU women's basketball team
[00:10:28] it was absolutely irresponsible journalism you know I think we were all kind of waiting for
[00:10:36] the whole Washington post article on Kim Mulkey to come out and we thought that was going to be
[00:10:41] the hit piece quote unquote and like the big thing when we were all talking about by the way
[00:10:44] the Washington post article on Kim Mulkey was I thought it was actually really good I felt like maybe
[00:10:49] there were topics that they probably had dove a little bit more into until she made a big deal
[00:10:56] out of it but I felt like it was a good article I didn't know a whole lot about her and to me provided
[00:11:02] a lot of insight I mean I knew she had some issues with some former players but like the things
[00:11:06] with like her dad I didn't know that you know her dad basically built two softball fields on their
[00:11:12] land and those types of things so it's really interesting to kind of hear that but going back
[00:11:18] to the original statement you know I don't think that anyone expected that the LA Times article
[00:11:24] before the LSU UCLA game was going to be the controversial thing that we were all going to be
[00:11:30] talking about but I do agree with Kim coming out and saying that that was absolutely
[00:11:37] unacceptable behavior I do even appreciate the UCLA coach coming out and apologizing for tweeting out
[00:11:44] or retweeting a tweet that had the article linked in it before it was fully read and going back
[00:11:51] and undoing that and apologizing to Kim into the LSU players and stating that you know look
[00:11:58] I understand there's no place for sexism racism anything like that in our game and so my apologies
[00:12:04] I should not have tweeted that out without reading the full article first and I promise to do better
[00:12:10] in the future that's all you can do right like we're humans made a mistake was made let's move on
[00:12:17] but by going and apologizing to them directly was absolutely the right thing to do and Kim like
[00:12:22] I said Kim had every right to call out the LA Times for printing that the LA Times this morning Sunday
[00:12:30] did print an edited version I believe with that statement retracted but the damage is done right
[00:12:36] like that's the thing I had someone tell me one time that if there are ever words you don't want
[00:12:43] out in the universe for someone to know if there's ever anything you don't want someone to know
[00:12:49] don't ever speak them or write them because once they're out there they're out there and they cannot
[00:12:55] go back in and so the LA Times should absolutely use this as a way to ensure that journalistic
[00:13:04] integrity is continuing to be something that they strive for and ensuring that statements that
[00:13:13] the that are similar to the ones that were made in that article no longer make it through
[00:13:19] editorial reviews it's just it's just not acceptable I mean you're talking you literally
[00:13:25] you literally divided two teams playing on the same court for the love of the same game
[00:13:35] and you basically divided them based on race and thug versus nontug or more black versus
[00:13:46] more white and it's just guys we're in 2024 like you would we would all think by now that this isn't
[00:13:53] something we're going to talk about but it is and that's one of the things that I promised myself
[00:13:59] I would not shy away from on this podcast and I'm not going to and I probably have
[00:14:05] and probably hidden it a little bit more than I would have liked I kind of probably eased into
[00:14:12] it a little bit but sorry guys kid gloves are off now and this is season two so we're gonna call
[00:14:18] a spade a spade it is it just is it I'm not I'm not gonna stand forward anymore so it has no place
[00:14:25] in sports it just it doesn't so let's talk about number one topic number two on the NCAA tournament
[00:14:33] is Caitlin Clark so and it kind of ties into that one too right like especially talking about
[00:14:41] the whole like angel Reese and then like Cameron Brink going off and saying what she said to the
[00:14:45] ref and then yesterday there was a whole thing about in the handshake line where angel to hold one of
[00:14:53] the assistant coaches watch her mouth I mean look if she didn't like the coach chirping at her like
[00:15:02] good for her you know I saw something where someone said oh well there were two
[00:15:07] all-issue assistants there and they should have immediately stopped her no I don't think they should
[00:15:14] I think someone on the UCLA bench maybe should have stopped their assistant coach from saying things
[00:15:21] they were saying to a child again guys these are these are kids there's still I mean okay so
[00:15:28] some of them maybe 22 years old I I feel like I was still a kid at 22 years old I there was no way
[00:15:35] that I was a fully functioning adult at that point I mean hell I'm 39 and still don't feel like
[00:15:40] I'm fully functioning sometimes but whatever so you have that okay so angel Reese gets a lot of
[00:15:47] flack for this and then it's like oh where are the adults in the room blah blah blah okay but then
[00:15:52] you watch Caitlin Clark go out on a court and she's dropping F bombs and she's which I don't know why
[00:16:00] I didn't just say the words since I've already said it like three times already but you know like
[00:16:04] she's going out there and she's like playing to the emotion and she's doing all this and everyone's
[00:16:08] like yeah she just super passionate blah guys she's actually doing more in my opinion
[00:16:18] than angel Reese's at times and it's just it's really hard for me to sit back and see just
[00:16:30] the and see how how the differences are being handled between the two players when you look at them
[00:16:36] they're both phenomenal players they are really good players they are divisive
[00:16:42] they have both come out and set standards for not only their team but for future players
[00:16:48] and so again when you look at it what's the difference in its skin color and so I just
[00:16:53] am tired of that being the thing that we even have to continue to talk about but
[00:17:00] Caitlin Clark moving forward one of the things that bothered me on a completely different note is
[00:17:07] when she broke the record the all-time scoring record for the NCAA and it wasn't even and then
[00:17:17] and then what like a few games later she ended up breaking it including the NAA record that was
[00:17:22] held by a black lady from the 80s and you know they came out and they specifically said like no
[00:17:30] now she really does hold the all-time record like she and her coach came out and she even talked
[00:17:34] about like how cool that was what bothered me though was when she broke Pete Merovich's record
[00:17:41] in my hometown newspaper there was an article about how I'm not kidding it said some will
[00:17:49] still consider him the all-time leading scorer are you what why is first of all why is that a headline
[00:18:01] so you're saying that there's sexist people who that who basically believe that she
[00:18:08] can't score more points than he did in his career bullshit sorry let's just let's call that
[00:18:16] what it is it's bullshit she has scored the points the same way he scored the points
[00:18:23] they took the basketball and their hands they shot it through a hoop and with that a certain number
[00:18:30] of points were assigned they were totaled up over her career and tada she has more over her career
[00:18:36] than he did she is the leader I don't care if you think he is or not he is not it is hers so
[00:18:48] again guys we're in 2024 and I'm having to say that I have finally had enough of the blatant
[00:18:59] racism and sexism that continues continues to permeate our society today and I'm done
[00:19:07] I'm done and I know I'm I single handedly I'm never going to change it but I'm not going
[00:19:12] to be quiet about it anymore because being quiet about it hasn't changed it right so
[00:19:19] what if I got to lose nothing I have nothing to lose at this point I'm going to continue to talk
[00:19:24] about it I'm going to continue to provide a space for all races to come and talk about their love
[00:19:32] of sports I am going to continue to provide a space for all sexes to come and talk about their
[00:19:39] love of sports and their knowledge of sports and those types of things but I'm no longer going
[00:19:45] to shy away from these conversations I'm no longer going to shy away from the blatant disrespect
[00:19:50] that is being given to both athletes that are women and athletes that are not white I'm done
[00:19:59] I'm done this place is going to be safe for them and I'm going to call out those who continue to
[00:20:07] really call them out because they are of a different color or of a different sex like I'm tired
[00:20:12] of it so um so that's kind of chapter one of season two um the other thing that I really want to
[00:20:19] focus on in this new season is bringing the humanity of sports back into it I want to tell more
[00:20:28] stories I want to talk about what sports can do for people in general and you know you heard me
[00:20:37] talk a lot about it in the especially in the episode never quit um you heard um KD Hill talk about it
[00:20:48] and in his episode where he was a guest about how you know he very much it wasn't you know that
[00:20:56] when he had his accident he was worried that he was never going to be able to play football again
[00:21:00] that wasn't that wasn't it at all it was very much the whole portion of like okay I've gotten
[00:21:07] to this point and that's okay sports are not not in it for for me anymore but that's that's
[00:21:13] perfectly fine because but because of sports I am where I am so you know I really want to bring
[00:21:17] the humanitarian aspect back into it and there's one story that I saw that I really really really
[00:21:24] well actually two I apologize two that I really really really want to talk about and the first one
[00:21:29] is probably the most famous one that most people will know if they've paid any attention but
[00:21:34] Michael Schreihann's daughter Isabella Schreihann she has a brain tumor and that is why he actually
[00:21:39] took some time away in the fall and also a list used Greg Brooks Jr who I think I talked about
[00:21:47] in a and one of the earliest episodes um he has the exact same type of brain tumor and so I guess
[00:21:54] Isabella reached out to Greg and they've been chatting back and forth because I think they're kind
[00:22:00] of in the same area um and sort of the same phases of treatment as each other and so I just think
[00:22:06] that is so cool that her the daughter of a very famous football player is going through the same thing
[00:22:13] that he a college football player is going through at the same time and so they're using that connection
[00:22:20] and the sports connection to you know support each other and isn't that what sports are about
[00:22:26] right like you okay we have our love of sports but then what else can we do like where else can we
[00:22:30] connect and that's kind of just being a human too so I really loved that story it was super cute
[00:22:36] she posted a picture of her whole family that had on the praying for Greg Brooks Jr. shirts
[00:22:42] and so I thought that was really cool so so that's one thing and then the other thing is that
[00:22:49] she um not her I'm sorry there is another she there's a she she's a Michigan softball player named
[00:22:56] Kayleigh Rodriguez and she was diagnosed with cancer in the fall of 2022 and she had
[00:23:02] doing sarcoma which is a rare form of bone cancer but she is now I believe off treatment
[00:23:09] and she is trying to work her way back to being able to play college softball again
[00:23:15] and I think that is so cool you guys like I just I think that's so amazing and as someone who
[00:23:23] was an athlete when I was diagnosed with cancer I unfortunately was not really in a place to
[00:23:30] be able to come back and be at a competitive level after my treatments and so I think it's just so
[00:23:36] awesome that she is and I think it's such you know a great testament to what advances have been made
[00:23:43] in terms of treatments and through the scientific community to ensure that it's no longer one
[00:23:49] a death sentence and to that not only is it not a death sentence but it's also not an automatic
[00:23:57] changing course of your life if you don't want it to be you know you can work back and a lot more
[00:24:03] is known to about nutrition and those types of things so I just think that's really cool so
[00:24:08] I'm going to say that you know Kaylee if you ever want to come on and talk all things sports
[00:24:15] being a college football player your love of softball maybe how sports got you through treatments
[00:24:21] and those types of things I am always here which then leads me to chapter three of this episode
[00:24:30] and there's only four chapters guys so don't worry like we're gonna get there I promise
[00:24:35] but chapter three is when I started this actually on January you guys I don't even know July 12
[00:24:46] I wrote Steer Down Goals it's a note it saved on my phone and I will
[00:24:53] share it as a screenshot on on the blog post it's gonna go along with this but my goals and my goals
[00:25:04] for this at that point and really the only thing I've added to this are people I want these are
[00:25:12] my guest goals right like this is what this is what I want and so you'll see when I post
[00:25:17] the picture you'll see there's a little bit of a break and the ones after the break are the ones
[00:25:22] that have been added since this was originally established on July 12th the last year so anyone
[00:25:27] from the US Women's National team I don't care when they played they've ever played for the US
[00:25:30] Women's National team I would love to have them on can to story Lee and she is kicking butt and
[00:25:36] taking names as the athletic director of Vanderbilt I'd love to have her on Nicole Lynn Brittany Griner
[00:25:42] Holly Roe Van Chancellor the first male on here um very very wonderful women's basketball coach
[00:25:51] he absolutely did a phenomenal job in making sure that the game of women's basketball was spread
[00:25:58] in that the fundamentals were held in there so I would love to have him on
[00:26:03] subord Robin Roberts you are gonna laugh when you hear these next three
[00:26:08] Peyton Eli and Olivia Manning now they can all three come on at the same time they can come on
[00:26:12] individually Peyton and Eli can come on and then Olivia can have an entire episode to herself
[00:26:18] I don't care but I would love love for them to come on McAleus Riffin Suzy Colbert Jamel Hill and
[00:26:26] she has three exclamation points after her name I love her I love her I love her I love her I love
[00:26:32] her and I even though I don't always agree with some of her takes I love the fact that she is
[00:26:37] unabashedly her and after reading her book last year I just oh I love her I want her on uh Tiffany
[00:26:45] Haddish Martina Nevita Lova Coco Gough Serena and Venus again together separate I don't care
[00:26:52] Amanda Nunez Clarissa Shields Billie Jean King and Sarah Thomas all right so I basically feel like
[00:26:59] I covered every sport here right except I didn't cover running and so the next three names are
[00:27:07] the three names that weren't originally on there but got added and I'm like guys like why did
[00:27:12] like how did I miss that I am a runner like how did I miss the runners but here are my runners
[00:27:17] chicari Richardson Brittany Reese and Brittany Reese is not necessarily a runner but she's
[00:27:22] track and field where I like girl went and went to Olympic medals how cool is that and she's an
[00:27:27] Ole Miss alum and she's part of Empower so like I feel like I'm going three for three here with
[00:27:32] her like I feel like she would be awesome and then also Molly Siddell and one of the cool things about
[00:27:38] Molly that I just am in all of her is she actually ran in the Rio Olympics she ran the marathon
[00:27:47] and her second ever attempt at a marathon was the uh US Olympic trials where she wanted
[00:27:54] literally her second ever attempt at that distance and she wanted her third attempt was the
[00:28:01] marathon itself in the Olympics and now she went bronze do you know how hard that is
[00:28:06] I don't because I can't even fathom how fast and insanely good you have to be for that
[00:28:13] so yeah so she's won and then finally my last one and people may roll their eyes at this
[00:28:19] or go ugh but I don't really care so whatever it's Lance Armstrong
[00:28:25] in part of the reason why I have Lance on here is because I did my internship
[00:28:30] at the Lance Armstrong Foundation back when it was still known as the Lance Armstrong Foundation
[00:28:35] it was actually during the time when the little yellow bracelets were still very popular he had
[00:28:41] actually just gone into retirement it was actually his first year retired that I did my internship
[00:28:46] there and so it was so much fun but he's had a lot of things happen in his life since then um a
[00:28:52] lot of admissions and I just think it would be really cool to talk to him from more of a standpoint
[00:29:00] of cancer survivor how do you overcome those things you know I've set it on here once
[00:29:06] I've set it on here a million times and I'll continue to say it we are all humans we all have
[00:29:12] mistakes we're going to make mistakes because we have emotions and thoughts and feelings
[00:29:16] and that's okay and so you know just kind of talking to him human to human you know
[00:29:23] what he did even though he doped quote unquote it doesn't take away from the fact
[00:29:32] and I think this is like the really cool part right and it sounds it sounds so odd but
[00:29:38] everybody else was doing it too and he still was beating them and that was even after going through
[00:29:44] cancer treatments like that's still kind of mind-blowing so you know I feel like he was probably more
[00:29:49] on a level playing field than the story has been made out to be because it's just the headlines
[00:29:55] always been oh my god he admitted to doping okay that's great but so was everybody else so
[00:30:00] everybody else hit it too if he was able to hide it not get caught while he was doing it and he had
[00:30:04] to come out and admit it you think that they couldn't hide it everybody was doing it so he was
[00:30:08] still the best of them and so I think that would be just a really cool thing to like take the aspect
[00:30:13] of like would you do anything different you know I want to ask these things and so that's my list
[00:30:19] so far it will continue to grow I have no doubt um but yeah so I wanted to just share that because
[00:30:24] I think again like I said earlier if you don't want it to be known don't say it and to me with
[00:30:32] that kind of thing if it's not known I'm never gonna get a shot at having anybody on there and
[00:30:38] also too if there were any of those names on that list and you don't know who they are I absolutely
[00:30:43] suggest you go Google them because some of them are so cool and have such amazing stories
[00:30:48] and I just would love it I would absolutely love it so that's chapter three and we're done with that
[00:30:55] now we're gonna move on to something that is a little bit more serious it does kind of go back
[00:30:59] into the running aspect um a little a few weeks ago I guess um back in February there was
[00:31:10] a runner by the name of Lake and Riley who was out for a run in Athens, Georgia and she was
[00:31:17] attacked and murdered while she was on her run and this is something that is so very scary it is
[00:31:26] sadly still a reality that we have to face that you can't even go out for a run in your own
[00:31:34] neighborhood or in your own city and be safe like you just you can't and as a runner and
[00:31:44] I think kind of what got me really thinking about this was actually something that happened
[00:31:47] yesterday so I actually went out for a five mile run yesterday the longest run I've done
[00:31:51] probably in a year but I mean again I'm like a couple weeks out of surgery and I'm still running
[00:31:56] five miles like I think that's pretty awesome and so it was hot so I took my I tanked up off but
[00:32:03] sports bra running shorts I'm covered more with that than I am probably won't half the bathing suits
[00:32:11] in my drawer I at that's a whole other story for another day but I was covered more than a lot of
[00:32:17] people are when they go to a pool right so it is what it is but I got honked at and whistled at
[00:32:27] and cat called multiple times and it just kind of grows and you know I was talking to my husband
[00:32:36] I'm gonna call him out here a little bit and he was like oh I thought you'd be flattered by that
[00:32:40] like when I was telling him I was like I just didn't like it and he was like oh I would have
[00:32:42] imagined that you would be flattered by it no I wasn't I was just trying to run I don't want to be
[00:32:51] cat-called I just want to be left to just go do my thing I don't cat-call men when they're out
[00:32:59] working out with their shirts off I just I don't like that's that's just not it's not cool and it
[00:33:05] makes you feel icky because instead of being seen as a runner I'm seeing as a woman running down
[00:33:12] the street and in their mind like half naked but I'm really not and even if that is what it truly
[00:33:21] is who cares who cares don't draw attention to it I mean I'm just out here for a run right but
[00:33:28] I did find it really interesting because then like today I went out for a run and I actually just
[00:33:33] decided to to kind of do this as a little experiment I actually wore tighter shorter shorts today
[00:33:40] and I wore a crop top and then the sports bra underneath it so I actually probably had about
[00:33:47] the same amount of skin showing in the midsection but my legs had way less you know how many times
[00:33:54] I got cat-called today none I also went out running when church was letting out so I'm pretty sure
[00:34:02] that there was no male in any car leaving all of the churches that I ran past that was going to
[00:34:10] make any attempt to cat-call me so that may not have been it I just thought it was an interesting
[00:34:16] point to make about what it's like being a female and you know I'm pretty sure that
[00:34:26] and guys men literally please correct me on this if I am wrong but if you go out for a run
[00:34:35] and you are worried about being cat-called if you take your shirt off in the middle of the run
[00:34:40] because you're hot please let me know because I'm pretty sure you don't but again I'm not a man
[00:34:47] I've never been there I don't know so let me know if I am wrong and you do worry about getting cat-called
[00:34:53] if something like that happens please let me know because I think then two that's a whole other
[00:34:58] situation that needs to be talked about and I think ultimately and that was chapter four and but
[00:35:05] to Lincoln Riley like let's not let's not ever forget her name like let's not ever forget her
[00:35:10] and let's not ever forget the fact that she was just out there doing something she wanted to do
[00:35:15] and her life was taken away from her and that is that's so not cool and this is not political at all
[00:35:21] this is not this is not political but it is just absolutely unacceptable that we are still in the
[00:35:27] year 2024 in my mind having to talk about the fact that there's blatant sexism there's blatant
[00:35:34] racism and there is a lack of security that women specifically from my point of view because I have
[00:35:45] felt it feel when we're out there just trying to live our lives and it's not good but in the middle
[00:35:53] of all of that not good there are really good things one of the things I didn't mention when I was
[00:35:59] talking about angelry's encatement Clark is that you know angel came out today and even said like
[00:36:04] we don't hate each other and guys they don't have to be best friends but they don't hate each
[00:36:08] other so if anybody thinks they hate each other that's the media making that up that's not them
[00:36:14] they've come out and said they don't hate each other so you know before we just jump and
[00:36:19] immediately believe everything that we see know that there's usually a deeper story to it
[00:36:26] you know everyone has a story everyone has something else that's going on so you know
[00:36:30] human kind be human be kind I feel like that's just something that I really want to ensure that we drive home
[00:36:40] in this season two of the stair down and we're gonna stare down these hard topics right you know
[00:36:46] I think I said that in my very very first episode that that was one of the things I wanted to do but
[00:36:51] I think I got so hyped up in football season and being able to nerd out over a football season
[00:36:57] that I kind of lost a little bit of the other aspect of it and you know I always think it's
[00:37:02] funny that sometimes the universe or god or whatever other deity he may believe in
[00:37:09] will sometimes bring you back to maybe where you started and where you need to be so
[00:37:15] I'm taking all of the changes in my life from a job to being gallbladderless to all of these things
[00:37:23] to show me that this was my original intent my gut keeps telling me to come back here and so I'm going
[00:37:29] to I know not everyone's going to like it and that's okay I know that others are going to have very
[00:37:36] different opinions and that's completely okay and I think the only way that we learn and grow
[00:37:43] in the way we become a better society and better humans is to have these conversations they're not
[00:37:49] always going to be comfortable they're not always going to be lovey-dovey and everyone's going
[00:37:54] to leave them feeling wonderful but they need to be had and so that's going to be one of the things
[00:37:59] that I do bring into this if you are someone who has a topic that you would like to talk about
[00:38:05] and you want to come join come on like this is the place to do it if you are someone who doesn't
[00:38:09] want to come on but you want something to be talked about in your opinion shared and maybe you
[00:38:14] want my opinion on it bring it on at the end I will give you all of the places where you can reach
[00:38:19] out to me for that but it is going to be coming back more towards women driven very community oriented
[00:38:27] so one of the other things too that you're going to kind of see as we move on into a few of the
[00:38:34] other changes that are going to be happening in this season two we're going to move to a new day
[00:38:38] going to be on Thursdays I know this one's not a Thursday but that's okay it's a one off I'm kind of
[00:38:43] introducing you I'm kind of knocking some of the heavier things that I have been feeling
[00:38:47] out of the way but we're going to be on on Thursdays and we're going to start having more guests
[00:38:52] so I've got a couple really good guests lined up sadly they are not on that list but that's okay
[00:38:58] I'm perfectly fine with that because I personally am really excited about these guests some you
[00:39:02] may have heard before some you haven't but we're going to have we're going to have a lot more
[00:39:08] women on talking all things sports you know we've got a couple that you may when you when you hear
[00:39:14] them which is totally giving it away okay it's Mallory and Megan it's the other Mallory and it's
[00:39:18] Megan and I'm so excited because they're going to come talk baseball with me and you all these girls
[00:39:22] are incredibly smart when it comes to baseball and they went to like all these spring training games
[00:39:27] for all these different teams and so I'm really pumped to have them on especially since Major League
[00:39:31] Baseball did just kick off so I'm pumped to have them so you'll hear them I've got another guest
[00:39:36] that is an incredible young man who's doing some things in the community and you want to talk
[00:39:41] about making a difference and seeing things and meeting people where they are and asking the questions
[00:39:48] what can I do what can I do and I am so inspired by him and I cannot wait to introduce all of you to him
[00:39:57] because he is truly like he is truly going to make a difference I mean heck he already is so
[00:40:06] we're gonna have more things like that and I just I feel way more energized about this
[00:40:12] than I did coming out of January I'm very excited to have had the break and to come back
[00:40:19] into it and to make a few changes I'm also very excited to gotten this first episode of season two
[00:40:26] out of the way but I hope no one takes offense to the fact that it is called my way and the reason
[00:40:32] I hope you don't take offense to it is because honest to God if you really don't like it then you can
[00:40:36] go start your own podcast but you know what I'm the one here doing it and putting in the time so
[00:40:40] it is going to be a little bit of my way it is going to be my way and for so long I've sat back
[00:40:45] and I probably sat in a job that was emotionally draining and was not healthy for me
[00:40:54] and I sat there and I cannot beat myself up for it because that's not healthy either but I'm
[00:41:00] going to take what I learned from that and I'm going to continue to just keep moving forward because
[00:41:04] that's all I can do and so yeah you're gonna see my way and how I view the world and the things
[00:41:12] that I see and that I want to have conversations about and I'm willing to have conversations about
[00:41:18] and I want to to be there and to be a better human to my fellow humans what's bothering you
[00:41:27] what do you want to talk about what do you think isn't talked about enough so this is my way of
[00:41:31] being able to do that this is my way of being able to reach people and hopefully show them that
[00:41:38] there are people out there that care and that want to hear their perspectives so on that note
[00:41:47] it's time to wrap it up and you'll hear me again I'm hoping this Thursday but I feel like every
[00:41:52] time I tell you guys like I'm gonna have an episode on a certain day I never do so it'll either be
[00:41:57] this coming Thursday which will be April the 4th or it will be oh we got to that which will be
[00:42:02] April the 11th so you'll hear me on a Thursday but it's gonna happen so in the meantime like I
[00:42:11] said earlier if you got anything anything you want to talk about you want to hear me talk about
[00:42:17] you want me to put it out on Twitter or something and get a poll response I'm here for it just let
