Taking It Down 97: A Texas Monkey, Music from Springsteen and Oasis, Joe Pera’s Return, and The Great on Hulu

You don’t want to miss this one: come for the monkey story, stay for the pop culture riffs.

This week on the Taking It Down podcast, Adam recounts his days as a minister, or at least as an officiant of a wedding or two (1:31). Then it’s on to a discussion about the weekend of college football, but things get insane and funny when the weeks-old story of the Texas monkey who had a brief layover in and around the University of Alabama rears its head again (3:38). If you haven’t heard that one, don’t miss Adam’s telling of it.

The weekend was a good one, though, if you like music: we discuss the live music from Oasis and Bruce Springsteen as well as the tease of more from U2 (15:32).

Returning to Adult Swim is the wonderful show Joe Pera Talks With You, which we adore and explain why no one should miss out (27:34). Also returning, Hulu’s hilarious take on Catherine the Great of Russia — simply titled The Great — is back and just as funny (34:16). We decide that it could be even better than before. All that, and not to mention some excitement on the horizon (44:33)!
