Blaine Duncan
Last weekend, we all got one correct and three wrong. This is definitely the place to scrutinize before making any bets.
Miami (-20.5) at Wake Forest (Friday Night Game) – What keeps the Hurricanes from winning by six touchdowns or more?
SMU at Louisville (-1.5) – Such a low line, and at home, it’s hard not to talk about the Cardinals: they’re the team that a top ten Ole Miss team had to beat in the final seconds. As for the Mustangs, they barely scraped by against a wailing Florida State. Give me Louisville.
Virginia Tech (-3) at Maryland – It’s almost that time for the Terrapins to fall apart; they’ve garnered two wins already. The Hokies seem to have found their man with James Franklin at head coach. I like Virginia Tech to flex on the road.
NFL Game of the Week
Vikings at Bears (-4.5) – I’d prefer a lower line, but the Bears should be able to run the ball down the Vikings’ throats. Not to mention that Minnesota needed a huge comeback in order to win their first game last week. The Vikings get their first loss this Sunday.
TD Wood
Well, we all took one on the chin last week, but that’s why we have early season adjustments. A sneaky good slate this weekend, highlighted of course by the soap opera taking place in Oxford, Mississippi.
Miami (-20.5) at Wake Forest (Friday Night Game) – I’m with Blaine, here. I don’t see how the Hurricanes don’t cover this spread easily given how they’ve looked so far.
Georgia (-24.5) at Arkansas – Wouldn’t usually take two big road favorites in the same weekend, but man does Arkansas look bad, and Georgia has looked dangerous as hell. Maybe the Hogs show some fight early on, but I don’t see how they keep this one close in the end.
Mississippi State at South Carolina (OVER 58.5) – These two offenses are on fire and I expect we’ll see a fireworks show in Columbia on Saturday afternoon. This is a sleeper for the real game of the week.
NFL Game of the Week
Dolphins at 49ers (-13.5) – Might be a solid strategy to just go against Miami all season until it stops working, if it ever does. I wonder if any NFL team has ever gone winless ATS over an entire season?
Mallory McCormack
Welcome to Week Three! If you aren’t already in Oxford, stay home! We’re full. (Also send meds and calming thoughts.) But seriously, I don’t know how the game is gonna go so let’s focus on something besides Ole Miss and LS-ewww.
Kentucky at Texas A&M (-17) – Kentucky looked good for a half. A hot day in Texas isn’t going to help them this week.
Troy at Missouri (-24.5) – I’m thinking Simmons and Honeycomb are still gonna hit that stride.
Florida (-2) at Auburn – Florida looks so good. That’s Sumrall for you. Auburn is a tough place to play, but I think Florida is ready.
NFL Game of the Week
Jaguars at Broncos (-2.5) – I don’t like any game this week, so I took a stab at this. I think the Chiefs are that good, and Denver isn’t bad.
Greg Bosworth
It was a tough Week Two, so nothing to do but to get back at it and add to the wins column.
Kentucky at Texas A&M (-17) – The Aggies really showed me something last weekend getting the big win over Arizona State, and this is a tough spot for Kentucky coming off the Alabama game. A&M’s defense should have a big day against the Wildcats, which will be the difference in this game.
Mississippi State (+4) at South Carolina – The Bulldogs got a huge road win a week ago, and I wouldn’t be shocked if they do the same in Columbia tomorrow afternoon. Kamario Taylor is a star, and as long as he is under center, the Bulldogs have a chance. This is a huge game for South Carolina as well with hopes of heading to Tuscaloosa undefeated. This should be a fun, close game and one of my favorite games of this weekend.
Western Michigan at Rice (+9.5) – Going on the road is never easy, especially when you might be looking ahead to next week’s huge game against Boise State. That being said, I expect the Owls to keep it closer than most would expect.
NFL Game of the Week
Panthers (-2.5) at Falcons – Carolina put up a boat load of points a week ago, but their problem was that the defense couldn’t stop a nose bleed. If there is any cure for your defense, it is playing an Atlanta offense that has no good choice at the quarterback position. Winning an early division game will be huge for the Panthers as they look to keep the South crown.
