Takes on College Football: Against the Spread, Week Five

It's our weekly coverage of college football against the spread!

It’s Week Five, and anything can still happen on the field. There are a few teams who really haven’t figured out who they are, so we don’t know who they are, either. But we’ll try! Here are our speculations on the best bets of the week! Jump on them while they’re hot!

Satisfaction, unlike Mick Jagger, is what I get when I only have one loss for a weekend. But I want more than satisfaction. I want a few undefeated weekends in a row. Wisconsin, you ain’t looking too good, and I thank you none for my one loss last week. Let’s get it fixed.

Michigan (+2) at Wisconsin — I don’t like this pick any more than you do, but I’m here to make money. I feel like the Wolverines win this one by at least two touchdowns and with that sort of gut reaction, I have to like this line.

Oregon (-8) at Stanford — I think any good bettor will tell you to find a team or two that you can count on (or “ride,” if we’re using the parlance) At the very least, you want to get comfortable with a team’s tendencies. In years past for me, those teams have been Oregon State, Kansas State, and Iowa State (a suspicious mind may point out I need to stick with the “state” teams). This year, it may well be Stanford. I see Oregon winning on the road by 13 points. I don’t like picking road teams to cover frequently, but I’ll gamble here.

Ole Miss (+14.5) at Alabama — I hate this pick. I do. What am I doing? Ugh.

As good as I looked early last week with that Notre Dame pick, Texas A&M made me look just as bad. Michigan State… what a beat, man. A couple of big tilts in the SEC this weekend, and a few sneaky good games around the country.

Tennessee at Missouri (-2.5) — I don’t feel great about picking someone who just lost to Boston College (although the Eagles are unbeaten), but Tennessee on the road? Hahaha.

Oklahoma at Kansas State (+11.5) — We’ve seen this movie before, and it never ends well for the Sooners. The Wildcats are a different beast in Manhattan, and Oklahoma has yet to do anything to make me feel good about my preseason pick of them to win it all.

*Game of the Week* Arkansas (+18) at Georgia — We’re about to find about what Arkansas is really about. We’re also about to find out if Georgia can score on a defense worth a damn. My guess is not enough to cover that spread.

Note: All games are Against the Spread. Odds are taken from the MGM Sportsbook.
