...in which 3 Buttholes discuss "Skeleton Crew".
[00:00:04] Hello there, my name is Corey and I am a Star War.
[00:00:08] And my name is Corey and I am also a Star War.
[00:00:11] And my name is Jim and I am a Star War.
[00:00:14] And we are a Star War.
[00:00:18] And CJ's a Star War too.
[00:00:20] CJ is a Star War.
[00:00:20] She's sitting at the table, she's close to the microphone.
[00:00:23] A-S.
[00:00:24] A-S.
[00:00:24] A-S.
[00:00:25] A-S.
[00:00:25] Star War.
[00:00:26] So today we're going to be discussing the first four episodes and maybe a little beyond
[00:00:32] what we think is going to happen of the Skeleton Crew.
[00:00:36] Skeleton Crew.
[00:00:37] Skeleton Crew.
[00:00:38] This is our most well-scheduled recording.
[00:00:42] That's true.
[00:00:43] Unfortunately, you probably won't hear this until like March.
[00:00:46] That's true.
[00:00:47] That's on Producer Corey.
[00:00:49] I'd be behind.
[00:00:49] I'll do this before I edit because I still haven't edited Empire Strikes Back.
[00:00:53] We know.
[00:00:54] And we just recorded Jedi.
[00:00:56] We just recorded Jedi.
[00:00:57] I will try to get this one out in the next week or so.
[00:01:00] We live in two timelines.
[00:01:02] But it's also Christmas breaks.
[00:01:02] So we'll see how that happens.
[00:01:04] Yeah.
[00:01:05] This is Christmas.
[00:01:06] So that lets you know how long it takes Corey to make this.
[00:01:08] Listen.
[00:01:09] It's Christmas right now.
[00:01:10] Get off me.
[00:01:11] She can't rush art.
[00:01:12] Right now it's Christmas 2017.
[00:01:18] Trump's almost out of office and we're very excited.
[00:01:21] We're sure he'll be impeached any day now.
[00:01:23] And we'll never have to hear from him again.
[00:01:28] Okay.
[00:01:29] So this show, and I just learned this.
[00:01:32] Maybe you already knew this, but this is directed by, written by, and the showrunner is John Watts,
[00:01:37] who is the director of the three star Spider-Man Homecoming.
[00:01:43] Oh, yeah.
[00:01:43] That's right.
[00:01:44] So they brought him over from the MCU.
[00:01:47] Yeah.
[00:01:48] Cool.
[00:01:49] So that's good.
[00:01:50] I like that guy.
[00:01:51] I like those movies.
[00:01:51] I like those movies.
[00:01:52] Yeah.
[00:01:53] Those movies are centered around, you know, teenagers.
[00:01:56] So it's, it's John Watts and Christopher Ford, who is a screenwriter who also wrote a couple
[00:02:03] other movies that John Watts directed that I haven't heard of, but yeah, I like those
[00:02:09] Spider-Man movies.
[00:02:11] So this is his attempt at Goonies in space.
[00:02:14] Goonies in space is the thesis.
[00:02:17] Also throw in some space camp in there.
[00:02:19] And some space camp.
[00:02:20] A lot of space camp.
[00:02:22] Yeah.
[00:02:22] A little bit of the explorers.
[00:02:25] Right.
[00:02:25] I think, don't you call this, I mean, you're calling this show skeleton things, right?
[00:02:31] Instead of skeleton crew, it's the stranger things of Star Wars.
[00:02:34] It took me three tries to get through the first episode and I thought it was stranger things.
[00:02:38] Yeah.
[00:02:39] I was like, are we going to.
[00:02:40] So speaking of the first episode, what is the summary for the first episode?
[00:02:44] The first episode is called, this could be a real adventure.
[00:02:48] Please don't read the summary in that voice.
[00:02:50] That's the title.
[00:02:51] I was like, this is a cool trick.
[00:02:53] I'll try spinning.
[00:02:54] Yeah.
[00:02:55] This is where they try spinning and we know you'll win a pod race.
[00:02:58] Of course.
[00:03:02] We mean finish this time.
[00:03:05] Oh man.
[00:03:06] So somewhere in outer space, Captain Silvo leads a raid on a ship.
[00:03:11] They don't find anything.
[00:03:12] There's a mutiny cut to, and then there's like 45 more minutes of show that they didn't need.
[00:03:19] But that's the summary.
[00:03:19] No, that's just the first paragraph or the first sentence.
[00:03:23] Uh, so then we go to at Adden and we meet Wim and Neil.
[00:03:27] There's a two school children.
[00:03:30] That's a very long thing.
[00:03:32] So don't, yeah, don't read the whole thing.
[00:03:34] Um, we see them ride their bicycles, which hover.
[00:03:39] We see them going to school.
[00:03:41] We see them playing with star Wars toys.
[00:03:42] We see them looking at like iPads, an electronic iPad thing.
[00:03:46] That's got like a, uh, tales of the Jedi.
[00:03:50] Middle class star Wars.
[00:03:51] Right.
[00:03:51] Yeah.
[00:03:52] Isn't that what it is?
[00:03:53] And it's like on a suburb.
[00:03:54] Yeah.
[00:03:54] It looks like the same place where like ET landed.
[00:03:56] It also looks a little bit like the, uh, earth two from guardians of the galaxy.
[00:04:02] That's what I was thinking the whole time too.
[00:04:03] I was like, this is like close enough to earth.
[00:04:05] Uh huh.
[00:04:06] It's a little weird.
[00:04:08] Some people have trunks.
[00:04:10] And they have their end of the year assessment instead of their SAT.
[00:04:13] Is that guy the same species as the keyboard player?
[00:04:19] I've seen speculation on, on, uh, on the internet.
[00:04:23] Neil.
[00:04:23] Yeah.
[00:04:24] It's a good name for him, right?
[00:04:25] He's the ski.
[00:04:26] I mean, let the, the, each of these kids are just archetypes and like, he's the, the afraid
[00:04:31] one.
[00:04:31] He's scared all the time.
[00:04:32] So he kneels down.
[00:04:33] His name is Neil.
[00:04:35] Yeah.
[00:04:35] Him named Jeff.
[00:04:37] Him named Jeff.
[00:04:39] I'm sure that he will have a heroic redemption moment.
[00:04:42] I hope so.
[00:04:43] We had one, a little bit of one in episode four.
[00:04:46] I did.
[00:04:47] You ain't seen it, did you?
[00:04:49] I saw it.
[00:04:49] Did you watch it?
[00:04:50] I watched all of it.
[00:04:50] Yeah.
[00:04:51] You synced it?
[00:04:52] The whole thing.
[00:04:54] I wrote down, I wrote down a sentence about each thing.
[00:04:59] Anyway, we meet some school children on a weird planet.
[00:05:03] And, uh, one of them in a very long sequence, which does not include the red hot chili peppers,
[00:05:08] but it is in the woods and he falls into a ravine.
[00:05:11] And just like flight of the navigator finds a spaceship.
[00:05:15] Although it takes us 20 minutes to figure out a spaceship.
[00:05:17] Cause he thinks it's a Jedi temple and he has to involve other children on accident.
[00:05:22] Yada, yada.
[00:05:24] I thought it was Jedi temple.
[00:05:26] It's fine.
[00:05:26] Be a temple.
[00:05:27] I don't know where we are.
[00:05:28] I didn't even know what year this, oh, so we should probably say that this start, this
[00:05:32] is part of like the Mando.
[00:05:34] Oh, that's right.
[00:05:35] That's right.
[00:05:35] This is post empire.
[00:05:37] The empire has fallen.
[00:05:40] The new Republic is.
[00:05:43] That's right.
[00:05:43] Because it opens with, uh, the, the freighter being boarded by the pirates and the captain
[00:05:49] of the freighters like we're protected by new Republic decree.
[00:05:53] Yeah.
[00:05:54] And I'm like, they have blown half of your ship wide open.
[00:05:57] Yeah.
[00:05:57] They do not care.
[00:05:58] They don't care.
[00:05:58] Uh-uh.
[00:05:59] What you got to say.
[00:06:01] You holding back?
[00:06:02] What about you sideburns?
[00:06:04] Uh, so anyway, they're in the ship.
[00:06:06] He's getting in trouble for being tardy or something.
[00:06:09] And his dad is mad at him.
[00:06:10] And so he comes to find him.
[00:06:13] But just as he gets there, the ship takes off with four children inside.
[00:06:18] And your whole argument is that's about 45 minutes.
[00:06:21] That's where the show should have started.
[00:06:23] That's where the show should have started is four buddies.
[00:06:25] Should have started with two kids.
[00:06:26] And one of them says, look, I told you, look at this thing I found.
[00:06:29] And then two other kids show up and they're like, you're not supposed to be here.
[00:06:34] We called claimsies.
[00:06:35] All that part's fine.
[00:06:36] I got dibs.
[00:06:37] You get a little, I get that it's maybe a little too long, but like you get the whole,
[00:06:43] Oh, CJ.
[00:06:44] You get the whole back thing about Wim wants, he's the adventurous kid.
[00:06:48] He wants, he's obsessed with the Jedi.
[00:06:51] He's the one playing with the Jedi toys.
[00:06:52] By the way, for those of us who paid attention in English and literature, Wim is short for whimsical.
[00:06:58] This is the, okay, nevermind.
[00:07:00] It totally did not occur to me.
[00:07:02] I feel like they could, they could.
[00:07:04] I was trying, not trying to be a dick.
[00:07:06] They could flesh all that out in the adventure we're going on.
[00:07:09] Yeah.
[00:07:09] We don't have to have three days at school first.
[00:07:12] I agree.
[00:07:13] I agree.
[00:07:13] And you know, Wim is the, not Wim, Neil is the scared kid.
[00:07:17] Yeah.
[00:07:18] Yeah.
[00:07:19] KB is all about technology, which is why her name's an abbreviation.
[00:07:23] I didn't hate it as much as you did.
[00:07:24] I, it, it was not my favorite episode.
[00:07:28] I really love the concept.
[00:07:30] I am showing up for the concept.
[00:07:32] I love the idea about a TV show about Star Wars pirates.
[00:07:36] There have been so many, it's like pirates is, is this whole other genre, sub genre of characters in the Star Wars world where we've got Jedi and we've got Sith and we've got stormtroopers and we've got, we've got the, we've got bounty hunters and gangsters.
[00:07:49] And now we've got pirates and they've certainly embraced that in, in third season of Mandalorian with the pirate episode.
[00:07:57] In fact, I don't know the character's name, but the one guy who got away from the assault, the pirate assault on Navarro is in that first episode.
[00:08:06] He's in the boarding party on, on whatever that ship is.
[00:08:10] Good eye.
[00:08:11] I saw that on TikTok.
[00:08:12] Yeah.
[00:08:12] I don't have TikTok.
[00:08:14] I just remembered.
[00:08:15] I'm not as, as observant as you.
[00:08:17] I just remembered.
[00:08:22] Yeah.
[00:08:22] So in this episode of Jimmy Smart.
[00:08:26] So that's the end of the first episode is they take off.
[00:08:29] Yeah.
[00:08:30] The second episode starts.
[00:08:32] Second episode is titled way, way out past the barrier.
[00:08:35] Before we get into that, let's, let me ask, this is just a question because the show's not done.
[00:08:40] We don't know where it's going.
[00:08:41] And, you know, folks have watched the first four episodes are out of the listening to the show.
[00:08:47] They've probably seen them.
[00:08:49] We were talking earlier about how the two biggest mysteries so far are Jude Law's character and who he really is and the significance of the planet at Atten.
[00:09:02] Do you think we needed that long 40 minute intro on at Atten showing the mundane existence and the Fern's mom is the administrator or is some person high up?
[00:09:19] Subsecretary.
[00:09:20] Like, yeah.
[00:09:21] The undersecretary.
[00:09:22] Yeah.
[00:09:22] Like, do you think that we're going to, they're going to come back around to how these, these kids grow up to become the adults who run this mystery hidden planet?
[00:09:32] Like that we needed it because of that.
[00:09:35] Maybe.
[00:09:36] Maybe so.
[00:09:37] Maybe if they, if they didn't give us backstory on the planet, it would be weird when everybody else is like, it's a myth.
[00:09:42] Right.
[00:09:42] Then we wouldn't understand.
[00:09:44] And so whatever, whatever's keeping the planet secret, the adults on the, on the planet are a part of that.
[00:09:50] Or some of the adults on the planet are part of that.
[00:09:53] But none of that intrigue is in this first episode.
[00:09:56] None of it.
[00:09:57] No.
[00:09:57] I just decided in my head that I'm going to spend this podcast watching you try to convince him that this is a good show.
[00:10:03] Oh, no, I'm not going to do that.
[00:10:05] I don't think it's a good show.
[00:10:06] I think it's, I think it's fun.
[00:10:08] But you enjoy it.
[00:10:10] I enjoy parts of it.
[00:10:12] I am.
[00:10:13] Go back to watch the first episode of Mandalorian.
[00:10:16] That first episode puts you in your seat.
[00:10:19] Yeah.
[00:10:20] This first episode does not put you in your seat.
[00:10:23] I can bring you in warm.
[00:10:25] I can bring you in cold.
[00:10:27] Like this show does not have that at all.
[00:10:30] This episode.
[00:10:31] I did all four episodes again.
[00:10:31] What if my friend is late and he can't make it here in time for assessment?
[00:10:35] Shut up, student.
[00:10:37] Your assessment starts in three minutes.
[00:10:41] Tune in next week.
[00:10:41] When we find out if he took his assessment.
[00:10:45] I'm just going in with open and open mind.
[00:10:50] I'm here for the thesis.
[00:10:52] Goonies in space set in the Star Wars world.
[00:10:55] Sign me up.
[00:10:56] And that's why it gets all of my benefit of the doubt.
[00:10:59] I get your gripes.
[00:10:59] I understand your gripes.
[00:11:01] But there have been some moments here and there that I've really liked.
[00:11:04] And the overall feel of it, I enjoy.
[00:11:07] Like it looks a hell of a lot better than the Acolyte.
[00:11:10] Yes, it does.
[00:11:11] In terms of the sets and everything.
[00:11:13] And it just, it feels more like the Star Wars world than the Acolyte did.
[00:11:18] And I'm only complaining about the first episode because I do think it gets better as each episode goes along.
[00:11:24] Yeah, you're right.
[00:11:24] I agree with that.
[00:11:24] You're right.
[00:11:25] Yeah.
[00:11:26] I just jumped in.
[00:11:26] It feels to me like they made this show and they were like, every episode is about 30 minutes and it's going to be good.
[00:11:32] And they're like, awesome.
[00:11:33] And they're like, oh, we need to promote the first one as being a double.
[00:11:38] So make it 30 minutes longer.
[00:11:40] Make it twice as boring.
[00:11:41] Put them on the bike back in the woods again.
[00:11:43] For me, it is easier to watch it all at once because I watched the first two episodes the week they came out.
[00:11:49] Then I watched the third.
[00:11:50] Then I watched the fourth.
[00:11:51] And last night I watched them all top to bottom.
[00:11:53] And it did make a lot more sense.
[00:11:56] That's been my biggest complaint with all of these Star Wars shows is they build them like a movie cut up into pieces.
[00:12:02] And not all of them.
[00:12:04] They didn't do it with Andor.
[00:12:05] Andor is, you know, there are arcs.
[00:12:08] They tell a story within three episodes and they move on and they start a whole new set of, you know, character arcs.
[00:12:15] Andor was basically like three movies.
[00:12:17] Good movies.
[00:12:18] Yeah.
[00:12:18] Yeah.
[00:12:19] All right.
[00:12:19] Back to this one.
[00:12:20] All right.
[00:12:20] So the second movie.
[00:12:21] So the kids are trapped on a ship.
[00:12:22] It takes off in the end.
[00:12:23] Cut to credits.
[00:12:24] And then we had the good fortune of being able to immediately start the second episode, which was called.
[00:12:29] Way, way out past the barrier.
[00:12:32] And the barrier we come to find out is.
[00:12:34] Which at that moment.
[00:12:36] We didn't know what the hell the barrier was.
[00:12:37] I don't know what the barrier is.
[00:12:38] Right.
[00:12:39] But it's something.
[00:12:40] It's a part of the mystery that's keeping the planet hidden.
[00:12:45] So this one starts off with them.
[00:12:46] They're on the ship and they meet SM 33, which is their, the droid running that ship.
[00:12:53] Right.
[00:12:53] I do like that.
[00:12:54] The girl was like, well, I killed him and I'm your new pilot.
[00:12:57] I'm your new captain.
[00:12:58] Right.
[00:12:58] It's pretty cold.
[00:12:59] I was like, that's cool.
[00:13:00] I like this kid for that part.
[00:13:02] I love that the pirate droid has a rat living in his eye socket.
[00:13:07] Yeah.
[00:13:08] I kept thinking that like we were going to find out that the rat is him and the robot is just like what he drives around.
[00:13:16] Well, there's still time.
[00:13:17] There's still time.
[00:13:18] But that's what I thought it was going to be.
[00:13:19] I was like, that's kind of cool.
[00:13:21] Like it can be the person that's only that mean.
[00:13:24] But it's not.
[00:13:25] It's his robotech.
[00:13:26] Yeah.
[00:13:27] Uh, so then they go to what they think is just an outpost, but it's going to be like, it's like a den of villainy.
[00:13:37] It's a, I didn't watch that one recently when they take off.
[00:13:43] They, the kids jump to the hyperspace.
[00:13:45] They're gone immediately.
[00:13:47] And then they stop at one point.
[00:13:48] Right.
[00:13:48] And they're like, we don't know what the hell we're doing.
[00:13:51] That's when they activate SM 33.
[00:13:53] And he's the one that says, I got a place.
[00:13:57] I got, I know where we can go to get some help.
[00:13:59] Yeah.
[00:13:59] Okay.
[00:13:59] All right.
[00:14:00] Yeah.
[00:14:02] And it was funny when they get there and she's like, why did you bring us to a pirate stop?
[00:14:08] And he's like, cause we're pirates.
[00:14:11] And she's like, oh no.
[00:14:12] Okay.
[00:14:14] And apparently that ship smells like a fart.
[00:14:17] They must.
[00:14:19] Must.
[00:14:20] You musty.
[00:14:21] Avocados unhappy.
[00:14:22] Happy.
[00:14:23] Uh, so when they get there, that's when they start telling people that they're from Atten
[00:14:27] and everybody's like, what, what?
[00:14:29] And then they pull out a bunch of cash and to them it's lunch money, but to the rest of
[00:14:33] the world, it's riches.
[00:14:36] Um, so are, are they treating Atten as the lost city of gold?
[00:14:42] Yes.
[00:14:42] As in Eldorado, as in.
[00:14:45] Gold.
[00:14:46] Okay.
[00:14:47] Gold.
[00:14:47] Gold.
[00:14:49] The three people listening right now are going, the fuck?
[00:14:52] Yeah.
[00:14:52] Are they singing?
[00:14:53] Yeah.
[00:14:54] Were you guys not there in 1998 when we were laughing about that?
[00:14:57] Um, so then they get thrown into the jail cell.
[00:15:03] And when they're in the jail cell, they meet a guy who can get them out of the jail cell,
[00:15:09] but he was just waiting for somebody to come who had a ship, which is exactly what happened
[00:15:15] in the last Jedi.
[00:15:16] Oh yeah.
[00:15:17] They got a, they met.
[00:15:19] But it was Dumbledore.
[00:15:20] Yeah.
[00:15:20] But this time it's Dumbledore and he tells them that his name is, uh, I wrote it down.
[00:15:27] Jod, none I would.
[00:15:29] So we're using our made up names.
[00:15:31] Yeah.
[00:15:32] I mean, this is the guy.
[00:15:33] Spider-Man.
[00:15:34] Spider-Man.
[00:15:35] Spider-Man.
[00:15:36] Uh, and so then he says that he's force sensitive and they're like, Oh, you're a Jedi.
[00:15:41] Cause they know all about Jedis on this planet.
[00:15:43] That's completely.
[00:15:44] And to his credit, he never says he's a Jedi.
[00:15:48] He does not.
[00:15:49] Never.
[00:15:50] But he doesn't move stuff.
[00:15:51] I want, we'll get into that.
[00:15:52] Let's get, let's work through these summaries and then circle back to that.
[00:15:57] Uh, so they agreed to work together and then they, uh, go back to the ship.
[00:16:03] That's the end of the, that one was only like 20 minutes long.
[00:16:05] I swear.
[00:16:06] Yeah.
[00:16:07] The second one.
[00:16:08] So then third episode is called very interesting as an astrogation problem.
[00:16:15] Hmm.
[00:16:15] Hmm.
[00:16:16] But I was supposed to say that in an owl's voice, but I can't, I can't do owl.
[00:16:23] Uh, so this one.
[00:16:28] So much stuff's happening.
[00:16:29] So they escaped the brig, but they leave him and they have to go back and get SM 33.
[00:16:35] So let's talk about the escape for a second.
[00:16:37] Yeah.
[00:16:38] When they're escaping.
[00:16:39] Mm-hmm.
[00:16:40] Jude Law helps them.
[00:16:41] They get out.
[00:16:41] Right.
[00:16:42] And there's lots of stuff to kind of talk about there and how they got out.
[00:16:44] But once they get back to the ship, the kids kind of assert control and they're like, you
[00:16:49] have to go back and get the droid.
[00:16:51] Cause there was that really cool action sequence where SM 33 does save them from death.
[00:16:56] Yes.
[00:16:57] Once they get to the pirate port and he's got those laser shields and he's giving the
[00:17:01] pirates a hard time.
[00:17:02] Um, but when, when Jude Law's character, when whatever his name is, I'm not going to say
[00:17:09] it.
[00:17:10] I'm just going to say Dumbledore.
[00:17:11] When Dumbledore goes to get the robot, he brings him back and they're, he, he's followed
[00:17:18] by all of the pissed off pirates and they go to leave and they're tethered to the fuel
[00:17:24] line.
[00:17:25] Yep.
[00:17:26] And they're just stuck and they're pulling and they're wrecking all these ships and it's,
[00:17:30] you know, boats crashing into each other in the docks and the harbors.
[00:17:33] And I'm like, ah, the fuel line, this is a contrivance.
[00:17:37] Yeah.
[00:17:38] I'm like, yeah.
[00:17:38] Go back and watch the force awakens.
[00:17:40] It's the exact same thing that happens with Poe Dameron.
[00:17:43] When he's trying to steal the TIE fighter, the fuel line is caught on the X on the
[00:17:48] TIE fighter and they can't get out because it's stuck to the fuel line.
[00:17:52] Like even at the circle K, if you try to drive off, that thing's got to break away.
[00:17:56] It's got a thing that makes it pop off.
[00:17:58] There's no safety on a pirate port.
[00:17:59] Or apparently on a first order star destroyer.
[00:18:05] Continue.
[00:18:06] You're not wrong.
[00:18:08] So they take him to meet his friend, Kim.
[00:18:15] Her name is Kim, but she's an owl.
[00:18:20] Her name Kim.
[00:18:21] She's unsure.
[00:18:23] She calls him Crimson Jack.
[00:18:26] That's supposedly a thing from the old comics.
[00:18:29] I saw TikTok about that.
[00:18:30] There's an old character.
[00:18:32] Are you going to be okay when they close TikTok down?
[00:18:35] I just listen.
[00:18:38] Listen, Linda.
[00:18:40] That's how I spend my spare time.
[00:18:43] Are you going to go to the subordinate sheep?
[00:18:45] Knock off the Instagram head.
[00:18:47] I don't follow people I know.
[00:18:49] I don't get like this is.
[00:18:51] I don't need to see.
[00:18:52] You're not learning new dances?
[00:18:53] No, I'm getting on there for the giggles and puppies and some guitar lessons.
[00:18:59] Gigs and pups.
[00:19:00] I'm just here for gigs and pups.
[00:19:01] That's his other podcast.
[00:19:02] Gigs and pups.
[00:19:04] That's where I go to disassociate.
[00:19:06] The name of his character on that podcast is AIS.
[00:19:10] AIS.
[00:19:13] So anyway, Kim is a map expert.
[00:19:16] That's why she's an owl.
[00:19:18] And.
[00:19:20] Sure.
[00:19:21] And so she's like, she helps them not find their planet, but figure out how to find their planet.
[00:19:28] But she had also already called the X-Wings when she saw them pull up because she doesn't trust Captain Crimson Jack.
[00:19:36] Silvo.
[00:19:37] Not that would.
[00:19:39] And so.
[00:19:41] When they're trying to figure it out, the X-Wings show up and they have to escape from the X-Wings.
[00:19:47] And that's the end of the third episode.
[00:19:49] But they.
[00:19:50] So now they're on their way to what they think is.
[00:19:53] At Atten.
[00:19:54] Because they got some thing off a star chart, which involved some sort of inference.
[00:20:00] So this means this.
[00:20:01] So this must mean this is At Atten, but they weren't sure about it.
[00:20:05] Do you guys remember the Dark Crystal?
[00:20:10] It's been 23 or 24 years since I've seen it.
[00:20:14] But I don't remember.
[00:20:15] There was a sequence.
[00:20:16] There was a sequence in that in that movie where they go and they meet this witch character who is talking about the prophecy.
[00:20:22] And she's got this big planetarium type thing and this dome structure that she lives in.
[00:20:28] And the set design and the character of the Owl of Kim reminded me very much of that set piece from the Dark Crystal.
[00:20:36] And since this series is, you know, on purpose bringing in elements from the 80s and the, you know, childhood adventure movies of that era.
[00:20:46] I think a little bit of that probably came from the Dark Crystal.
[00:20:51] It's possible.
[00:20:52] Yeah, that makes sense.
[00:20:53] I'm not mad at it.
[00:20:55] I liked it.
[00:20:56] I like the Kim character.
[00:20:57] I like the owl.
[00:20:59] I bet she'd be better at her job if she had hands.
[00:21:04] It's got to be hard to be an animal with wings trying to cook yourself breakfast.
[00:21:10] She's an owl.
[00:21:11] Is she going to cook?
[00:21:12] Could she just go kill a rat?
[00:21:14] I guess she just eats mice.
[00:21:15] Yeah.
[00:21:15] Yeah.
[00:21:16] All right.
[00:21:18] Like the one inside the eyeball.
[00:21:20] Another problem of mine solved.
[00:21:20] You're right.
[00:21:22] She just eats rats and shit.
[00:21:25] Like the one living in the eyeball socket of the robot.
[00:21:28] Oh, she missed an opportunity there.
[00:21:30] Could have been a snack.
[00:21:32] Quasin.
[00:21:32] Watch yourself.
[00:21:36] Episode number four is called Can't Say I Remember No At Atten.
[00:21:41] Can't Say I Remember No At Atten.
[00:21:43] Can't Say I Don't Remember No At Atten.
[00:21:46] Which, like, I don't pick up, I don't guess things ahead of time.
[00:21:51] Mm-hmm.
[00:21:52] But he's-
[00:21:53] You think he remembers-
[00:21:54] After he said that twice, I was like, oh, it's in his brain.
[00:21:57] They just got to get it out because he does remember that and he's been programmed to say
[00:22:01] that.
[00:22:01] Like, that part felt so clear to me immediately.
[00:22:04] And I don't think of things.
[00:22:05] I don't watch this show with you guys anymore.
[00:22:06] I have the intellect of a five-year-old.
[00:22:11] This shit goes completely over my head.
[00:22:13] Did you know something else?
[00:22:15] Well, there was five minutes when he's like, yeah, I'm the one that burned off the fucking
[00:22:18] start shirt to At Atten.
[00:22:19] I did, but no, I didn't catch that shit beforehand.
[00:22:22] And when he's like, Can't Say I Don't Remember No At Atten.
[00:22:25] Well, it reminded me of-
[00:22:26] I was like, why is he fucking saying that over and over again?
[00:22:29] It reminded me of Westworld.
[00:22:31] On Westworld, whenever the robots, the androids aren't supposed to know that they're androids
[00:22:36] in a theme park.
[00:22:39] And so whenever like one of them sees a Polaroid of Times Square and they're not supposed to
[00:22:45] know what any of that means at all.
[00:22:47] So they look at it and they say, well, that doesn't look like anything to me.
[00:22:49] That's like their stock built-in response is when they see something that doesn't fit
[00:22:53] into their world or whatever, then their program just takes over and they say, oh,
[00:22:57] wait, you mean-
[00:22:58] That doesn't look like anything to me.
[00:22:58] You mean their worldview and their bias prevents them from seeing new information?
[00:23:03] Yeah.
[00:23:03] Oh, I'll be go to hell.
[00:23:04] I'll be goddamn.
[00:23:06] There you go.
[00:23:08] Fucking Professor Smart Brains over here.
[00:23:12] No.
[00:23:13] I'm the one that was geeking out about the owl.
[00:23:19] So they go to what they think is At Atten, but it turns out to be At Akron.
[00:23:25] As in Akrid.
[00:23:27] As in it's nasty.
[00:23:28] Here's one of my questions.
[00:23:30] And salty and sulfury.
[00:23:31] Smells like farts.
[00:23:33] It gets everywhere.
[00:23:35] How the hell did they, they had the coordinates for At Atten.
[00:23:40] Yeah.
[00:23:41] How did they end up in At Akron?
[00:23:42] Is that something else that just flew over my fucking head?
[00:23:45] No.
[00:23:45] I think she either lied to them or they didn't get the full download.
[00:23:50] I think when they were, when the X-Wing show up at the owl's house and they're trying to get the info, but they have to leave in a hurry.
[00:23:57] I feel like Jude Law runs in and he's like, I got it.
[00:24:01] We got to go.
[00:24:02] But he's wrong.
[00:24:03] Yeah.
[00:24:03] I think he got the wrong one.
[00:24:05] So the next episode starts with the owl and they're like, hmm, here's the rest of the fucking ticker tape or whatever.
[00:24:12] That's exactly the thing they wanted.
[00:24:13] Right.
[00:24:14] Looks like they left without it.
[00:24:16] Has everybody, since I'm not on the internet, has everybody else picked up that SM33 looks like Smee?
[00:24:22] No.
[00:24:23] Which is Captain Hook's little pirate buddy.
[00:24:26] No, I think that's amazing because what I was thinking is way stupider.
[00:24:32] I was thinking, I mean, it's like not even really that good, but I was thinking it was named after a microphone.
[00:24:37] I was thinking about SM58.
[00:24:40] Right.
[00:24:40] You're talking into one.
[00:24:42] I'm talking into an SM58.
[00:24:43] So, yeah, I can't know your idea.
[00:24:45] Your observation is probably spot on.
[00:24:48] I think, yeah.
[00:24:48] They were like, we need a Disney pirate.
[00:24:51] I think.
[00:24:52] Can't use Smee.
[00:24:53] Let's use Smee.
[00:24:53] I think if we can request that Stevie G, when he does the graphic for this episode, incorporate the artwork from Peter Pan.
[00:25:07] That's pretty clever.
[00:25:08] That's a request, Stevie G.
[00:25:13] I didn't love this episode.
[00:25:15] I thought this was kind of.
[00:25:16] Oh, shit.
[00:25:16] This was my favorite one.
[00:25:18] This one bored the piss out of me.
[00:25:20] Oh, here we are, not agreeing.
[00:25:22] And they're like, oh, hey, kids.
[00:25:24] We're kids, too.
[00:25:25] And they're like, not here.
[00:25:26] Here we are, war.
[00:25:27] I was so annoyed until like the last five minutes when Neil finally hits SM33 with the rock after they activated the memory of SM33.
[00:25:38] Mm-hmm.
[00:25:38] And he had his moment.
[00:25:40] I was like, okay, this paid off.
[00:25:41] Because the whole rest of the episode, I was like, this is some bullshit.
[00:25:45] Yeah.
[00:25:45] Yeah.
[00:25:45] It felt to me like an episode of, like an early episode of Clone Wars.
[00:25:49] Where it's like, we're on this planet.
[00:25:51] We got to help these people do this thing so we can all learn a lesson.
[00:25:55] I don't think it was.
[00:25:57] I don't think it felt like that was exactly what it was supposed to be.
[00:26:00] Because these kids have to learn how to get along in order to do whatever it is that they're hoping to do to get home.
[00:26:09] I don't know.
[00:26:09] No, that's not true.
[00:26:11] No.
[00:26:11] They have a robot that can fly their ship.
[00:26:13] They just need to know how to get back to their house.
[00:26:15] That's true.
[00:26:16] They don't have to learn about sharing and about how war is not as good as sharing and love.
[00:26:23] But why don't we sing?
[00:26:25] On our planet, we all sing and watch sitcoms.
[00:26:27] I did like though when, after Jod, is that his proper name?
[00:26:33] It's a ba-weep, na-na-weep, Renniebom.
[00:26:35] After he pushed the deactivation button.
[00:26:37] In Spanish it's called Yod.
[00:26:42] Is that my next Duolingo lesson?
[00:26:45] And I just got the reminder as we started this episode that I need to do my practice for today.
[00:26:50] Yod.
[00:26:50] But after he deactivates SM33 and they're all celebrating and he's like, oh, sorry.
[00:26:57] I'm the one that turned him off.
[00:26:59] But they're all congratulating Neil because Neil was the one that hit him with the rock and stuff.
[00:27:02] I thought that was cute.
[00:27:04] Him's all grown up.
[00:27:08] He had his moment.
[00:27:10] It was cool.
[00:27:10] What I liked about this episode, it was the first episode where Fern like actually had some depth showing her afraid.
[00:27:18] Oh, she was scared.
[00:27:19] That was, that was good.
[00:27:20] I like that.
[00:27:22] And I like that, you know, the, the, like we were talking about earlier, the planet, the earlier, the planet is a mystery.
[00:27:31] Right.
[00:27:31] Like Ad Aten clearly is El Dorado.
[00:27:34] The city of gold in reality doesn't exist.
[00:27:38] Doesn't exist.
[00:27:40] And so, you know, they're showing us there's something about why this planet fell, why it's the way it is.
[00:27:48] Supporting the mystery of, of what Ad Aten is.
[00:27:51] And I don't know.
[00:27:53] Ad Aten seems to have some sort of, like, maybe it's like a naturally occurring, like maybe there's a mineral or an ore or something there that is useful.
[00:28:03] Maybe that's where the galactic credits come from.
[00:28:05] Maybe, I don't know, maybe like a comet landed there one time.
[00:28:10] And so then they said, well, we have to protect this vibranium.
[00:28:13] So we have to build a secret barrier around it.
[00:28:17] And don't let anybody come in here.
[00:28:20] And if one of us can dress like a black cat and protect it, that would be great.
[00:28:24] Maybe that's, I don't know.
[00:28:26] Maybe that's where this is going.
[00:28:27] Could work.
[00:28:28] There's logic there.
[00:28:29] But I do think.
[00:28:30] It's Wakanda.
[00:28:31] He's talking about Wakanda.
[00:28:33] I'm talking about Wakanda.
[00:28:33] What?
[00:28:34] What?
[00:28:37] I enjoy the show overall.
[00:28:39] I did think that episode three was mostly a dud.
[00:28:43] But when you see the last few minutes of the episode, it all makes sense.
[00:28:47] But I like the feel, the overall feel and look of it.
[00:28:51] I like the vibes.
[00:28:52] Do you think?
[00:28:53] So you think it's delivering on the Goonies in space?
[00:28:55] I think so.
[00:28:56] Yeah.
[00:28:56] I'm not mad at it yet.
[00:28:58] I like it so far.
[00:29:00] It could be a major letdown or it could be something supremely awesome.
[00:29:04] We got to get Hondo.
[00:29:06] Do you think we're going to get Hondo?
[00:29:08] We have to get Hondo.
[00:29:10] It's the biggest tease ever if we don't get Hondo.
[00:29:12] Yeah.
[00:29:14] Because you all of a sudden give us fucking Cad Bane in the middle of season three of The
[00:29:19] Mandalorian or whatever.
[00:29:20] And no one's expecting that.
[00:29:21] Like you're expecting fucking Hondo here.
[00:29:24] Yeah.
[00:29:24] The show is about pirates.
[00:29:26] People complain about fan service, but I would like to see some things once in a while that
[00:29:31] I recognize.
[00:29:32] I think that instead of going to the Owl Lady, they should have gone to Maz Kanata, Cantana,
[00:29:36] whatever her freaking name is.
[00:29:38] Kanata.
[00:29:38] Yeah.
[00:29:39] They should have gone to her place.
[00:29:41] This would have been before her lair was taken down by the First Order, right?
[00:29:45] Yeah.
[00:29:46] At this point, Han Solo might be hanging out there.
[00:29:48] That's true.
[00:29:48] Because he's still alive too.
[00:29:50] Yep.
[00:29:50] But we don't have to see him.
[00:29:51] We can just go there.
[00:29:52] You know, she's got Luke's saber up on the wall.
[00:29:55] I do.
[00:29:56] And she's been around for 800 years just like Yoda.
[00:29:58] So she knows where stuff is and knows all these old legends and stuff.
[00:30:02] Like, why aren't we using a character like that?
[00:30:03] That's already out there.
[00:30:05] Yeah.
[00:30:05] But this one, it looks like an owl.
[00:30:07] You made a valid point, but I did like the owl character.
[00:30:11] I like that we're getting mostly new characters and we don't have to keep going back to the
[00:30:16] well.
[00:30:16] But I would at some point like to see.
[00:30:18] I mean, speaking of going back to the well, I'm telling you the the the Wolfman pirate
[00:30:25] character is is the Wolfman character from the cantina from A New Hope.
[00:30:30] Can we look that up?
[00:30:32] I mean, it may not be the same guy, but it's the same species.
[00:30:36] I'm going to see if I can use the Google.
[00:30:38] So overall in the show, you're the one that's so critical of the TV shows most of the time.
[00:30:43] Well, because oftentimes the pacing is all fucked up.
[00:30:46] But the show is fun.
[00:30:49] It is for kids like Acolyte was.
[00:30:53] So my.
[00:30:54] It's like the Hutsucker proxy.
[00:30:55] Yeah, it's for kids.
[00:30:57] The I thought the show was going to be something completely different.
[00:31:01] I listened to one of our episodes a while back and I had a theory on on what Skeleton
[00:31:07] Crew was going to be.
[00:31:08] And I was a way, way off.
[00:31:10] I thought it was going to be about the kids.
[00:31:13] No, no, no.
[00:31:13] That was Acolyte.
[00:31:14] I thought Acolyte was going to be like a David Fincher seven style take in the Star Wars
[00:31:18] world, which I still think would be a great show.
[00:31:20] But I thought this was going to be about the kids who were taken from their homes because
[00:31:28] they were for sensitive and they were being that it was basically a continuation of the.
[00:31:36] Yeah, that guy.
[00:31:37] That's the Wolfman from New Hope.
[00:31:39] That's the Wolfman.
[00:31:40] That's the pirate from the show.
[00:31:43] I think the pirate on this show is a little blacker.
[00:31:45] What color is his eyeball?
[00:31:47] Red.
[00:31:47] Red.
[00:31:47] What color is the eyeball of the Wolfman character on the pirate show?
[00:31:51] Do we have nards?
[00:31:53] He does have nards.
[00:31:53] He's going to get kicked in the nards.
[00:31:55] And I hope the kids say Wolfman's got nards.
[00:31:59] And that Wolfman is named Arleo Shush.
[00:32:07] The guy from the cantina?
[00:32:09] Yeah.
[00:32:10] And yeah, just so you know, you can Google Star Wars cantina aliens list.
[00:32:15] Oh, wow.
[00:32:16] And he's going to list Ham Dazin, Ponda Baba, Cardu, Simaloc.
[00:32:22] I think we should start a website called Them Cantina Characters.
[00:32:27] There's a guy just named Biff.
[00:32:29] So here's my question.
[00:32:31] That's their version of him named Jeff.
[00:32:32] That's one of the fucking cantina players.
[00:32:35] Move talk.
[00:32:36] Here's my question.
[00:32:37] Is these are all names that existed sometime after the movie?
[00:32:42] And is it just characters as some dick made up or are these characters that appear in a book?
[00:32:47] Yeah.
[00:32:48] Is this in a book somewhere?
[00:32:49] Right.
[00:32:49] How do these names exist?
[00:32:51] What are the baguettes?
[00:32:53] Yeah.
[00:32:54] That's a whole other episode that we're going to make.
[00:32:57] That's a valid question.
[00:32:58] I wonder that too.
[00:32:59] Because also when I clicked on that guy, there was a whole Wikipedia page about him and his backstory.
[00:33:06] That wolf man.
[00:33:07] So is that wolf man connected to this show?
[00:33:11] I didn't read it.
[00:33:13] He's a bounty hunter in that, it said.
[00:33:16] Sure.
[00:33:17] And the other one's a pirate.
[00:33:18] They're brothers.
[00:33:18] Different guys.
[00:33:20] They're not the same guy, but they're the same species.
[00:33:23] That's all I'm saying.
[00:33:24] I don't think it's the same guy.
[00:33:25] I think it's the same.
[00:33:26] You've said it's the same guy.
[00:33:27] It's the same critter.
[00:33:28] You think you've said it's the same guy.
[00:33:30] It's the same critter.
[00:33:30] It's the same guy.
[00:33:32] Same species?
[00:33:33] What?
[00:33:34] Or the same dude?
[00:33:35] Was I there?
[00:33:35] Yeah.
[00:33:41] So Star Wars and Goonies in space, the Explorers, Flight of the Navigator, Space Camp.
[00:33:49] What else?
[00:33:51] Someone described it as basically a love letter to Amblin Entertainment, and I thought that made sense.
[00:33:57] That certainly was true in the third episode when they're walking against the silhouette of the, like, backlit by the moon.
[00:34:03] Yeah.
[00:34:04] Right?
[00:34:05] Because Amblin was Spielberg's studio.
[00:34:07] And those, the hover bikes that they're driving have, like, baskets on them.
[00:34:12] They look like children's bikes from E.T.
[00:34:17] And the neighborhood looks like the same as E.T.
[00:34:19] Yep.
[00:34:21] Hell yeah.
[00:34:24] Yeah.
[00:34:25] Like, Star Wars gives us all these different planets.
[00:34:29] Ice planet.
[00:34:30] Lava planet.
[00:34:31] Right here.
[00:34:31] This is the San Fernando Valley planet.
[00:34:35] The Inland Empire planet.
[00:34:38] Okay, Corey.
[00:34:39] We've talked about our thoughts and our fifis.
[00:34:41] Yeah.
[00:34:43] Now it's time for your thoughts and fifis.
[00:34:45] Oh.
[00:34:46] Was that what I was saying?
[00:34:47] I mean, you kind of have all along.
[00:34:48] You've been kind of leading the episode by, you know, guiding us through the summaries.
[00:34:52] Yeah.
[00:34:53] I just, I mean, it's getting better.
[00:34:55] It went from, I hate this.
[00:34:57] When will this stop?
[00:34:58] For the whole first 45 minutes.
[00:35:00] And then I was like, oh, okay, something happened.
[00:35:02] That's kind of cool.
[00:35:03] We could have started there.
[00:35:05] It's been better.
[00:35:07] I hate to say that, like, I don't like child actors.
[00:35:12] But it's, like, so hard for child actors to be great.
[00:35:17] And I don't want to, like, denigrate the kids who are working very hard on the show and doing good.
[00:35:23] It's just like, like, they're just never going to move me.
[00:35:27] And I think as.
[00:35:29] Unless they're River Phoenix in Stand By Me.
[00:35:31] And I think it's a hard bar to.
[00:35:33] Late 40 year olds were not the target audience for this show.
[00:35:37] Yeah.
[00:35:37] I don't think so.
[00:35:38] You know, I don't think we were for Acolyte either.
[00:35:42] I like, I like the way that, that Wim's character is supposed to be us from our childhood.
[00:35:51] Like, the fact that he lives on a planet that is essentially managed by high performance security droids.
[00:35:59] But he has the least poseable action figures to play with.
[00:36:05] But he's got this hologram-like iPad that he can read, you know, stories and picture books about the Jedi.
[00:36:13] Those have all been translated on the Internet as well.
[00:36:15] I'm sure.
[00:36:17] But, you know.
[00:36:18] I found them.
[00:36:19] I mean, just.
[00:36:19] What did they say?
[00:36:20] Y'all ain't got the one goddamn TikTok.
[00:36:23] And you're not going to have TikTok for much longer.
[00:36:26] Trump is taking TikTok.
[00:36:29] These are my TikToks now.
[00:36:31] All your TikTok belong to us.
[00:36:34] Yeah, there was.
[00:36:35] I have a, it's.
[00:36:37] I think there's a weird, like, inconsistency where, like, sometimes you meet Rey and she doesn't know if the Empire and Luke Skywalker and the Jedi is real or if that's a legend she heard one time.
[00:36:48] Like, but then you go to this planet and they've got comic books and merchandise from Jedi's.
[00:36:54] Even though this planet is supposed to be cut off from everything.
[00:36:57] And to your point, it's because they don't have news in this galaxy.
[00:37:01] Yeah.
[00:37:01] Yeah.
[00:37:02] There is no.
[00:37:03] They're not talking to each other.
[00:37:05] Yeah.
[00:37:06] There's no, like, there's no.
[00:37:08] I heard on the on the wire.
[00:37:10] You know, it's not so much a legend as the thing that happened 10 years ago.
[00:37:14] Yeah.
[00:37:15] That's not that long.
[00:37:16] Yeah.
[00:37:17] You right.
[00:37:18] So it's weird to me.
[00:37:20] So where do you where do you think the show is going?
[00:37:24] And is this do we know if this is supposed to be an ongoing series or is this just a one off?
[00:37:29] I don't know that.
[00:37:29] Yeah.
[00:37:30] I was fixing to look to see how many episodes are going to be total because I don't.
[00:37:34] I think the show is going to end with one cameo.
[00:37:41] Probably that pirate.
[00:37:43] You keep talking about condo.
[00:37:59] Condo.
[00:37:59] Them making one little thing that'll tie in somehow to Ahsoka and whatever else we're doing.
[00:38:08] Do you think that Crimson Jack, whatever Jude Law's character's name is, Dumbledore?
[00:38:14] Mm-hmm.
[00:38:15] Jeff.
[00:38:15] Jeff.
[00:38:16] Do you think that he's force sensitive?
[00:38:19] I am curious about that.
[00:38:21] I'm curious about it.
[00:38:22] Because they said something like, how do you do that?
[00:38:23] And he said, practice.
[00:38:25] So I don't know how long he's been in jail, but maybe he's in jail and he's like, anybody can be force sensitive.
[00:38:31] Maybe they're bringing that theme back in a little bit.
[00:38:33] And he's like, I'm just going to sit here in jail and do this till I move a rock.
[00:38:37] So he's old enough to be.
[00:38:39] Oh, from before?
[00:38:40] Uh-huh.
[00:38:41] I'm not saying he's a Padawan, but like he could have been like.
[00:38:45] But everyone else on the show has been a Padawan.
[00:38:48] Everyone else in the universe turns out was a Padawan once.
[00:38:51] Right.
[00:38:51] But like he could have been.
[00:38:53] But I'm saying like, what if he was not a Padawan, but like he was a consideration, but he didn't pass the test.
[00:38:58] Yeah.
[00:38:59] Because he's a, you know, a pathological liar.
[00:39:02] A pirate's life for me.
[00:39:03] He's a chosen pirate.
[00:39:03] It'd be funny if the kids like at the end are like, I'm not going to go fucking back to live on Ad Adden.
[00:39:08] Uh-huh.
[00:39:09] I'm going to go be a pirate.
[00:39:10] Do you think there's a treasure on Ad Adden?
[00:39:13] Yes.
[00:39:14] I do think that because of how much they've made such a point to show that pile of credits that Wim has got in his pocket.
[00:39:23] And to contrast that with the opening sequence in the first episode where when the pirates storm that bulk freighter and they get into that and there's just a single credit.
[00:39:33] I think, I think it's whatever, whatever substance those credits are made from.
[00:39:39] I think it's coming from a planet like Ad Adden.
[00:39:42] That's an old smart brain over here.
[00:39:47] This shit just goes completely.
[00:39:49] I could be wrong.
[00:39:51] I could be wrong.
[00:39:51] I'm just fucking making it up.
[00:39:53] I have the comprehension skills of a six-year-old.
[00:40:01] She show is.
[00:40:03] I don't know.
[00:40:03] We're halfway through.
[00:40:05] It's better now than it was when it started.
[00:40:08] I'm going to keep watching.
[00:40:09] Are you going to watch episode five on Tuesday when it comes out?
[00:40:13] Are you going to be like, eh, I'll get to it.
[00:40:16] I might wait and do it all.
[00:40:17] I liked watching them all in one afternoon.
[00:40:19] So you're going to wait until all four have dropped.
[00:40:22] I did enjoy watching them all back to back to back to back.
[00:40:25] But I will have to watch episode five on Tuesday.
[00:40:28] All right.
[00:40:29] Well.
[00:40:30] Which is when y'all will hear this.
[00:40:33] If there's stuff that is so good that you guys have to talk about it, then I'll watch it.
[00:40:39] If you just can't contain yourselves because it's so amazing, something happens.
[00:40:43] Then I'll watch it.
[00:40:44] But if you're like, eh, then I'll hold on.
