Football season peaks! Games abound! And were it not for Greg, the writers would all have some bad records for Week Six. Each Friday afternoon, join the four writers from The Alabama Take as they make the best (and worst) predictions on college and NFL games. They’ll lose a lot, cry some, and make plenty of friends along the way. And in the meantime, be sure to check out Takin’ On Sports, a weekly sports show with a focus on the SEC.

This is my worst season, and I’ve no clue how to turn it around. I do feel confident about the games this week, but that’s often the case. It’s not a pretty life. Plus, this is the last season where college football is even remotely okay before the twenty-four team playoff. What idiots.
Mississippi State (+15.5) at LSU – The biggest line move I can recall from this season is this game. It started with State-11.5, which could translate into a fumble for me here. I still like the quarterback play from Kamario Taylor, and I am not impressed with the Tigers despite their victories of late.
Tulsa (-4) at Rice – This boils down to two things: Tulsa is better than their record indicates and Rice is pretty bad.
Wisconsin at UCLA (-2.5) – This will definitely be one I’ll lose. It confuses me on why the line isn’t higher. The Bruins are on a roll, and they’re one of the best teams on the West Coast. The Badgers have a nice record, but it’s about that time of the year where they begin putting themselves out of the Big Ten Championship hunt.
NFL Game of the Week
Bills (-4.5) at Raiders – The NFL has usually been where I’ll pick up a win to end the weekend. Alas, I’m out of tune with the teams for whatever season. I do like Buffalo here, though, and I can’t see a reason why they don’t win by seven.
TD Wood
Man, what a schedule we have this weekend. Can’t wait until weekends like these mean less when we move to a 24-team CFP. Why do the people who run this sport hate the sport?
(Friday Night) Appalachian State at Coastal Carolina (+1) – I’m going with the Chanticleers purely because of the cool-ass uniforms they’re busting out.
Kentucky (+6.5) at Oklahoma – Man, I think that line is just straight disrespectful to the Cats. You can’t take too much from the Sooners’ Red River win, that game exists in a parallel dimension. Will Stein vs Brent Venables will be a fun chess match to watch.
Cincinnati at West Virginia (OVER: 63.5) – Neither of these teams is particularly interested in playing defense, and both are pretty damn good at running the ball. This one has a late 2000s Big East feel to it, and that’s awesome.
NFL Game of the Week
Jets at Patriots (-7) – New England looks to be in a groove now, I don’t think the Jets will pose much of a threat here.
Mallory McCormack
Well, this season has been bad for me. It’s sad when I get excited about 2-2. But it’s a new week and another chance to do horrible. But hopefully not as horrible as some of the calls last week (looking at you refs and Commanders).
Virginia at SMU (-9) – In Dallas and only 9 pts? Pony up, y’all!
Alabama (-7.5) at Tennessee – I feel like Bama bounces back and goes out to prove something. Also that orange is awful. And they low down, they dirty, they some snitches…
North Carolina at Duke (-3) – I saw David Cutcliffe this week and he made Duke football relevant so Duke. Plus ewww not the creepy old man and his weird young girlfriend.
NFL Game of the Week
Cowboys at Packers (-1) – I worry that if the Cowboys continue to be wonderfully horrible, I may enjoy it a little too much. Packers at home? No Lambeau leaps for Dak.
Greg Bosworth
The Third Saturday in October is here, the two best teams in the Big Ten square off in Bloomington, and to top things off we get to see how raucous Provo can get when Notre Dame comes to town. As epic as Week Six was, this week has the potential to top it.
Ohio State (-3) at Indiana – Indiana doesn’t seem like they are as good as last year, but it’s still hard to pick against Cignetti. The Hoosiers have had a few close encounters but it feels like this is the week the magic runs out. The Buckeyes can’t afford a second loss in mid October and this will be a huge Heisman stage for Jeremiah Smith to shine on. Call me crazy, but I have the road favorites winning comfortably.
Missouri at Ole Miss (OVER: 58.5) – Austin Simmons returning to Oxford will be very interesting, and I expect a huge day from him. The Tigers have a very solid running game, and I don’t have any confidence in the Rebels’ defense to slow down the ground game either. Trinidad Chambliss will have his normal big time performance, and this will be a high scoring affair. The over will get blown by easily, and this game will come down to which QB has the ball last.
Nebraska (+6.5) at Oregon– The Huskers look to bounce back after last week’s heartache, and the Ducks look to solve their QB situation as they go another week without QB1 with their playoff hopes on life support. I really hope we get to see Dylan Raiola go against his former school in what should be a wild highly entertaining game in a rare Big Ten way-after-dark matchup.
NFL Game of the Week
Cowboys at Packers (-1) – As a pessimistic Cowboys fan, this matchup has been very unfriendly in some of the most painful ways ever since the Dez catch in the playoffs. I expect a high scoring affair that comes down to the last possession, and until I see it for myself, unfortunately, I have to go with Green Bay covering as usual.
