Taking Bets: Week 5 - Steer Into the Skid

TD was able to keep it at 50% last week, but Blaine sucked once again with only one game making money. Check in with The Alabama Take every Friday afternoon to see what our bettors think are the sure wins football. And go the opposite route!

[In grandfather voice] You know, there was a time when I used to win.

Michigan at Iowa (+10.5) -- The logic here is that Michigan is unproven and liable to lose a game or two this season. This could be the first. Take into account that Iowa is usually tough at home, and I like getting points.

Alabama at Arkansas (+17) -- I'm not saying Sam Pittman will be downing "ol' cold beer" after this one, but I don't have a lot of faith in this particular Tide team. The talent is there, but there's no gel to this crew. Bryce Young and Will Anderson, Jr. are making plays and will get the win, but I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't a touchdown win by Alabama.

LSU at Auburn (+8) -- Seeing the pattern this week? Home teams getting points. That's safe. And with Auburn, I'm just steering into this skid. They should've won that Missouri game about as much as I should've married a supermodel millionaire. That's the way it is with Auburn. Watch: they'll win this game against LSU, the second set of tigers they'll beat in as many weeks. Damn.

NFL Game of the Week: Bears at Giants (-3) -- Saquon Barkley looks fully healthy from his horrible injury last season and Daniel Jones is a competent enough quarterback to get a win over the Bears on Sunday.

Not too thrilled about back-to-back 2-2 weeks, but not overly worried, either. The Colts were in desperation mode, and I should’ve seen the red flag that the line was less than a touchdown. Let’s bounce back this week.

Iowa State @ Kansas (+3) — PUT SOME RESPECT ON THE JAYHAWKS NAME.

Purdue @ Minnesota (-12.5) — The Golden Gophers are electric on offense, and Purdue’s defense is less than stellar. The Boilermakers’ two wins are over FCS Indiana State and a two-point win at home over FAU. Minnesota is unbeaten and is scoring over 45 points a game and has allowed 0, 10, 7, and 7 points this season. I like the home team big.

Cal @ Washington State (-4) — Wazzu had a terrible 4th quarter against Oregon last week, so they’re primed for a bounce back game. The Cougars will be out to prove a point before their big trip to Los Angeles next weekend to play USC. Cal is a decent team, but Pullman is a tough place to win.

NFL Game of the Week: Chiefs @ Ravens (Over 51) — These are two of the most prolific offenses in the league, with Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson the early season favorites for MVP. What makes me love the over is the fact that both defenses are pretty banged up. The Ravens did well to close out the game against New England last week, but the Bills offense is miles ahead of the Patriots. This is gonna be a shootout.
